Memphis has decided to suspend Ja for a game, conduct detrimental to the team
After leading by 14 at the half, Ja stopped going to the rim and went 0-6 from three (3-14 overall), like he was trying to show up a coach or someone else who said something at halftime. Like quiet quitting loudly I guess.
Shams reported that 1st year head coach Iisalo challenged Morant's leadership and effort after the game, leading to Morant's "ask the coaching staff" response after being asked what went wrong afterwards. This after getting Iisalo's predecessor fired last year.
Remember how he got suspended for the gun stuff and then responded to his 1 week suspension (or whatever it was) by doing it
again? That's when he was on MVP ballots and Memphis was one of the best young teams in the League. That isn't the case any longer, largely due to his own actions, which makes this latest disgruntlement tantrum even more egregious, and frankly, bizarre. It reminds me of Mike Wallace and the Steelers. If I'm a good or rebuilding team I want nothing to do with this guy. Kings and Pelicans, sure, knock yourself out.
I'm a Warriors fan but had a ton of respect for him and the exciting, ****-talking Grizzlies back in 2022-23. All you can do is shake your head. I can't imagine what it must be like for Grizzlies fans and employees. I'm sure he'll still have a large contingent of fans and supporters in Memphis, which makes me wonder what, exactly, they're rooting for.
