2025 Detroit Lions: 1-1 Lion crush Da Bears. Still seats available on the Bandwagon. (160 Viewers)

This offense is by far the most painful to watch.

How can this ownership see what is happening in Miami and not put 2+2 together?

I decided to watch redzone today instead of the fox coverage of the Lions. You cant escape the misery. Caldwell will get one more year, its the Lions way.

So... For a lot of the season we try bubble screens/screens without much success. Then when they start blitzing every single play almost they are nowhere to be seen. What the #### is that ? Where is the in game adjustment to what is happening ?

Zimmer and his Coordinators made a wave of in game adjustments that swing it in their favour and we simply .... Did absolutely nothing.

Caldwell reminds me of The Walking Dead on the sideline. Does not say a word the whole game, shows zero emotion. Just stands there looking dumbfounded.

The Lions usually are way too patient but if they lose to the Chiefs in London before the bye week it will be time to fire Caldwell and let Austin take over the rest of the way as interim. Why they gave Caldwell a 4 year deal is beyond me when he never would have been hired by any other team as a HC. Then they need to fire Mayhew and team president Tom Lewand. Why Lewand is even involved in drafts is puzzling since his only football background is being a water boy at Michigan. Those 2 have been in Detroit forever. There are no players left on the Lion roster from the 2010-2011 drafts plus a number of players taken high who were busts. Mayhew has missed on way too many players. Now OG Tomlinson is looking like a complete bust who can`t block anyone.

Greetings Lions fans, I feel your pain. - Question: what has changed in personnel from last year to cause this drop from playoff contender to bottom 3 pick contender. Besides Suh, anyone else? Hard to believe almost the same team could play so differently.

You have to also look at how they won. Their suckage at coaching has caught up with them. The coaching staff subscribes to the herminator style of coaching. 'keep it close and try and win it in the 4th Q.' They lucked into the record last year . They barely beat some crappy teams with their 'win it in the 4th Q' strategy. They lucked into wins vs ATL, NO, CHI (once), MINN (once) and MIA last year with this strategy. All lucky come from behind wins. They lost to the Bills with that strategy. They lucked into their win this year with the same strategy. They have no killer instinct and no desire to put up points once they have a lead. They will take no chances. They would rather punt and play defense....which they currently are not very good at.

And yeah, Caldwell has no ability to make adjustments. Probably has no idea what that even means.

Defense played over it's head last year. Not only did they lose Suh but they let Farley. Slay aint as good as he or Lions fans thought he was.

Or to put it more quantitatively, their record in one-score games last year was completely unsustainable. I'm not saying Caldwell has been doing a great job by any means, but last year they had miracle comeback wins vs Atlanta and NO, this year they have KJ Wright's uncalled batted ball. That's mostly luck (or lack of it).

That said, losing Suh, Fairley and Levy hasn't helped much either. And the offensive line has been racked by injuries/played terribly.

Interesting. After last year, I had assumed they had one more year with Austin as DC, and then he'd be the next hot coaching prospect. But maybe the Lions' terrible season could dim his prospects a little (not that I think any of this is his fault). Anyway, I'd love to see him stay in-house, and I'd sure as hell sacrifice Caldwell to do it.

Anyone know why he didn't get hired last year? Was it just a matter of the music stopping and all the chairs being taken? I got the sense that he was the Falcons' second choice if Quinn had turned them down, but I also remember hearing some reports about how he wasn't totally ready (only one year as a coordinator).

They lost their top 3 interior defensive lineman (Suh, Nick Fairly, CJ Mosely), and their best defensive player, DeAndre Levy, hasn't played all year. The unit has been a real letdown the last few weeks, though they played well in stretches earlier in the year.

