2025 Detroit Lions: 1-1 Lion crush Da Bears. Still seats available on the Bandwagon. (159 Viewers)

Is this correct? If Lions win tonight a tie vs Vikings would give us the one seed due to first tiebreaker of head to head victory? Or is Philly still in the mix?

Straight Flush>Full House>Flush>Straight

If DET beats the 49ers
  • MIN 14-2
  • DET 14-2
  • PHI 13-3
14-3 = .824

14-2-1 = .853

(14/17 v 14.5/17)

So as far as the tie goes, the answer is yes, so tonight's game is NOT meanlessness. Win tonight and a win OR tie vs. Minnesota gives the Lions the #1 seed.

The #Vikings vs. #Lions game in Week 18 has been flexed to Sunday Night Football, with the NFC’s No. 1 seed on the line to cap the 2024 season.

My daughter has season tickets and she is taking me for a Christmas present. Said she had to take me to this one as her husband wants to go if there are home playoff games. Imagine that.

I hate waiting all day for the game and getting home after midnight.

Love the 430 starts.

Yeah if being on national tv is that big a deal to some, the 4:30 starts usually qualify without being a pain to those who have to get up the next morning.
I live in Miami and a buddy has season tickets to the Dolphins. Every year I get to pick one game and go with him. I always aim for a 1:00 start, because I think it’s absolutely perfect timing: Get to the park by noon, get a burger and beer, finish up and go to our seats, stay for the full game and then be home by 5-5:30.

Under no circumstances would I ever choose a night game as my one to go to. You get rush hour traffic on the way in (if it’s Thu/Mon), if the game gets out of hand you have to start doing the calculation of when it’s safe to leave, and either way you likely end up getting home after midnight

Plus it is dark by 530 now so the tailgating is not nearly the same fun.

Central time it works out perfect

Tailgate & kickoff in daylight, gets dark at halftime

After this season, the NFL needs to knock being a divisional winner as the top tie-break and not a guarentee of a top 4 seed.

After this season, the NFL needs to knock being a divisional winner as the top tie-break and not a guarentee of a top 4 seed.

Division winner should only be assured a spot in the playoffs. After the last game reseed according to records. The Viking or Lions both deserve either a bye and or both deserve a home game. The way it is set up now a 3 loss team will have to play away against a 7 loss team.

Seems like only the Lions get in these types of jams with rules.

Vikings vs Lions next week for the division and one seed.

As it should be.

A 14-3 team is going to be on the road with no bye. While a possible 7 loss team will be at home.

Unless Lions can generate some pressure Minny is going to be a tough out.

Yeah what's this? College?
If the Bears make the playoffs because they played 6 games vs 13 win teams, then yes.

  • team's winning percentage (25%)
  • opponents' winning percentage (50%)
  • the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents (25%).

  • The opponents' winning percentage and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents both comprise the strength of schedule (SOS).
  • Thus, the SOS accounts for 75% of the calculation
  • SOS should be 2/3 its opponents' winning percentage and 1/3 its opponents' opponents' winning percentages.
We’ll input all that into the MultiVac and see what it recommends.

I’m at a point where I agree with this now. Division winners and wild cards make the field but the w-l records should determine seeding.

Agreed, with a caveat that if they have the same record a division winner would have the first tie-breaker.

if the 13-2 non div winner is that good, they should have no issue on the road vs a crappy div winner.

Keep the system as it is, winning the div should get you a home game.

I'd be fine if they kept everything as is but gave the team with the better record a home game rather than the division winner. It would be kind of ridiculous for a 10-7 Atlanta team to host a 14-3 Detroit/Minnesota

What I don’t like about the system is that the NFC North runner-up will also be the 5th seed when they reseed for the 2nd round. Pretty good chance the Lions and Vikings will have the two best remaining records in the NFC and have to play each other again.

If I remember correctly, when the Cardinals made their superbowl run they benefited from this scenario. The Eagles had a better record but were a wildcard team, so the cards with their crappy record got to host the NFC championship game because the Cards won the division.

I was at that game. And the subsequent Super Bowl…

Lions are now 10-2 in primetime games under Head Coach Dan Campbell.

K Jake Bates has established the new single-season franchise record for points scored, passing Jason Hanson's previous record of 134 points in 2012.

