I agree with all but the last part.  I'm not asking for the entire tournament to restructure, if we did what you are saying in your first paragraph, the rest would be moot.  I'm only asking for it to be moved a day if the NCAA insists on half the NCSU team sitting out today which neither of us thinks is the right course of action.  The trickle down issue in the integrity of the championship and how it impacts the MSU/Texas winner is potentially significant and it doesn't have to be.
I am with you on that.

NC State out because of COVID. Vanderbilt advances.
Wow. Feel bad for the NCSU fans. Those players are going to carry this around for a while. Imagine not living out your dreams because Facebook or tiktok told you not to get the shot. Sheesh.

This is bull####.  I hate it for NC State.

Not to start a whole thing about being vaccinated, but keep in mind these are mostly 18-21 year olds.  It’s pretty much a fact that’s there’s no reason for them to get vaccinated because poses no harm to that demographic.

They weren’t testing or contact tracing vaccinated players until there were positives on the team from the unvaxxed. So if everybody had the shot there would have been no tests. Try again?
There are twice as many vaccinated players testing positive than unvaccinated.  But everyone go get a shot!!!!  To hell with the side effects just do what the government tells you to do   :lmao:

Hey man just take it to the Q board already.  Everybody dying and in the hospitals are unvaccinated right now so there’s really no point in even addressing this foolishness. I’ll trust doctors and scientists, you can trust Jenny McCarthy and Q.

Congrats to Vandy.  The NCAA at the time of their press release, 1 AM local, congratulated the Vandy Boys!  I actually feel bad for the Vandy players, they are being roasted on social media now for something that's beyond their control.  I admit I'll be pulling for MSU or Texas, but it's now a monumental task against a fresh Leiter and rested Vandy bullpen when you have to exhaust all your bullets today to try and survive while they sit back and watch.  Always loved baseball, hate this situation.  If they do win as they now should, it's hard to view them as champions in the same light as last year's team.  Again, not their fault, but this isn't like a basketball play in game where you are just a little tired and show up to play the next day.  The pitchers they are using like Bednar and Madden are out now.

I wish they could have figured out a way to push the games back 1 week to allow the "Positive Players" time to come back.   The players are not in school at the moment.   All the players being rested 1 extra week would seem like a win/win.     Fantasy thinking I know but what a crap way to end the season.    OOF

Big first inning gives Vanderbilt a 1-0 championship series lead.  Not a whole lot happened after the first.

MSU brought a great crowd.

Man I hate the way we played tonight.  Can’t spot a team like Vandy 7 runs.

I have a feeling we’ll bounce back.  Mccloud hasn’t had a good outing in a while and we kind of expected to lose against Leiter.  We’re still in this.

Anything fun to do in Omaha that’s not the zoo?  Im just not a zoo guy.

Eat and drink in the Old Market. Drive accross the river to a casino. There are a couple museums.

I work on Omaha, but am otherwise not really an Omaha guy.

By pushing the game back a week it is a big disadvantage for whichever team wins (Vandy/NCState) because then their opponent would get a week off to set their rotation and a fully rested pitching staff.  No matter what one of the teams was going to be at a disadvantage however you tried to work it out.  It's an unfortunate situation no matter what.

MSU jumps on Vandy early and often forcing a game 3.

If I wasn't out of state for work I would be going.  :(

This has been a really fun watch. Tonight we've got two aces going with rested pens.  Whoever throws strikes, wins.

It is unfortunate.  I don't follow how Vandy would have been disadvantaged if both teams were allowed to line up their pitching in the championship series even if that is totally impractical and I get that.  I just think the integrity of the tournament was compromised when Vandy was handed a no contest.  It allowed them to save Leiter and rest their bullpen.  There is no real way to fix it once you no contest the Vandy/NC State game.  Maybe Vandy will win and would have won anyway, if they do win we won't really ever know.  Hopefully MSU will win and it's all moot.  Although, it's no fault of the Vandy players, just hard to root for them given the advantage they gained from it.

We were going until my oldest daughter decided she didn't want to go.  If it were my school we would have been going anyway, my wife gave in and we stayed home.

If they postponed the NC State/Vandy game to allow NC State to play then Miss St would have a week to prepare and Vandy/NCState would have to play to win that game and then jump right into a well rested pitching staff for Miss St.  That would be how Vandy or NC State would have been disadvantaged.

Gotcha.  I was thinking if they stuck with the no contest and gave Vandy and MSU a couple days off so they'd have been on equal footing.  I wasn't thinking along the lines of pushing the Vandy/NCSU series off.  Makes sense.

Rooting for the Dawgs.  Vandy is the 'bama of college baseball in that they get ridiculous recruiting classes.

The Dawgs hammering Vandy.  9-0 Top of the 7th.  Vandy has yet to record a hit.

MSU with a chance to win their first ever team national championship.  (Any sport. No jinx).

Other P5 schools without a team national title are Virginia Tech and Kansas State.

Like a lot of people, I quit baseball circa 1994, but tonight's game is one of the best things ever. The final was 9-0,  While it's easy to focus on the '9', it was the '0' that blew me away.  Vanderbilt got smothered (thanks in no small part to there crappy defensive play) .  It was a combined 1-hitter (that was this close to being a combined no-hitter) in a decisive game.

For the first time in forever, I love baseball.

Congrats to the resident MSU fans...most likely don’t realize what a great program they’ve had thru the years, back to the Clark and Palmeiro years. Cool stadium...passionate fan base...enjoy!

I don’t think many are educated on the recruiting advantage Vandy has against the rest of the teams in college baseball.  There’s a great documentary called “Uneven Baseball” that explains it better than I could ever on here.  Every baseball team is handcuffed with only 11.7 scholarships to split up.  It’s maddening for most teams and coaches to make it work.  Almost no player on any team has a full ride.