Offensively not much has changed personnel wise or philosophically. They weren't very good a year ago, and they're inept this year. A year ago they were 19th in yards, 22nd in scoring, 28th in rushing. This year they're 21st in yards, 29th in scoring, 32nd in rushing. Their 18 turnovers leads the league. They added Ameer Abdullah but don't trust him, preferring instead to feed Theo Riddick on passing downs. They have swapped out some pieces on the O-line and generally they have graded out pretty poorly, though Laken Tomlinson has been less of a turnstile the last couple games. Not having Pettigrew, their best blocking TE, has no doubt contributed, but I think most of the failure is due to the lack of creativity in game planning and the inability to adjust during games. The Lions go long, long stretches where they keep trying the same thing and expect different results.

Stafford from a FF perspective is fairly predictable. If it's an average or below average team and they're playing at home, start him. As Stafford goes, so goes Calvin. If they are on the road against a .500 or better team, stay far, far away. Tate is worthless, as are most of the backs (Riddick is a good PPR regardless of game flow), Ebron is emerging.

From a real football perspective, neither the coaches nor the QB have the ability to contend with pressure. By that I mean both the rush from opposing defenses and in meeting or exceeding expectations. They really have no concept of what it takes to succeed at the highest level. He rarely calls audibles and they seem to have no answer to account for blitzes pre-snap. When you hit him 10 or more times like yesterday, he's not a difficult QB to throw off his game. He is one tough son of a #####, he can really take a beating. Quite the opposite of his first few years when people thought he was made of glass. I think he has now started every game since the start of 2011. So while he isn't a winning QB, he is durable. Give him credit for that. If you give him time and he gets in a rhythm, he is very effective.

Matthew Stafford is a really nice man. He and his wife are generous and involved in the community. He seems like a good guy. But he is what he is. Pretty comfortable life and really doesn't have the desire or commitment to change.

I do feel bad for Stafford. I truly feel that now he will never succeed in Detroit as he seems to be getting beat down. As far as the running game goes Riddick has been the only bright spot. Abdullah shows flashed but he fumbles too much in college and now is fumbling even more in the NFL. Lions won`t even put him in in the second half if the game is close. The secondary is much weaker than we though. Last year the D-line was dominating and it made the secondary look much better than they actually are. Slay has been beaten on more big plays after 7 games than all last season and Mathis is about 75 years old in CB years. Swanson has not been able to replace Riola as the center and with Tomlinson right next hi him they have been getting destroyed.

It starts with Mayhew though. The Lions will be in line for a top 5 pick next year and we need a new GM to make those picks. That in turn will mean Caldwell will be gone as well. If fact the whole staff other than Austin should be let go.

The Lions play-calling on offense has been endlessly dissected and should be because it is THAT bad.

Sunday, though, we experienced the topper in a goal line situation late in the fourth quarter, with the game and essentially the season desperately on the line. The Lions gave the ball to their fifth-round draft pick rookie fullback (Michael Burton) and a practice squad guy (George Winn). It was the only carry of the game for both, who netted no yards.

“Two of our power backs, two of our brutes,” head coach Jim Caldwell said. "Calvin Johnson isn't the only guy on this team. I'm calling the shots and when we need to score a TD, I am going with Burton and Winn.......Burton and Winn."

Huh? Really?

Another gem: Caldwell said. "And defensively, we couldn't keep it close. A couple plays popped." HERMINATED!!!!!!

Yeah, Austin should be retained. The only way that is happening is if they fire Caldwell after we lose to a bad Chiefs team. Let him mold the team in his image. Focus on building up the defense and O-line in the draft. That would be a rational response of an organization committed to building a winner.

Bill Jr, Caldwell, Lewand & Mayhew all report to Martha. In other words, nobody will do the thing that needs to be done.

Well she is not going to fire her son but the other three need to go. I remember when my grandmother was 91 as Martha Ford is.. and she was sharp..but I have a hard time picturing her running a NFL Franchise.

The young lady only turned 90 last month.

;)

Will be a strange feeling for me next week, going down to London and almost hoping they lose on the off chance Martha loses her #### and cleans some house. What are the chances of this though ? About 0.448%.