Lions have set a new franchise record for the most first downs in a season, passing the previous record of 382 in 2012.

Lions DB Brian Branch is the NFL’s third DB since at least 1999 to record 100+ tackles, 15+ PDs and 5+ TFLs in a single season, joining:
  • CB Rodne Barber (2006)
  • S Rodney Harrison (2000)

Week 16 was Jared Goff's 11th game this season and 7th road game to record a completion percentage of at least 70%.

QBs in NFL history to produce eight games with a completion percentage of 75.0% in a season:
  1. Tom Brady (2007)
  2. Jared Goff (2024)

For the first time in franchise history, the Lions have gone undefeated (8-0) on the road during a season.

Gibbs joins Barry Sanders (1991) as the only players in Lions history to record 1,700 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns in a season.

Kerby Joseph is the first Lions safety to record 9+ INTs and a pick-six in a season since Jack Christiansen (1957).

He is also the first Lions player since Jimmy Allen (1981) to record 9+ INTs in a season.

First Lions DB to log at least 8 INTs and a pick-six in a single season since Lem Barney in 1967.

(ASIDE - pretty sure Lem had 10 INT and 3 TDs his rookie year but have to look it up)

17 interceptions in his first three seasons is the most by a Lions player since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger.

Most receiving touchdowns in a players first four seasons in franchise history:
  • 33 - Calvin Johnson Jr
  • 33 - Amon-Ra Julian Heru J. St. Brown

Teams to have three players with 12 TDs in a season:
  1. 1961 Oilers (B. Cannon, B. Groman, C. Hennigan)

Jared Goff has 3 TDs in four straight games, the first time that has happened in franchise history.

(what's Joe Burrow up to now? like 8?)

Since losing to Tampa Bay Week 2, the Lions have scored 20+ points in 14 straight games, a new franchise record.

Two teams have produced 35+ passing TDs and 25+ rushing TDs in the same season:
  • 2000 Rams
  • 2024 Lions

Sam LaPorta has become the first TE in NFL history to record 600+ yards and 6+ TDs in his first two seasons.

(love when they invent these hyper specific criteria stats as the first time in NFL history lol)

let's see....

Gronk
  1. 42-545-10
  2. 90-1327-17
LaPorta
  1. 86-889-10
  2. 53-663-7
yeah OK, PR Admin, good job on that one

:lmao:

Also, now tied with Mike Ditka for the second most TDs in the first two seasons for a TE.

Amon-Ra St Brown moved into 5th place in career receptions (424) in Week 17, surpassing Golden Tate (416)

Gibbs has produced 70+ scrimmage yards in every game this season.

His 16 games with 70+ scrimmage yards are a single-season franchise record.

Yep, Barry never did that.

The only players in Lions history to record at least five TD receptions of 40+ yards in a season:
  1. Cloyce Box (1952, 1950)
    Jameson Williams (2024)

The Lions are the first team in NFL history to have two RBs and two WRs all top 1,000 scrimmage yards in a single season.

Gibbs, Montgomery, St Brown, Williams

The only two teams to have four players with at least 1,000 scrimmage yards & 7 TDs in a season in NFL history:
  • 2004 Colts (E. James, M. Harrison, R. Wayne, B. Stokley)
  • 2024 Lions (D. Montgomery, J. Gibbs, A. St. Brown, J. Williams)

Well one reason the home playoff game is important is economics.

AEG found that attendee expenditures for the Detroit-Tampa Bay game will have a direct economic impact of $31,651,281 for the Lions, with an additional indirect impact of $20,573,333 for local business a combined total of over 52 million dollars for one home playoff game.

To create this analysis, AEG followed a rigorous methodology that considers both direct costs and the substitution effects that occur when consumers choose one event over another and included an allowance for the portion of the gate revenue captured by the NFL and other entities. The total includes both expenditures inside and outside the stadium by attendees, including the portion of people who travel to Detroit for the game and stay in hotels.

I thought his coming to Terrion’s defense and knocking the 9er into the stands set the tone that it was the Lions game to take. Total MCDC player saying eff the
possible penalty, no one touches my people sort of stuff.

Week 17 Recep

Injuries: None.

