2025 NASCAR Thread - See OP for 2025 FFA Fantasy Leeg info (3 Viewers)

My daughter's old roommate from college recently had a baby down in Virginia. She would like to go visit and I see the Richmond race is August 11th.
Plenty of good tickets available it seems too.

Anyone have advice or suggestions should we decide to go? Places to stay? Park? Seats to grab or avoid?

Appreciate it.
All I can tell you is that track is in the middle of nowhere
Easy to get in and out on race day as they have all traffic one way. Parking is not bad and camping is great. Shuttles will take you to the track. Night races are fun but go for the all day carnival atmosphere. Lots of free stuff given away and activities to take in.
Best seats for wrecks is turn 3 or 4. Not many bad seats because it is a short track. I used to set on back stretch going into turn 3.
So the opposite of Michigan which becomes an all day event due to traffic flow.

Appreciate your advice.
The races aren’t that great at MiS either. Whomever gets out front right from the start usually gets the win.
Agree. Went back in 2002 and 2003. Haven't been back since.

I was shocked at the start time yesterday. Makes no sense.

I'm done with Bubba. He's mediocre at best and he's a crybaby just like his car owner.

I'm not much of a "the fix is in" kind of guy but.. Common!!

Couple weeks ago Kyle gets put into 5th position when he should have been 20th at best.
Then today.. Normally someone brushes the wall Yellow flag..

Today 1/2 lap before white flag, guy hits wall hard, spins out, car at a dead stop on bottom of track...
Wait..wait.. White flag, caution.. :bs:

I'm just glad it's over.

I don't get a vote but I'd rather see them back on the road course.

Was excited to see how the gas mileage played out. Then a caution for the crappy overtime.
Not sure who is running the numbers on fuel window, but they need to check their math.

Couple weeks ago, some racers were 15 to 20 laps past what they claimed would be empty.
Today, Keselowski was close to 10 laps past when they decided to come in for fuel. :drive:

Kes was doing massive lifting while leading and nobody wanted to (or could) pass him. Plus there was a lot of yellow in the last 100 miles.

What happened to Elliott. He pitted with Larson and Reddick for gas and tires with 32 to go, then restarted ahead of them in 20th. They blew by him and ended up leading. He only finished 10th because others had to pit because of the late caution.

The best defense with Kes was how many other cars managed to be at 53 laps at the start of the RWC - between him and Logano the other week it seemed like a Ford thing. There must be something about this generation of cars that lets them save more than in the past - maybe they are able to power more things off I dunno. The estimates are off way more than even in past years.

Don't forget they also threw out their own rulebook in regards to him missing the 600 after rain delayed the Indy 500.

I always record the race because I can't stand the non-stop commercials. I am always sure to add another 90 minutes on the end of the recording because I have been burnt before. For some reason yesterday NBC in our area must have put the ending on another channel because I am watching with 3 to go--a commercial comes on and then boom it goes to paid programming. I had to find the ending on You Tube and judging by TikTok comments, I wasn't the only one this happened to.

Because of "breaking news" .. President. NBC wanted to get to the news.
They started announcing during the red flag that coverage would switch to USA Chanel. 📺

So much to unpack. The old school NASCAR fan in me loved it, but the emotion quickly turned to parental concern (if this makes sense) as I seriously thought Logano was going to hurt several people on pit lane. Then Denny Hamlin, who I for the most part can't stand, gives an incredibly poised post race interview.

That #3 took me back a few years. Don't tell me Denny or Joey would not have done the same of given the same circumstances
That was my first thought, but I don't know now... it wasn't like he was on 22's bumper... he was back quite a bit and just went too fast into the turn, knowing he'd hit the 22. Then his move on 11 also seemed more aggressive than what is normally done. Looked way too much like a video game to me.

The original #3 "moved" plenty of people to win races, but Dillon flat out drove that in with no chance of making the corner if he didn't hit Logano. Much different. I was never an Earnhardt fan but he was an artist in the way he did it, Dillon looked like someone iRacing about a 6 pack in.

I've been watching NASCAR a long time and can't remember one this egregious that didn't involve payback for a previous incident. There was no way Dillon could make the corner unless the 22 was there to stop him and the hook on the 11 was more dangerous.

When I remember Earnhardt's aggression it's bumping while racing side-by-side. Dillon didn't have even one wheel ahead on either of the cars he wrecked.

Earnhardt would bump you from the back but he would do so in an attempt to just loosen you but he was definitely already on the car in front of him and attempting to make the turn not dive bomb in

It was definitely a hard hit, but Logano has done the exact same move more than once to win races. It is almost identical to the hit he put on Byron back at Darlington years ago. Joey wasn't complaining then.

I thought Dillon hit Hamlin, but the overhead view seems to show Hamlin actually coming up and causing the contact.

Fine Dillon. But Logano needs to be fined heavily for his actions on pit road. His in car camera view is frankly scary how close he came to killing someone there. Even though the NASCAR official was clearly telling him to get in line with the other drivers, he drove into the pit box area where crew and fans were.

That being said NASCAR is happy people are still talking about the race. Let's be honest, that race was boring and uneventful. The only vaguely interesting thing was the red sticker tires and when/who was putting them on. NASCAR needs rivalries and some drama to spice things up.

Although I thought the ending was fun to watch :drive: I have to agree with Harvick who said something along the lines of:

"If you(nascar) allow this, then what stops someone in the final 4 just going out and wrecking the other 3?

Just wreck them and win the championship. Is that what we want?"

Can a NASCAR regular explain to an infrequent casual how this was any different than a dozen other finishes? Is it just degree? Or something really over the top?

I think it's a matter of degree. NASCAR has suspended drivers for what Dillon did to the 11 but they've never taken a win away for what he did to the 22. But I haven't seen anyone go full send into the turn from as far back as Dillon was which I think makes it different from the typical bump and run when cars are much closer in mid-corner.

If I was NASCAR, I'd suspend Dillon for the hook of Hamlin and then deny him a playoff waiver for missing a regular season race. But if I was NASCAR, there wouldn't be playoffs (or stage break cautions) to begin with.

The tl;dr version is this.

Usually when this happens the 2 cars are close and battling for the spot but if they didn't touch both cars would make the turn.

In this instance Dillon would possibly ran straight into the wall if he didn't punt lagano and never made the turn.

But I don't feel bad for legano because he's wrecked many people on purpose

Bump and run is part of racing, Earnhardt Sr. was a champ at it and tipped his hat if someone did it to him..

What Dillon did was straight out wreck someone to win, no doubt, and he doesn't even deny it.

NASCAR claims they are all about safety, Demonization Derby at 180mph is going to get someone crippled or killed.

Dillon was out of line.

What Logano did in the pits was worse. Far worse.

That being said, NASCAR needs to keep people off the track / pit while cars are still in motion. Accident waiting to happen.

Two wrongs don't make a right but three rights make a left

Dillon keeps the win but loses the automatic playoffs berth. Also docked 25 points and his spotter is suspended for being an idiot. Logano fined $50K for also being an idiot.
Nascar had no choice.. This coming up Sunday's race would have been demolition derby if they didn't..

Now, will Logano or Hamlin will take their revenge this weekend. :drive:

I’m good with the Dillon call. I think it sends the right message on racing hard.

I think Lagano got off easy. I really can’t stand Lagano after this incident, I think it was last year where he flipped out on a tow truck driver after he crashed. It was like seeing a person berate a waiter after an honest mistake. Now his temper took him to another level.
