2024 Team Defense & Defense by Committee Thread (2 Viewers)

Guess I'm looking at this for the quarterfinals:
  1. Saints v ATL
  2. Patriots at LV
  3. Jets v DET
  4. Lions at NYJ
Should I just roll with my stud DST or go with the better matchup?

Now with Wilson starting for the JETS, how about the Lions this week? Wilson should be good for at least a couple TOs and he's gotta be rusty. Then again, we were saying the same thing about Mayfield last week.

Also pondering the Packers...

All of these are good starts. Tough decision You can spend a long time agonizing over which one is best. I would tend to look at the Saints as having the best floor and the winner of the Jets/Lions game as having the best ceiling.

Love the Saints matchup this week at home against a team starting a rookie QB in his first start.

Like the Lions too playing against Zach Wilson, especially if you get FF points for total yardage and points against.

I was thinking the same thing about DET. But some points against them: Wilson has only thrown INTs in two games (plus a fumble in another). He will take a sack but the lions are below average in sacks. And the Jets might be able to get away with running a lot against a rush defense giving up 5 ypc.

Season long statistics might not be the best barometer for measuring the effectiveness of Detroit’s run defense.
  • WK 9 - Dillon & Jones combined for 20-59, long of 9
  • WK 11 - Saquon Barkley 15-22 long of 4
  • WK14 - Cook & Mattison 17-22 long of 5
They’re not a great run defense but Buggs & McNeil do a nice job clogging the middle. When their focus is on taking away the run game they’re pretty decent at it.

To be sure they have difficulty with mobile quarterbacks. Not just guys like Fields, Daniel Jones & Josh Allen; Geno Smith must have run 9 simple bootleg plays and it worked every time. Aaron Rodgers had 40 of his 67 yards in one game. Trevor was 4-32. It’s a problem.

Zach could def find success running RPOs. But I’m not sure that Bam is the style runner who will give them trouble.

The Lions are indeed 22nd in sacks (26.) But besides Hutchinson (7.0 sacks), pay attention when fellow rookie James Houston (#59) comes in. He’s a specialist and his nickname is The Problem. He has a very unconventional style with tremendous bend. In 3 games since coming up from the practice squad, the 6th rounder has 4 sacks in only 25 snaps.

I like the Lions as a streamer either this week or next week at Carolina. They are 10th in turnovers (17) and have ranked as a Top 10 defense for FF 4 of the last 6 weeks. The two weeks outside the Top 10 were 16th v JAX and 21st v BUF.

Looking ahead to Week 16 (better to be prepared), which of these D/ST do you guys trust most?

TEN v. HOU

CIN @ NE

LAR v. DEN

JAX @ NYJ

DET @ CAR

N.O. @ CLE

LAC @ IND

I’ll tell you on Tuesday

:p

I’m holding 3 of those, and have my eye on a few others. I *think* I know which way I’m going in the semis ad finals should I advance, but I’m only planning one week ahead - and my mind def will shift based on what I see in the next 3 days.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Chase Young (knee) is not expected to play in Week 15 against the Giants.

Young is listed as questionable, but Commanders coach Ron Rivera didn't sound optimistic when talking about Young suiting up earlier in the week. With just three games left on the schedule, it's unclear if Young will play in 2022 at all. He is still recovering from a torn ACL and has yet to see the field this year.

Commanders’ young secondary, full of disrupters, has become a strength

Jacksonville D not highly rated this week despite facing Jets on a short week. Jets O looked less than stable putting up only 17 vs. an average Lion D.

I have been holding onto Dallas DST for some reason even after they laid an egg against Houston. Was planning on using Chiefs DST vs Seattle week 16, but the Jalen Hurts news has me rethinking that.

Does Gardner Minshew starting for Philly improve the Dallas DST projections next week?
In my league’s format they are the 2nd highest scoring defense. I was also considering grabbing another defense since 3 out of their last 4 have been duds, but I’ll probably just roll with them vs Minshew

Okay looking at possible choices on the waiver wire here are some thoughts.

TB at Arizona - If McCoy can't get cleared from concussion protocol can ARI even score on TB? McSorley will be running for his life. Actually ARI seems to get sacks and Brady has been turning it over lately but still having a hard time mentally picking a defense against him.
Den at LAR - Pick either side. Denver can't score more than 17 a game, gives up a lot of sacks, and Donald may be back as well. Rams OL seems to be in shambles. See turnovers for both sides.
NO at CLE - With the expected weather and what CLE has been doing lately can they bottle up the Saints, get some turnovers, as well as keep the score low?

Right now I have a waiver claim in on TEN against HOU. Lots to play for here. Seems to be "the hot DEF pickup" of the week.

With the improved play, weather forecast, playing an indoor team and Dalton’s history I am surprised the Browns D is not more talked about this week.
I grabbed them although I did have Tenn over them but someone outbid me for them. I get all the positives for CLE and they are great ones however my one concern in weather like that is wont both teams just run the hell out of the ball? Yeah itll be a low scoring game but theres no upside for sacks/ints.

sort of, but it makes a safer floor because points allowed will be so low.

The weather forecast in CLE this Sat calls for single-digit temps and MORE IMPORTANTLY minimum 25 mph winds. If the Browns or Saints are available, snag 'em and don't look back!

I was looking to replace Dal against Phi this week, but with Jalen out(?) I may stick with them. TEN is still on the WW though.

Anyone else gambling against Minshew?

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said Chase Young (knee) is off the injury report and will play on Saturday against the 49ers.

At last, the saga surrounding Young and his long-awaited return to the field appear to be drawing to a close. After practicing with the team for nearly a month, Young's return continued to be pushed back despite reports that he was nearing a return well before Week 16. Young will reportedly be a full go in Saturday's game against the 49ers, although it wouldn't be surprising if the team eased him in and played him only on situational downs. Nevertheless, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 NFL draft is back and ready to help Washington in its push for a playoff berth.
