NASCAR penalties from Martinsville race manipulation: Crew chiefs, spotters and a team exec for Bubba Wallace, Ross Chastain and Austin Dillon teams suspended for Phoenix, drivers docked 50 points apiece and fined $100k.Drivers are not suspended.

After 50-point penalties: -- Wallace falls from 17th to 18th in the point standings-- Chastain remains 19th, no change-- Dillon drops from 28th to 33rd
I think this will send a hugh message. Something like this happened years ago at Richmond while I was there. A driver helping a teammate is one thing. This manufacturer collusion is blatantly wrong.
When I was watching I was, out loud, being like "there's no way neither of those guys can find a way past him" and then when Wallace just decided to lose like 8 spots, my god.

I actually think Bell's move was fine - he got loose and it sure looks like he's trying hard to get off the wall and keeps getting sucked back on it, and I think what the other cars did to help each of them is so screwy. I'd probably have made at least as harsh a penalty and I think I'd have still put Byron through based on the egregiousness of the Wallace drop back vs the traffic jam of Dillon/Chastain, but both things were so gross.

Good race. Still don't like the format.

I wonder how NASCAR rigs things so the championship four run up front :tinfoilhat:
It is getting ridiculous. Every year everyone just backs off and lets the final 4 up front.

Might as well bench everyone else and just have the final 4 race by themselves.

I can understand the lappers pulling aside but Bell and Larson had speed all day until they didn't.

Nobody wants to be the driver that takes out a contender. It's ridiculous.
I don't know the right answer, I just know this isn't it.

I’ve stated it before, I’m new to NASCAR, went to my first race in 2019, had a blast, then during Covid, with no other sports going on, I see Ryan Newman, while upside down, take a hit from a car traveling, what 170 mph, in the driver side door, and he walks away from that. I was hooked. The safety tech was amazing.

So really this playoff format is all I know.
I think Legano gives great points in defense of his title.

I don’t even like Legano, but what he says makes sense.

The thing that bothers this noob the most is the Chevy blockade. I still think that was race manipulation and the penalties should have been more severe.

Pretty exciting throughout. I do think the "I don't wanna be the guy who changed the outcome of I'm not in it" style is some crap.

I'm not sure how much of it is like the other cars don't care that much once they're out or if it's more nefarious or if it's just other stuff.

But the only thing that super bothered me about the final race was the stupid commentary about the cars "just moving out of the way. So classy to move over for these top two." Like...is it a race or a coronation? Make them race! Just like they did all season long.

Larson and Bell running midgets at the Chili Bowl two weeks ago is worth a watch to get you in the mood for short track clashing.

Anybody up for some no stakes fantasy NASCAR on the NASCAR app? I just went head to head against my 8 year old on it last year (whooped his keister; figuratively, not literally). (If there’s a better place for fantasy NASCAR, I’m open to it. NASCAR app is just a pick ‘em each week with cap on how many times you can pick each driver.)

Set it up and I'll add the info in the OP.

I will try to watch the race this weekend. Have worked several D2 Football games on that field. Could not imaging racing cars on that track.

I agree with Junior .....they took away the Clash meaning. No cares about it anymore

It's never meant anything other than racing is back for another year
Nah. Back in the day you had to earn your spot into the clash so that's what made it fun. And then they started opening it up to more people and then they took it away from Daytona.

But originally it was just an opening race reward for all the previous season pole sitters. I think it should go back to that

I'm familiar with its history but the race itself was usually just a big drafting train until the final few laps. :tfp:

It didn't help that NASCAR kept changing the format but that's what they do.

All restarts got old. But nice little battles between Elliot and Hamlin. Blaney had a nice challenge and I thought Lagano was going to push his way into the conversation.

Can you give me the short version of how the heck it works? I'm interested but also have two babies under 1 so between that and morning the end of basketball in Dallas, I don't have as much time as I used to for learning new fantasy game formats.

You just pick five drivers each week with another driver in your “garage.” If you don’t change your drivers in any week, they just carry over to next. Limit of starting any driver up to 10 times during the NASCAR regular season, and then up to five times during the NASCAR playoffs. Also some bonus head to head picks that can earn points.

It’s just roto-style cumulative points. Not head to head matchups.

Manage one or more teams of five (5) NASCAR Cup Series™ drivers, picking drivers with the best chance at scoring the most points each week. Participants may only use a single driver a maximum of ten (10) times per Team over the course of the first 26 races of the Regular Season. Participants may only use a single driver a maximum of five (5) times per Team over the course of the final ten races of the Playoffs (Races 27 through 36).

One (1) additional driver may be added to a Garage roster slot before the beginning of a Race, and substituted for one of the starting drivers while the Race is in progress up until the beginning of the final Stage.

Starting Drivers will be automatically carried over from Race to Race as long as the team has not exhausted its use of a particular driver (10 uses for the regular season, and 5 uses for the playoffs). A full Team Roster of five drivers is not required to be scored. A participant will earn points each week as described below based on the performance of the drivers on the participant’s Team(s) for that week. Participants can also earn bonus points each week by successfully predicting the winning driver in each of four head to head matchups of the week, as described below.

2 under 1, congrats. I feel for you for all that work.
