2025 Detroit Lions: 7-5 Pack beat Lions again. :( (73 Viewers)

You wouldn't think he'd be ready to play in less than 24 hours, but maybe?

Good news for sure. Rags is only 29, maybe he can play a few more years.
My first thought was that the plan when they drafted Ratledge was to have him play guard for a year and then move to center. The problem was that after Ragnow retired, that meant they had to use Glasgow this year. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Ragnow only committed to this year and they’re still counting on Tate for next year.

So what’s the starting OL now? Ragnow at C, Ratledge stays where he is and Glasgow replaces the guy who is subbing for Mahogany (whose name escapes me for the moment)?
I call him Coyote but I know that isn't his name. But yeah I think Glasgow moves into his natural guard position. I don't think he ever wanted to be center.

Awosika, and it makes sense. He hasn’t been playing well.

When the season was starting, they were talking about Rags they said he had lost 35-40lbs to get into a healthier weight after football.

Hopefully he bulked back up last couple months.
“Center Frank Ragnow is returning. Sounds like he’s in shape and ready to roll sooner, rather than later,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted.

Report: Lions center Frank Ragnow is coming out of retirement

Good news for sure. Rags is only 29, maybe he can play a few more years.
He's under contract this year and next. Today was the last day they still held rights, he probably wanted to wait to make sure he was at least somewhat close to game shape.
Possibly this was the plan all along that he retired to reduce the wear and tear but would come back for the stretch run as needed.

Good news: Lions will have their star C back. Bad news: Next week at soonest.
Trystan Colon to start. Rest of OL listed as "Questionable", but AFAIK all expected to start.
Haven't heard definitive word about whether Arnold can play. Davenport also "Questionable" despite Full Practices, but who knows if he's ever actually healthy?

Packers list Van Ness, Jaylen Reed and Karl Brooks out. Golden, Quay Walker & Nixon all officially "questionable" but seem likely to play.

Detroit Lions activate Marcus Davenport in list of pre-Packers roster moves

The Detroit Lions announced a plethora of roster moves on Wednesday. First, they activated defensive end Marcus Davenport and rookie guard Miles Frazier from their respective injury lists and placed them on the active roster. They also signed tight end Anthony Firkser and wide receiver Tom Kennedy off the practice squad to the active roster. Additionally, they elevated offensive lineman Kingsley Eguakun and tight end Zach Horton from the practice squad for Week 13. The team also confirmed that they’ve reinstated All-Pro center Frank Ragnow from the reserve/retired list and placed him on an exempt/Commissioner permission list. The Lions also released running back Craig Reynolds in a corresponding roster move. And lastly, the team did not activate Josh Paschal from the non-football-injury list.

Great to have Davenport back but for how long as injuries seem to find him. Releasing Reynolds I guess elevates Vaki. We need all the reinforcements we can get.

You guys are happy today, huh? This is also a little confirmation. Pardon the format. Look at those names. At least four HoF guys and . . . David Long? lol.

St. Brown has been held in check by the Packers during his career. Except for one game he’s usually kept to the 50 to 60 yards range.

With La Porta and Wright out it would appear Jamo will need to deliver. Lions are not getting much from the WR3 position.

Gibbs has seen his routes and involvement in the passing game go up each game with DC now being OC. This is in part due to necessity as Jamo is inconsistent and the Lions not getting production from the TE and Wr 3 positions.

Possibly the Lions go to more two RB sets to free up Gibbs as receiver.

I think the Lions are going to have trouble scoring with the restricted weapons and OL injuries and the GB defense. Lions defense needs to play well for them to win.

Couldn't agree more. This feels like a 20 - 17 type of game.

Lions need three things to win.

Limit pressure on Goff, whether it is quick passes, runs, screens etc.

No big plays or short fields for the Packers, their offense is broken, make them go 10 plays and 70 yards.

No mistakes from Campbell, points are probably going to be tough to come by, take the field goal attempts, Bates has been very good with the Lions. Any fakes have to work, can't go for every fourth down, pick your spots wisely.

Not that it matters and we will probably never find out, but I wonder who approached who about Ragnow coming back.

Was it Ragnow watching the games and seeing his buddies struggle and he told his wife "I can help, I miss it, and I have to make the call and see if they want me back."

Was it Campbell and Holmes that called Ragnow and said " We are hurting and you can help us, just help us finish the year and let us fix the line this off season"

Was it the offensive line in a group chat "We suck right now and we need to be better, let's call Frank and see if he will come back and help us."

