Oregon is being very selective right now and only giving great offers to positions of need. Time will tell if this strategy pays off.

With the recent settlement, I don’t see any way a salary cap that covers NIL is put into place in the next six months, much less one that would apply retroactively to already signed deals. Where are you hearing this? I agree that USC will ultimately drop to somewhere around the 4th to 5th ranked class. But that would be a massive improvement over the past several years, and noteworthy given their lackluster 2024 season.

I am hearing it directly from someone who talked with someone in the inner circle recently. He was told Oregon is losing some recruiting battles right now because they are operating on the assumption there will be a salary cap put in place by September. If that doesn't happen, they will circle back with recruits and offer bags to get them to flip. If salary cap happens then programs like USC that are spending huge amounts of money will be over the cap and they can come in and take players. Take it FWIW.

I have been a ND fan since following football. Never has there been this sense of mo. Freeman is exciting as a coach... and coming off the run last season with the recruiting windfall. It just really all feels like what I have been waiting for since '88 which is around when I started somewhat following.

Yea... enthusiastic.... guilty as charged. Sentence me with the full weight of the book!

USC's class is great... they will be back. Easy pitch to get those boys in campus and see the USC bunny eye candy there. I loath USC since growing up a ND fan in So Cal but that school is just full of drop dead gorgeous women. Throw a rock and hit 10 of them before it hits the ground. Being in LA with the beaches nearby and all that... I never had to guess why USC could pull top talent from recruiting consistently.

Yeah the House v NCAA settlement that was just approved was the result of litigation that was filed over 5 years ago. That goes into effect on July 1. They’ve been negotiating that settlement for years, the court approval process was extremely difficult, at least one appeal has already been filed and there will likely be multiple related lawsuits filed approx July 2. The new ~$20m ‘cap’ is extremely soft. It’s likely subject to Title IX and doesn’t apply to private booster funds. It’s just not remotely possible for me to imagine an entirely new salary cap structure to be put in place this Fall, much less one that will apply retroactively and cause programs to cut current players lose.

Also, schools have naturally been preparing for this for a long time. Among other planning tactics, many schools have reportedly been front-loading NIL deals and structuring their rosters in anticipation of the ‘cap’ going into effect this fall.

I just don't think they were ever going to get the Lyons' kid. With his faith and the way BYU is spending money, he wasn't going anywhere else, IMHO.

And as pointed out in here, with all things being equal now financially, why would a kid go to Eugene Oregon over SoCal or Miami or Austin? I say that as a person who *LOVES* the state of Oregon and Eugene in particular. But I'm into trees and rivers and mountains and green scenery all year long. Not too many 17 year old athletes who can fly on a field are wired like that.

And for sure, having just spent a full day on campus for graduation, there's no shortage of pretty lasses at UO; but it ain't USC or UT or UM or anything the SEC schools have going for them. Just volume alone is a scale-tipper. Funny how the areas that see the most sunshine have the prettiest coeds.....

Recent recruiting chain of events signals massive Notre Dame victory on the horizon, and sooner than originally expected​

Notre Dame and head coach Marcus Freeman have been riding a strong wave of recruiting momentum recently, and it appears that isn’t stopping anytime soon. With wide receivers Kaydon Finley and Devin Fitzgerald set to make their commitments on July 4th and 5th respectively, the Fighting Irish are in a very good spot heading down the stretch.

In a somewhat expected move, 2026 Red Oak (Texas) wide receiver Brayden Robinson has moved up his commitment. Originally set to make his decision on July 20th, the Texas star will now do so on July 6th instead. That makes it three straight days where Notre Dame could be getting some very good news in wide receiver recruiting.

There have been some ups, but a lot more downs so far in the career of wide receivers coach Mike Brown in South Bend. If he is able to close on those three in that stretch, a lot of the heat will begin to dissipate.

In the case of Robinson, the commitment date moving up is a very good sign. It’s most likely not a coincidence that it is in coordination with Finley and Fitzgerald, and it does feel like a tactical decision. With the Fighting Irish being in a good spot for the Red Oak superstar, the quicker the decision is finalized, the better,

Robinson will be choosing between Notre Dame, Miami, and Arizona on the 6th, but everyone knows that this has been a battle between the Fighting Irish and the Hurricanes for some time now.

On the Miami side, they have been making some big news in terms of wide receiver recruiting recently. That includes flipping Mission Viejo (Calif.) High School pass catcher Vance Stafford, and receiving a commitment from Cornelius (N.C.) Hough standout Tyran Evans this week as well. Those are two big dominoes to fall for the program.

As their class begins to fill up, that means that there are less spots to work with as well. While Miami would take a commitment from Robinson, things have begun to look less and less likely over the last two weeks. Heading into this Robinson decision, Notre Dame is now viewed as the team to beat, and by a healthy margin.

Robinson is coming off of an incredible junior campaign for Red Oak, in which he led the team with 79 receptions for 1,408 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Robinson was also a dynamic playmaker as a punt and kick returner as a junior for the team.

Despite being a smaller wide receiver at just 5-8 and 160 pounds, Robinson has been pursued early and often by a long list of fantastic football programs due to his talents to make big plays. The Texas product holds offers from the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Penn State among many, many others.

247Sports has Robinson rated as a four-star and the No. 41 wide receiver in the 2026 recruiting class currently. Their platform also has him pegged as the No. 37 overall player in the state of Texas, an area that has a long history of developing top talent and one that Notre Dame is tapping into more regularly under this current regime.

Robinson is ranked similarly on the 247Sports Composite ranking, sitting as the No. 340 overall player on that ranking. Don’t let the size or inconsistent rankings fool you, Robinson is lightning in a bottle.

