2025 Detroit Lions: 1-1 Lion crush Da Bears. Still seats available on the Bandwagon. (153 Viewers)

This is the most meaningful regular season game in over 30 years in the NFL.

Playing for the #1 seed in the last game of the season between 2 teams in the same division both with 14 wins. Never happened before and might not happen again for a long time.
Closest I can think of is Seattle-SF five years ago. But IIRC SF was playing for the 1 seed, while Seattle was not. If they won they would have been 2 or 3 because of tiebreakers. In any event, they both had like 11 or 12 wins, not 14.

Still, the same dynamic where the loser would get the 5 seed. Seahawks won the wildcard game in Philly, then lost to GB in the divisional. Meanwhile SF went to the Super Bowl. I could see a similar dynamic this year where the 5 seed will be favorites against LA/TB but will have trouble winning in Philly

Seeing Atlanta having to struggle and game plan around a weak kicker like Paterson reminds me how grateful I am to have Bates kicking for us.

Lions DBs Terrion Arnold, Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch were all fined for unnecessary roughness in Monday's win vs. 49ers.

Arnold/Joseph fined for scuffle with Jauan Jennings (also fined).
  • Arnold - $11,817
  • Jennings - $11,817
  • Joseph - $7,505
Brian Branch was fined $10,128 for this hit on George Kittle.

BB leads the NFL in fines (7) this season, totaling $70,896.
Anyone watching SF-AZ? I’m thinking Jennings may be the common thread here

Jennings should have been fined $50k. They gove Jamo a $20k fine for spinning a football. Taking a guy 10 yards out of play and driving them into the ground and continuing to apply pressure is not part of football.

Starling Thomas V took his helmet off the play before (Jennings got 1st personal foul) and then Sean Murphy-Bunting (#fireupChips) got him kicked out on the very next play

+9 YD 2nd & 5 ARI 17
(6:57 - 2nd) P.Taylor left tackle to ARI 8 for 9 yards (J.Okwara; B.Baker). Penalty on SF-J.Jennings - Unnecessary Roughness - offsetting. Penalty on ARI-S.Thomas - Unnecessary Roughness - offsetting.

+6 YD 1st & Goal ARI 8
(6:34 - 2nd) J.Dobbs right end to ARI 2 for 6 yards (J.Thompson). Penalty on SF-J.Jennings - Disqualification - offsetting. Penalty on ARI-S.Murphy-Bunting - Disqualification - offsetting.

Congrats on your first 975 yard season Jajuan!

How many big games has Sam Darnold been in?
You really called it. That was ultimately the key. Would have been a totally different game if he hadn't consistently sailed those goal-to-go passes

the Lions brought good pressure so it's not like it was purely Sam choking

1/9 for 3 yards on Goal To Go pass attempts - think only 1 was a PBU, 1 he got hit as he was thrown, a lot of them he was under duress

I also think KOC got a psyched out going for 4th downs.....which he had only done 10 times coming in, went for it 3 times tonight

game was very tight for a long time, feels like he blinked first

should have just stayed true to himself and not worry about what MCDC is gonna do

two INT - both led to two of their three scores

one tipped ball at behind LOS

other one was basically an arm punt

Flores blitzed on 25 of 36 drop backs

Jared Goff went 27/33 81.8%

Feels a little like Flores is still using the same playbook he did against Goff in the Super Bowl. But this is not the same Jared Goff. He's played him four times in the past two years and cooked him for 30+ points every single time

That said, Vikings D looked very good tonight, and if a few breaks had gone their way (near safety, Van Ginkel dropped INT) it could have been a very different game. Goff wasn't nearly as flustered as Darnold, but it was hardly his best game

this guy is a decent twitter doc, local guy who went to U of M and only does Lions injuries

Been correct a lot this year.

MINvsDET #1 seed postgame report

- Branch 2q: Hard hit to head. Finished game. Should be ok.
- Pat O'Connor 3q: calf, out for game
- Terrion Arnold 3q: Right foot, out for game. Hope just mild turf toe hyperextension but foot sprain/fracture possible. Similar mechanism to Kalif. Could be long-term.
- Onwuzurike 4q: Possible R leg injury which was offscreen. Wearing R knee brace all game. Returned and finished game.
- Zeitler 4q: R hamstring. Left game, limping heavily. Could be out multiple weeks.

yeah only completed 82%

he had a couple oopsies I'll take it, both defenses were high intensity

game threads are the worst, teams are doing really complex stuff to disrupt offensive schemes and it's always "aw this guys sucks!"

Vikes tackled well and did a good job. But Lions overall looked like the team that was more used to playing with the pressure of a big game.

One other thing I realized: Was this the first blowout of a quality opponent in the past two years? Certainly this year, they took the likes of Tenn/Jax/Dallas to the woodshed, and pretty thoroughly dominated the first GB game (though it only ended up being a 10-point win). But more often than not under Campbell, their MO has been to keep things close and then do what they needed to do late to pull away. This is the first time I can remember where they never really let the other guys get up off the mat

So, is anyone here planning to go to the game in two weeks?
My flight and hotel are booked. I’ll grab tickets this week.
Would love to meet up with some of you if you’re around.

Punter Jack Fox

It won’t be easy, but Fox is threatening the league’s net-punting average mark. A stat since 1976, the record is held by one of Fox’s favorite players growing up, Johnny Hekker, who averaged 46.0 in 2016.

Fox is at 45.8 yards on 43 punts. If he punted twice against the Vikings, he’d need to average 53 net yards on those boots. That's obviously influenced by field position, and is a steeper challenge after a season-ending injury to top gunner Khalil Dorsey.

Twitter is widely misquoting somebody's bad math.