OK, a couple in game but Campbell said postgame neither one is anything to worry about

Injury updates

Rookie cornerback Terrion Arnold was on the bench to start the second half but rejoined the lineup later in the third quarter. He said it was related to a virus he battled earlier in the week that knocked him out of Thursday’s practice.
“Had to get my wind,” Arnold said. “I had the flu this week. My lungs were hurting.”

Also, at the end of the first half, Sewell left the field and missed the final play of the second quarter. It marked the first offensive snap he missed since Week 2.

“I don't like to miss a play, miss anything,” Sewell said. “Obviously, that was frustrating, but it was one of those things where it wasn't up to me.”

Sewell returned to action in the second half and coach Campbell didn’t express any concern about the issue lingering into next week.

none of those guys were impacfful on last NFL title team in 1957; Box retired after 1954, Walker after 1955, and Layne lost his starting job (by injury) to Tobin Rote

ETA

The Lions franchise have six retired numbers:
  • 7 Dutch Clark - named the AP player of the decade for the 1930s
  • 20 Lem Barney, , Billy Sims, Barry Sanders - two HoF players, two former Heisman winners, 20 Pro Bowls
  • 22 - Bobby Layne
  • 37 - Doak Walker
  • 56 - MLB Joe Schmidt
  • 85 - the late WR Chuck Hughes, who died at Tiger Stadium in 1971
I bought an old Lion jersey from the 60s at an estate sale years ago. #41. Who was it? No cheating!

Oooh, good one!

My (incorrect) guess was Nick Pietrosante but no he was 33

Brian Piccolo wore 41 for the Bears in the 1960's. Great movie haven't seen in many years though.

Kerby Joseph bought his mom a new construction home in a gated community this summer

mans about to get paid

IDK how many more of those big bags Brad got to hand out but somebody will pony up if Sheila won't

always happy to see good things happen to good people, big offseason for him just in terms of generational wealth
I thought his coming to Terrion’s defense and knocking the 9er into the stands set the tone that it was the Lions game to take. Total MCDC player saying eff the
possible penalty, no one touches my people sort of stuff.

Branch probably picked up another $10-20K in fines last night.

Anybody facing Detroit knows you can pickup 2-3 automatic first downs from DPI or UC. At some point you gotta stop being selfish & look at the bigger picture. Kerby would have had 3 picks last night without a no-reason-for-it DPI (I have to look at the play by play, that might have been a few plays before his first INT.)

Love the attitude but they have to be smarter and stop responding to instigators. Especially when it’s an hour or two after the first incident.

As you review things I’d be curious your take if Terrion enticed the roughing on the play. If so, I will agree you more discipline was necessary. If it was a more organic melee in what was rightly billed as a revenge game, I guess I am all good with it. Maybe Anzalone back with the green dot cleans this up a bit as they break defensive huddle.

I’m kind of ambivalent about Joseph sticking up for his teammate after Jennings blocked him into oblivion. I was thinking more about the BB retaliation like 50 plays later after the whistle.

"My family and friends are having a field day with it already. It's fun. I understand it." -- Jake Bates.

For what it's worth, Bates said he's fine, normal stretching.

"I can't believe the media did that to you. I can't believe they broadcasted that."

I saw one that said “Paint me like one of your French girls”. I laughed out loud at that one

The NFL regular season finale is shaping up to be a regular barn burner. Total is 57, biggest total of the year as well as the last game of the year.

Jamo and Branch both guilty of boneheaded penalties. Both of these guys seem so undisciplined compared to a guy like St. Brown.

meh.through the cloud of optimism about the Lions, is the same hangman's noose that is only visible to Mets fans. both team wreak of potential, of 'this is the year' and every year it's wtf just happened to us. used to be the Jets saga as well, only this year feels different, like maybe just maybe they've turned the corner a-rodgers be damned.
but the Lions are the Lions are the Lions. as emmit smith famously said, a tiger can't lose it's spots. and 'they got debacled' - Lions got spanked by the Ravens this was a turkey shoot game. or shoot the fish in the barrel game. i.e. too easy. they're competitive but in no way a contender unfortunately.

oooh

'twas so close

Ben Johnson has now slipped to #6 in the "next permanent head coach" betting, behind Rex Ryan, Mike Vrabel, Aaron Glenn, Ron Rivera, & Brian Flores. All between +300 and + 1000.