After the last six weeks, I thought there was no chance in hell the Lions would win the Super bowl, I thought it was 50/50 if they would make the playoffs. Maybe it is the happy endorphins talking, but I think the Lions are back in the mix. The Rams and Eagles should be the favorites, but I can see a path to beat those teams, even on the road. If Ragnow is 80 percent of himself the Lions should be the third favorite in the NFC and could be moving up.

Some great names on that list, 3rd year has definitely been the charm for Jack. This is why I try not to do instant/early draft grades for any player, we don't usually see their full development until 2-3 years in the league.

I’m sure Brad and Dan kept the lines open all year and would check in periodically. Also, there are countless stories of guys who retire and realize how much they miss being in the locker room (on the dark side, that can be the kind of thing that contributes to post-career mental health issues).

Wasn’t there some story about the Saints texting Brees the tear after he retired with a picture of him playing QB, and him texting back a picture of himself playing golf? Point being, I bet there are lots of these requests every year that we never hear about because they don’t go anywhere

I found this. I am starting to think that Dan and/or Brad called Ragnow when Mahogney got hurt. Frank said no and then watched the last few weeks and changes his mind and called Campbell.

Has a situation like this ever happened? A star in their prime player retires and then comes back midseason?

Mid-season was 3 weeks ago, we are pushing late season now.

And if it has happened this late I can`t remember.
I just meant while the season was going on and not before it started or in the next offseason. Not necessarily exactly in the middle.

Jordan did it, Mario Lemiuex did, Ricky Williams

Yes..did not mean it to be snarky. (y)

Well the road is getting rougher. Hopefully St Brown is Ok. Did Hutch play today?? I love Hutch but man he is not looking like the highest paid non-QB in the NFL.

Right now hopefully Lions can get a wild card game.

Williams had a great game but his huge drop was a killer.

Pretty much all this. Like I said in the game thread, Lions need to go 4-1 or better going forward, and then have some luck. 7th seed could be best case scenario though they could still get higher if NFC North winner sweeps the two games between Pack and Bears. Or I guess if SF or Seattle collapse, but not counting on that.

Did Davenport play? Pass rush was weak today.

Liked it better when Parsons was on the Cowboys. He is a difference maker.

First game back, but as a whole they have been bad for awhile. They got hits on Winston last week because he holds the ball forever, same with Hurts.

I kind of thought their sack numbers were inflated playing some bad qbs and offensive lines. The Cowboys and Rams have played well on both those fronts. These next two games are huge.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) “could be” sidelined for “a week or two, if we’re lucky.”
That is bad news. Campbell adds that the Lions should know more tomorrow, but St. Brown’s injured right ankle is expected to sideline him for some time. The Lions face the Cowboys, Rams, Steelers and Vikings in Weeks 14-17. Hopefully, he can at least return in time for the latter two contests. Stay tuned.

I don't like it.

I am one of the most optimistic people here but there are a lot of problems with this team right now.

I missed a handful of plays and haven't rewatched the game and I doubt I will because too many things made me sick. I am going to post my thoughts later today or tomorrow but there wasn't one reason we lost; there were a bunch. We are in trouble right now.

The Dallas game is a must win. We have to go 4-1 to get in. Even an optimistic person like me can see that it's a lot to ask given how we are playing.

Also, what is going on with Hutchinson? Aside from the last play against the Giants he has been largely invisible for the last month. We don't have a chance if he doesn't start playing better.

Just need to realize this years version of the Lions is just not the same.

I stated before the 23-24 window to win it all was wide open, This years window right now is just a crack. It is a miracle Lions are not 6-6 and out already..but there is still hope as long as they can get in the playoffs.

This season may come down to the last game at Chicago Bears.

Going to need Hutch to put the defense on his back and make some big plays going forward. The offense without ARSB and Laporta will definitely be limited.

i watch every game, then I usually watch it again later without emotion and it looks different.

It does not seem like he is the same player he was before his injury. Might just need more time but watching the games it looks like he is being handled easier than in the past.

That was my initial reaction as well. Hoping something changes there, but may take another off-season to get back to the level we have seen in the past.

Any chance Frank watched yesterday’s game and was like, “On second thought …”?

At this stage kind of wish Frank had taken the whole year off, get right and come back fresh for 2-3 more seasons.

I don't know enough about his foot injury, but would it work that way? Or is it more he can handle 10 games a year with limited practices and no OTA's?