Vandy being a private school with a huge endowment figured out in 2008 they can setup a “need based” scholarship program and now they can supplement any partial scholarship with this fun.

It’s not that they recruit like Alabama, it’s like if all college football teams had 22 scholarships and Vandy had 65!  They literally have 35 kids on full scholarship on their baseball team.  It’s a loophole that must be closed.

Thank you!!!  Pulled an all nighter and we’re just now back in Mississippi, man what a weekend.  We deserved that title.  It’s long over due.  My first memory was at 5 years old when Burke Masters hits a grand slam in the 9th at Dudy Noble in the last game of the regional.  All we’ve ever know and had to hang our hat on has been baseball.  We were good at baseball before LSU even cared about it.    Then we’ve had to take a backseat and watch them win like 5 or 6 titles, then UGA, Florida, S Carolina, Vandy....it was maddening to us.

I really think this is the start of true run we’re about to have.  All the pieces are in place for us...I hope we can make it happen.

Ah well. They go 0-12 in football and 6-24 in hoops every year. Let them have baseball.

They also routinely get 1st rounders to come to school at a much higher rate than any other program as far as I can tell.......kids turning down 7 figure signing bonuses to go to college.  Most good programs would be happy to get ONE of these kids in a blue moon.

Bama signs 30 kids every year in football, so it's pretty close to the same thing.

The bolded is a fact that parents pumping thousands of dollars into travel ball, personal trainers, playing 12 months a year etc should be made aware of so they can just let their 10 yr olds enjoy this great game.  It's really hard to get baseball scholarships or play at the next level in D1.  It's perfectly fine to play other sports, keep a love for the game, and play NAIA, Div 2 or Junior College for a couple years while getting an education.  Parents would be better off putting all that money into their own "scholarship fund" for their kid and let their kid keep enjoying the game over burning them out.

I am saying this as a guy that coached travel ball for the past 4 years.  However, our program went from March (started practices) through August playing about two tournaments a month and we encouraged the kids to play other sports and do other things.  We also kept the costs down ($100/month to cover tourney costs).  There is a way to play to keep the enjoyment and that should be stressed more than a "trying to earn a baseball scholarship so I have to play 12 months a year"  mentality.

My 8 yr old son is a pretty good lil ball player and I'm looking into travel ball...maybe next year or two......but I'm very leery of burn out for him, and our entire family.  I want to have fun, first, and foremost, so I appreciate your approach.  It gives me hope that we may be able to make it happen.

You definitely need to research your area and talk to a lot of people.  There are good and bad ones everywhere.  Ask the coaches what their focus is.  Also ask what their record is as this is a good indication on their focus.  For true development you want a team to win 50-60% of their games.  If they are winning 90% then they care too much about winning and are scheduling games that are too easy and don't help the kids develop.  Also, figure out if they teach kids all the positions or just one or if they have "pitcher only" players.  This is another bad sign as all kids should learn how to play all (or most) of the positions.  Another good clue is to watch the coaches during games.  Are they in control of every little aspect (don't pick-off or go after plays that will be outs when older) or are they ok with physical mistakes and are teaching the proper plays even if their skills aren't quite there yet?  An example, is back picking (once leadoffs are allowed).  We encouraged our players (age 10 and up) to take advantage of trail runners not paying attention and back pick when they recognized it (i.e. trying to pick the runner off 1st or 2nd with the bases loaded).  We did it all the time and while they were first learning they made physical errors (bad throws or dropped balls or timing off a bit) and it costs us some runs and a game or two but the kids learned what to look for and got better at it.  They developed a feel for the game.  I had many coaches (and even some umpires) tell us never to do that because the kids aren't able to and it will cost you games because of the errors and I just shook my head and said I wanted the kids to learn the right baseball play even if they made mistakes.  I don't want players afraid to make a mistake...it's part of the game and the only way you get better.  By the time the team was 12/13 we were picking off 2 or 3 runners every game.  Kids can do it with practice and encouragement.

I am coming from the perspective of kids aged 10 to 16-ish.  Once they hit about 16 (Varsity level High School) then some specialization is expected because winning should become more important.  But for younger ages it should be about development first and foremost for the coaches.  Winning is byproduct of development at those ages and the kids should be striving to win but coaches should be developing skills and total game understanding first and foremost.

Sorry for being so long on this but going down that travel path can be vert good or very bad and knowing what you are getting into (and what you want out of it) is very important.  I wish you luck and if you have any questions just let me know.

That’s 100% because they can offer them a full scholarship+.  I can almost promise you Msu, LSU, Ole Miss or any other school does not have one single baseball player on a Full athletic scholarship.

we can’t offer that.  Give this a gander in your free time.

Yeah, my IRL GB and his wife are graduates and big time sports fans.  Went to the baseball games many times over the year and they do have one of the best programs in the country that hadn't won one.  Congrats to the MSU fans!

People really get worked up over college baseball recruiting? It’s fun to watch these games but not a sport to get upset about.
While what Manster and JB point out isn't a huge deal, it is in the grand scheme of CBB.  Nobody would write it off if some school had a back door to get these kids at their school in football or basketball (and the numbers were such that it really mattered).  I'm like you and don't really care much about CBB but they really should eliminate the loophole.

I mean this loophole wouldn’t happen because people passionately care about those sports. But I see your point.

Unless things have changed in the last 15 years or so that's what happens in a lot of the smaller sports where the roster size is larger than the number of scholarships available. Find some smart kids that you'd recruit as athletes anyways.

Couldn't any school do this same thing?  I would guess many (all) do this in some manner?