Tennessee Vols commit makes NIL claim that proves the current state of college football recruiting is unhinged​

2026 four-star tight end Carson Sneed, a Tennessee Vols commit since last August, made an NIL claim this week that proves that the current state of college football recruiting is completely unhinged.

Sneed, who is believed to be considering a flip to the Florida Gators, told On3 that a college football program made a wild NIL offer to him when he was still just a high school freshman.

“There was one school that, going into my freshman year, [said] they were going to pay me more than any of the tight ends they got right now, even their starters,” said Sneed to On3. “That was probably the wildest one I’ve heard so far...As a 17-year-old, bro, I ain’t seen that much money in my life. It was crazy.”

Sneed didn't name the school, so it's unclear if it was a Power-4 program. But either way, that's an insane offer to make to a kid that doesn't even have a driver's license yet. Sneed, who is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 14 tight end in the nation, obviously has the potential and talent to be a great player. But he (like every recruit) also still has quite a bit of developing to do to get to that point.

This offer to Sneed -- and I'm sure there are many, many more just like it -- shows how desperate some programs are to buy elite talent in the current era of college football.

Great Bend (Kan.) High tight end Ian Premer has announced his commitment to Notre Dame football, giving the Irish a major boost in their 2026 class.

The three schools to watch for the 6-5, 225-pounder have been Iowa State, Kansas State and Notre Dame in recent weeks, and multiple writers who cover the Wildcats for On3 even logged predictions earlier on Thursday for the elite talent to pick KSU with a commitment expected to come soon.

Sources tell Blue & Gold that after time to reflect over his choices, Premer got on a FaceTime call with the Notre Dame staff earlier today to inform them of his decision. It’s safe to say that the Fighting Irish are over the moon with this monumental development.

Premer ranks as On3’s No. 24 overall player and No. 3 tight end in America, plus the No. 1 prospect from the state of Kansas.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — Premer is the No. 42 player and No. 4 tight end nationally.

Premer becomes Notre Dame’s 22nd commitment in its 2026 recruiting class and second tight end commit, joining Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic’s Preston Fryzel.

Premer is the Irish’s second-highest ranked commit of the class, and Notre Dame now has a whopping six top-100 overall pledges — all per On3.

He’s Notre Dame’s highest-ranked tight end commitment according to the On3 Industry Ranking since Michael Mayer in the 2020 class. Mayer was the No. 34 overall player and No. 3 tight end in America.

Premer hauled in 30 passes for 541 yards with 8 touchdowns as a junior in 2024, plus 27 carries for 260 yards with 2 scores.

The Irish offered a few tight end prospects last year, but things didn’t really get rolling until after the Irish concluded the 2024-25 season.

Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and tight ends assistant Harris Bivin offered a few tight end prospects, including Premer on Feb. 1. Premer’s first trip to South Bend took place on March 21.

“I had a really good visit,” Premer told Blue & Gold‘s Kyle Kelly after the trip. “Obviously, the campus is impressive. I found a lot of the old buildings cool and interesting. You don’t see those at a lot of places. They’re also building the new facility now, which will be really cool to see when it’s finished.

“I definitely felt comfortable. A lot of the guys had more of a Midwest feel. They were all really nice and relatable.”

Denbrock and Bivin both saw Premer during the spring evaluation period and were crucial in Premer picking the Irish. Denbrock is Notre Dame’s tight ends coach on paper, but Bivin does most of the day-to-day recruiting contact at the position.

As crazy as this title sounds, I am actually shocked that the SEC and B10 haven't decided that the top 8 from each conference will play each other in a postseason tournament. I know the B10 seemed to be after an alliance, and the SEC went another direction and it all went up in flames. I haven't read as much as I should have to understand what went on there. But in time, they are gonna cut out all the other teams out. There is way more money in a B10/SEC alliance than in their current CFP deal.

I have read a couple of write ups on him and seems like a good kid for sure. Pretty much everything I have read is he is elite in every way except lacking ideal size. I will take that any day.

I am feeling real good about this. It looks like that is lined up with some cordination. One of them... I think Robinson, moved his original commitment date up by about a month.... I am feeling like that is not a coincidence. Love the idea of another NFL superstar kid coming to ND (Devin is Larry's son).

Yep, Ducks are coming on strong. As a bonus, you’re not going to have to hear about USC recruiting much anymore (in this thread and elsewhere). They just landed their last major target, a four/five star wide receiver named Boobie Feaster (easily one of the better sports names). So with 31 commits, my guess is that they stand down for now until the fall. When all the other schools catch up (and a number will) I’m hoping that USC still ends up with a top 5 class. That would be a massive improvement over the last few classes and would be a major step toward building a playoff contender in future years.

Finley, the 6’0” 200 lbs pass catcher out of Aledo, Texas recently visited campus in June. The Irish beat out Texas, UCLA, Texas A&M, and Arizona State.

The Irish look to stay hot with several targets set to make their college decision in the next coming days.

Yeah lol. Stanford didn't have trouble getting high priority football recruits through admissions. Neither did Duke basketball. Notre Dame football for sure doesn't either.

Yeah lol. Stanford didn't have trouble getting high priority football recruits through admissions. Neither did Duke basketball. Notre Dame football for sure doesn't either.

I didn't mention those schools did I? Getting into Texas, Texas A&M and Ohio St is cake walk compared to ND and unlike some schools, ND doesn't lower it's standards for athletes, no exceptions.

Kelly ran off to LSU because he didn't think he could win a championship at ND because of that.
