*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: Starting QB? TBD later (2 Viewers)

Ambivalent to.Sawyer. Pretty good rusher, but not sure Id have went that way here. Was hoping for another DL or perhaps a CB.

Dont hate it, but not in love either

Disagree with Schefter’s opinion that Steelers passing on QB has anything to do with Rodgers.

The Steelers obviously do not believe that any of the QBs in this draft are ready to start in the NFL.
OK I get that.

But at a certain point Shedeur is so talented compared to the level of players being drafted around him that it becomes a steal and you really should do it. Actually I think we’re already way past that point.
I get the feeling that Deion said something to the point of, “If you don’t draft him in the 1st, don’t draft him at all. We will do the UDFA thing.”
Ahaha… I just posted exactly that in Sanders‘ thread.

1. They’re still going to draft a QB. McCord, Howard, or somebody else?

2. Is it more likely than not that, in game 1 of the 2025 season, Aaron Rodgers will be the starting QB for the Pittsburgh Steelers?

McCord would be OK now, but I don't think Howard even has potential to stay in the league as a 3.

Rodgers is the QB.

1. Maybe, maybe not. Might be able to just go UDFA. Again, not a good QB class.

2. I’m just Bracin’ for Mason! Let’s win 5 and get a high pick for next year! (I know, we don’t do that. Omar has done enough I trust him not to overpay if it is Rodgers.)

Assuming QB next?

Id probably go DB. Get someone that projects as an eventual viable Nickel defender. CB, S...whichever.

Wouldnt be opposed to a swing OT either. Brown, Lundt, etc.

Bond as a wild card playmaker on offense could be interesting too ( well, in a different sort of offense he could be)

Strange that kiesel announced him as a DE

Yeah he pretty much screams space eater to me.

I've got a buddy who is a massive Hawkeyes fan/alum. He said that Yaya made his share plays from the nose, and got better year after year, but he is basically an "immovable object type" more than a guy who is going to be making dynamic plays on the edge.

I suppose if they are looking to improve their run defense, having him as an edge setter in certain sets could be something they're looking at? 5th rounder, so viewing him as anything other than a rotational piece is probably expecting too much

McCord or Howard is my guess.
They make the most "sense", I suppose, but they probably made the most "sense" last round too.

Still not going to be shocked if they don't take a single one during the draft, and then pick up a camp body as an undrafted. There have been e-rumors for two or three weeks that their scouts like the kid from NDSU. 🤓

Pittsburgh always seems to love Buckeyes.

ETA: Fact checking myself, and I guess that hasn't been a thing for a decade or so. But they did get a lot of Buckeyes back when football was newer to me and more interesting to me. And now this year.

My mock had Howard in the 5th so I’ll take that as a win. 3 correct picks so far…

I did a mock on another site as the Steeler rep with 31 other humans about a month ago. He was my fifth rounder in that one as well.

He's the only player that I've nailed so far, but I did get four out of the five positions correct so far (did not select and Edge, I went with a WR)

FWIW, Bleacher Report draft coverage had a QB scout on as a guest speaker who called Sanders a 6th round pick (about 10-20 picks before he went off the board). So everybody pimping him for the first few rounds needs to pump the brakes. There’s a reason Mel Kiper isn’t an NFL GM at the moment, guys.

I love when ESPN put up the graphic of the times Kiper ranked a QB high who fell and turned out good. Would have been neat to show all the times he ranked a QB high and they didn't turn out good.

Like Akili Smith, Johnny Manziel, and Jimmy Clausen (whom he said if he didn't become an NFL star he'd retire (but obviously didn't))?

That's just to name a few.

Had they taken a versatile oline over nepotism, I would be ecstatic really about this draft. I think they plugged holes with guys who are ready to play and are Steelers.

I'm actually stoked with Steelers' draft result by reloading their defense. It's high time for them to return to their bread and butter, which is defensive dominance. For last two years, they were gashed by offensive rushing attack.

Yeah, Bruno Jr coulda been a UDFA, but just about anyone in the 7th could I guess.

Very satisfied with the double DTs and KJ. Warming to Sawyer, conceptually. The rest are darts.

Really hope they let KJ wear #2😃

I haven't seen this speculated anywhere, but I suspect Sawyer is going to play inside a portion of the time, either in the middle of the LBs or possibly even on the LOS from time to time. I don't think he's going to play 100% of his snaps on the edge unless the Watt/Highsmith/Herbig suffers multiple injuries.

It'll will be interesting to see what they try, if nothing else. Guy certainly made plays.
