2024 Team Defense & Defense by Committee Thread (1 Viewer)

I'm pivoting away from TEN and picking up CLE. Way too many question marks with all of the inuries on both sides of the ball and HOU's recent fiestiness.

What To Watch For: Buccaneers vs Cardinals

Excerpt:

Trace McSorley vs Buccaneers’ Defense

The Cardinals are down to their third string quarterback, Trace McSorley. This should be an obvious advantage for the Bucs, despite having lost to a third string quarterback just two weeks ago. But this is a very different situation.

Arizona is a much less functional team than we saw with San Francisco (and third string quarterback Brock Purdy). This offense will ask more of its quarterback and the Cardinals have fewer weapons to take pressure off. This has the makings of a great day for the Bucs defense and I expect them to live up to that.

Todd Bowles will likely put pressure on McSorley, forcing him to get the ball out quick or take sacks. This will likely be the latter considering the team that is around him. It’s also very likely that this leads to turnovers as well.

This is a game where the Buccaneers defense should shine and I absolutely expect them to do so.

Seriously, this Tannehill situation is really throwing a wrench into things, leaving me to look to pivot away like most others

I had picked up DEN vs LAR as an extra hedge, though now also considering NO, CLE and JAX.

I think the risk of Willis turnovers and short fields for Houston was too much for me. He’s not good.

I'm staying the course on Tenn. I picked them up weeks ago for this matchup. Holding the line, but I could pivot to Bengals.

Tenn is still collectively rated much higher across the industry though.

Also picked up TEN as a speculative add for this week. I would have been tempted to stay with my ace DST and roll out the Cowboys against Hurts and hope for a big play. With Minshew in, this is now looking like a no-brainer. However, I am surprised by how many rankings still have the Titans as a better play than Dallas.

The industry rankings let me down with Jacksonville. Up there, but a distant third to both Tennessee and Dallas. I considered them, but should have given them a lot more thought. I suppose it depends on how your league point system rewards big plays vs. points and yardage allowed. However, that would have been a safe floor matchup that turned out great in my league's points column.

I rostered TEN everywhere and dropped them in lieu of Jags/Browns in my 4 remaining leagues. Wish I went 3/4 but I split it 2/2 to hedge a bit lol

Say........Bobby Layne.............are we gonna get your leagues defense rankings thru week 16 so we can use them for our week 17 Championship??

Denver looks like trash today, so much to them being a slam dunk vs LAR. Trending towards getting negative points from them and would be happy with a zero.

sure….provably forgot last week, lost my quarterfinal so I was in a FF morass lol

will post Tuesday

Thank you my friend. Look forward to it! (and I won't be starting the Denver defense in week 17!)(

I’m struggling to decide between KC (Denver) and NYG (Indy). I think Denver might try to throw it more than Indy, which could lead to more sacks or turnovers, am I right in thinking this?

The masses will tell you to start KC. The only worry is will DEN respond to the coaching change and will it be addition by subtraction. That being said I would roll w/ KC personally.

Thanks, yes I had the same thought that Denver might improve by subtraction. And also some concern that the Giants D isn’t that strong, regardless of who they play this week.

I'm going Giants D in one league and KC d in another. I have Gianta D in both ...held them for this week intentionally. I think KC at home, aging high stakes...is just a recipe for mayhem against Denver ...sitting Dallas for the KC play.

Top 8 from Subvert a Down:
  1. Cowboys 11.1
  2. 49ers 9.5
  3. Chiefs 9.2
  4. Buccaneers 8.5
  5. Ravens 8.4
  6. Giants 7.6
  7. Eagles 7.5
  8. Commanders 7.1
ECR (expert consensus rankings of > 100 X spurts)

1San Francisco 49ers (SF)at LVA+7.7
2Dallas Cowboys (DAL)at TENA+7.6
3Kansas City Chiefs (KC)vs. DENA7.3
4Philadelphia Eagles (PHI)vs. NOB+7.3
5Baltimore Ravens (BAL)vs. PITA-7.3
6New York Giants (NYG)vs. INDB7.1
7Los Angeles Chargers (LAC)vs. LARB6.9
8New England Patriots (NE)vs. MIAB6.9

Think the former is ESPN standard scoring, no clue the basis of the scoring projections for the latter.

IME the ECR is a good general guide to detect outliers in your own projections, but it's a losing strategy when relied upon too much. It's much more about conformity amongst peers (for the rankers) than actual useful insight that will help FF managers.

Be your own dog.

Have the Giants in one league (just turnovers, sacks, TDs count) and have to choose between Giants or Chargers in another (points against and yards added). In the first league my opponent is playing the Chargers against me. Glad the Giants have everything to play for. If Foles repeats what he did last week its a no brainer in the second league. Wish we had one or two more games on Baker with the Rams to evaluate how they might do. They definitely are playing much better and if they decide to just run on the Chargers there may not be a big chance for sacks, turnovers.

Somewhat similar to OC above, Giants & Chargers are available, but currently have Jags D. Should I hold or jump ship?
Rams will prob play conservative ball and try to run it; I think the Eagles D is in a smash spot at home against the Saints. Dalton is a turnover machine on the road

Went TB last week, Dropped TB for JAX. Just dropped JAX for LAC. Baker still a turnover machine.
Have the jags right now, Houston has allowed some big numbers to opposing defenses like Cleveland a few weeks back
Kyle Allen was the QB at that time for Houston. He seemed to be way worse than the current one such that he only lasted two weeks as starter.

Jags defense is good though. Considered them but went with Giants.

Ravens are also on the waiver wire in my league, someone released them, short bench league

Atlanta is available but I see that more like 30-20 even with a no name QB for Arizona, maybe I'm off on that

I just dropped LAC for BAL and playing ATL in one DFS lineup.
The Ravens are not sexy but they have scored around 8-9-10 and even a 14 in the last 3-4 weeks, that's pretty solid.
Yeah it would be nice to roll Jax out there and crush the Texans who should be trying to get that No 1 pick, only .5 game lead Tanking with 2 weeks left
Would be awful if Houston had this bad of a run and then find themselves at No 2 or No 3 and unable to get the QB they truly covet.

That said, JAX knows no matter the outcome, all roads lead to Tennessee Showdown next week.
JAX can lose this game and it doesn't matter, that's not a good situation for a road defense.
Feels like the Ravens have a lot riding today and won't know about Cinci before their MNF game, that should be big motivation vs the Steelers today