Had 2-102, 6 return yards, so avg 48.0 on the night.

gross 45-2295-even 51.0, 1st in the NFL, breaks his own Lions record, 6th best season all time

2295 minus 130 return yards equals 2165

2195/45 = 45.9

for some reason the databases that updated earlier have him at 46.2, which would be a new record, but alas he'll have to settle for 2nd best NPY/A on the season.

That first half of the NFCCG 49 weeks ago was pretty dominant

Thank you for reopening that wound ... on the same night where Kindle Vildor may have regained his starting job

Stoked not scared

CD3 gonna come out of that hyperbaric oxygen chamber regenerating his jaw like a T-800 cyborg for the NFCCG

We can get through one playoff game with Vildor - won two with him starting last postseason

Then in New Orleans we’re using the last two IR-R activations on Barnes & Hutch

In a horrible bout of poor pre planning my life I was otherwise engaged last night ( although it was around a 1am start time ), box score looks very strange particularly for the Vikings. Very much looking forward to watching this one.

Fingers crossed for Arnold, Zeitler et al

Great call on the Darnold big game comment pre game

Forward down the field,
A charging team that will not yield.
And when the Blue and Silver wave,
Stand and cheer the brave.
Rah, Rah, Rah.
Go hard, win the game.
With honor you will keep your fame.
Down the field and gain,
A Lion victory!

Dan Campbell record in Prime Time

11-2

Losses
  • 2nd game of 2021, MNF v 13-win Packers
    (Lions lost 13)
  • Week 17 2023 Decker Reported game v 12-win Cowboys
5-1 last year
6-0 this year

Amik has played very well. Getting Iffy back was huge. Kirby and BB are awesome. We just need CDIII and/of Arnold getting healthy and our secondary is rock solid.

Anzalone was a beast coming back from his broken arm. Campbell is quiwrly becoming one of the better LBs in the league. Getting Barnes back would really make the LB crew.

Obviously we really miss Hutch and Alim up front. Reader and Smith have made the DL somewhat respectable. Last night it looked better than expected with consistent pressure on the QB causing numerous bad passes. Muhammad has been a pleasant surprise and Levi has been doing OK. In decent shape for game 1. If Hutch is miraculously back for the NFCC, that would be awesomeness.

Serious question to all Lions fans what were you thinking about your team 2022 season after week 8 they were 1-6? I can't imagine most thought Campbell was their man.

I don't remember much except that the talent was lacking and Campbell took over a trainwreck. I may not have been sure he was the right coach but it was too soon to know for sure given how bad Quinn and Patricia left things.

I was hoping to crash and burn and get the first pick in the draft and get a real QB because Goff obviously isn’t the guy.

I wasn’t giving up on Campbell; I was out on Goff.

Glad I’m an idiot…

Agreed. 2022 was a wreck regardless of coach.

I had hope for Goff. Always thought he got a raw deal in LA. He was a stepdown from Stafford, but most QBs during that trade time period were.

I was totally sticking with them, but was disappointed that they seem to not be making the progress they should have. Sheila gave a great message to them at that point encouraging them about their progress and sticking to their plan. Sheila had faith in the vision and deserves a ton of credit for being a supportive owner. I have been totally on-board team Campbell from the knee-cap speech on. I also had faith in Goff's ability to win a Super Bowl given the right surroundings.

I remember how emotionally invested Dan was when they were losing. I remember him literally tearing up at the podium after a loss…I knew at that point how much he cared and would pour everything he had into it to do what he could to turn things around. That is not necessarily the reason for the turnaround, but he won my respect because you could tell the guy cared beyond words and wanted success so badly for the talent voided squad (at the time) that was fighting like heck to get a win.

First of all Lions fans have always expected the worst so at 1-6 it was just like "here we go again" The only thing I noticed even when they were 1-6 is that it did seem different. The team was playing hard the whole game, the intensity was different, even with lesser talent they were competing unlike the Matty-Patty days. how honest and intense DC was at pressers and interviews. Jim Caldwell and Patricia were total dooshes during interviews. Caldwell acted like every injury was a national security issue.

Was just hoping for some wins to keep it going.

Even now it is difficult to expect the Lions to win..going into last nights game I was not real confident. Why? Still recovering from Football PTSD.

So I went to the game last night with my daughter, A couple observations.

Being at the game, tailgating, the crowd energy and noise can`t be matched and I had a great time.

As far as watching the game, knowing situations, knowing everything going on, and just concentrating on every play on it is much better at home. I woke up this morning and watched the game over and realized I missed or can`t remember all the action because it is more of a blur when you are there in person. I feel the same way watching at a crowded bar. I got up to go to the rest room and it took over 10 minutes to get up and then back down to our seats. At halftime could not get near the rest rooms.

When the Lions were crappy I did not care about concentrating on the actual plays, now I do.

Sheila Hamp did. Came out publicly and said she knows the fans are frustrated, but we have the right guys in place.

She started this whole culture shift. When she and Chris Spielman began this after firing Patricia two days after Thanksgiving, the core values were put in place. Then they found the two guys who embodied what they wanted to be as an organization.

Dan gets the glory and Brad is highly regarded, but it all started with the owner deciding they had to embrace their woeful past. She is the reason they’re all about accountability, collaboration, frank assessment, openness, transparency.

Sounds cheesy but they wanted the building to be a place that was a great place to work. The messaging is consistent and communication is clear from the top down. It’s a franchise that really does want people to be themselves so they can become the best version of themselves. That level of quality leadership is not an automatic thing, it’s not like that everywhere.

Even when they were losing left and right they hung in there and didn't quit. This even showed up in the betting results where the Lions covered the spread even when losing, because they played the full 60 minutes, something a lot of losing teams don't bother to do. You see that and you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
