2025 NFL Coaching Carousel & Front Office changes (1 Viewer)

That said, Baker has been excellent for 2 years now, so maybe it’s not all on Cohen.

It's not all Coen. Baker was working his *** off to be a starting QB in the league and his hard work looks to have paid off. I don't know if it will last, but it would seem to be less about Coen and more about Baker.
Sorry, I was a bit tongue in cheek there. Doesn’t always come through in the printed word.

I agree - seems like Baker’s managed to get 2 OC’s HC jobs now. As long as the new OC isn’t a complete turd, Mayfield should continue to put up good numbers.

To me the most telling sign that he’ll be ok is he lost Godwin & didn’t miss a beat. Then for a couple games he lost Evans, and didn’t miss a beat. Then he lost Otton too for a while, and he was still putting up great numbers with largely a receiving corps held together by band aids and bubble gum.

Yep. I agree. Doesn't mean he can't regress, but he had a lot thrown at him the past two years and seems to have passed every test with flying colors (other than sliding and the occasional excitable hiccup that Baker is prone to).

But he's been good. I hope for his and the NFL's sake that it continues, because the NFL is a better league when the quarterbacks are good.

eta* I wasn't writing to correct your point, BTW. Was simply attempting to affirm what you were saying with another opinion.

Gayle Benson & Mickey Loomis: "So Cliff, your (somewhat limited) record of success has been built on exclusively coaching Heisman Trophy winning QBs. We want you to turn our team around with Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, aging skill position players and no cap room to get any more weapons."

Kingsbury: .......

Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill reports Commanders OC Kliff Kingsbury will not make a decision on his coaching future until Washington’s season ends.
Underhill adds, "(Kingsbury) won’t begin evaluating his options until they’re done playing.” Kingsbury has been most heavily linked to the Saints, a franchise now approaching desperation mode after seeing four other teams sign new head coaches

Mike McCarthy has been pencilled in for New Orleans. The two Rooney Rule interviews have taken place and one of those - Mike Kafka - is coming back for a second interview next week.

It’s going to be Mcacarthy UNLESS Kafka blows the Saints out of the water.

Mike Kafka qualifies for Rooney Rule? What am I missing?
That would be quite a metamorphosis for Kafka.

UPDATE: Kellen Moore is supposed to be in for an interview this coming week. Unsure (to me) if it's a legit interview for the head coach position or if it's due diligence on Mike McCarthy.

UPDATE 2: According to the NFL Network, Saints brass "could head to Philadelphia" tomorrow to interview Moore.

UPDATE 3: Saints' brass going to Philly for the interview for sure now.

Mike Kafka is a Rooney rule interview?

Oops, asked and answered

Lions pass game coordinator Tanner Engstand's name is already involved in substantive discussions for the pending Jets offense coordinator role, per a league source.

Steve Wilks' name has also come up in discussions for the Jets defensive coordinator vacancy, per league source.

Engstrand has been groomed to be the Ben Johnson replacement for a couple years. You can find media appearances on YouTube (he'd randomly have a press conference a few times a year), supposed to be a pretty smart guy and highly regarded. He was in front of the team frequently and introduced the game plan installs each week to the offense.

Probably gonna be a HC at some point.

Mike McCarthy backs out of the Saints’ HC derby.

My speculation: Kellen Moore is the leader in the clubhouse. Mike Kafka is the fallback option.
According to this account, McCarthy “backed out” because the Saints weren’t interested, but who knows the real deal:

I think Jordan Schultz earned a favor from someone. Believe Saints not only were interested but wanted to hire him, came down to power/control as reported by Josina Anderson and some others.

Pete Carroll 3 years with LV. Wonder if he and Tom have a QB in mind because otherwise they're sunk as per usual in the brutal AFC West. Beggers can't be choosers, but I would not be thrilled to join the division with Reid/Mahomes, Harbaugh/Herbert, Payton/Nix.
JFC Raiders adding Geno/Chip Kelly.
Raiders, Broncos, and Chargers all drafted their new starting RBs.
Chiefs have quietly had a solid offseason and draft.
Suffice to say, this division might be the best in football and is going to be a battle going forward as opposed to the cake walk KC has had the past decade.