Stafford is what he is, but is also a victim of the complete mediocrity around him. I still think he could be part of a successful team if the correct people were installed at the top and he had good coaches. Harbaugh is probably a slim chance but I would love to have a grumpy awkward ####er with a strong mentality like him come in and set about changing everything.

We will have a ton of picks next year - compensatory ones for Suh and Fairley at least which could equate to maybe an extra 3rd and 4th or a 4th and a 5th ? Spend the whole draft on O line, DT and CB ? Stop trying to give Stafford expensive 'weapons' and actually build a line that will give him more time, and can also allow the running game to flourish.

Having extra draft picks is all the more reason for Mayhew to be let go ASAP.

I don't feel bad for Stafford. I don't think he has has worked on his craft. Has he really improved over the years? I don't see it. His cap value exceeds his production. They said he was all pissed off at being pulled out of the game two games ago. Yet, do you ever hear him speak up and say anything as a "leader" of this team?

Apparently he is more upset at not playing then losing.

Beta dog in an alpha position.

Certainly not every great QB displayed in your face leadership. Bob Griese and Joe Montana were a couple guys who aren't classic alpha leaders but they had strong leadership all around them. Stafford has a 90 year old widow leading the organization and a befuddled HC. Not sure you could accurately identify who the team leaders are on either the offensive or defensive unit.

How long until the Harbaugh to the Lions rumors start?
I assume most UM/Lions fans would hate that. Harbaugh will almost certainly do really good things at Michigan. Could he fix the Lions? Who knows. It'd be a win/win for State fans though :)

I doubt Harbaugh leaves Michigan anytime soon. If he wanted to, the Colts job would be far more enticing.

Harbaugh will not be leaving Michigan anytime soon. And if he did he would not leave Michigan and drive from Ann Arbor to Detroit. Now Jim Harbaugh might be a candidate.

To some people in Michigan, this would be like owning both Boardwalk & Park Place.

Ian Rappawhatever tweeted Lombardi & the O-line coach will be fired three hours ago. Caldwell denied the rumor before practice.

The Free Press just reported Wasburn & Lombardi are gone.

Just who the #### is running Allen Park??

We definitely got the wrong Lombardi.
Did Jeremiah Washburn draft those lineman? What a chicken#### move. It's like firing the Assembly Plant manager for poor sales.

We have a Coach Cooter running the offense now.

You may fire when ready, fellas. Expecting some good ones.

Never said Harbaugh was gonna leave Michigan for the Lions just asked when the rumors are gonna start.. cause they will.

I like what Valenti on 97.1 was saying today. Fire everyone from Mayhew/Lewand to the guy changing the TP in the bathrooms. Change the colors and logo too. :lmao:

Super Bowl AC to Jim Bob Cooter...

only the Lions.... :lmao:

Caldwell still needs to go and it's only a matter of time. He can't save himself from his own suckage but hopefully this will get Calvin the 10-15 targets a game he needs to move the team down the field.

Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!

:lmao:

#Lions hired Jim Bob Cooter away from the #Broncos, Peyton Manning was very upset. He was a valued part of his preparation.

I'm reminded of his words when he joined the Lions. Did he not say something along the lines of ' this is a win now team, I'm aware of that and what the expectations from owner and GM are'

Perhaps he should also be reminded of them.

That must have been old, from when came over from Denver to Detroit after the 2013 season.

How did I not know about a guy with this name in the league!?

And no more Sunday Night Football games are scheduled to allow for a classic Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show Superlatives segment starring Mr. Cooter?! Can they still flex? Make it happen NBC!

There's an story from the off-season that might have foreshadowed this a bit:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2015/02/24/detroit-lions-jim-bob-cooter/23933691/&ved=0CB4QFjACahUKEwiH6Pjuh-HIAhUJSyYKHeUqBR4&usg=AFQjCNFfy6Dxcou_-yj0fkk81-YDv5kxPw&sig2=wFEcUovRTPmxCsyDDhWb0g

Maybe they had this in mind for a while, or at least as a back-up plan?
