I love Sig but I cannot for the life of me ever make sense of his Rent a Defense column. Denver is a candidate this week? Not a single person dropped them on their bye.

The column often slightly confuses me.

Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one. Like I said love him but I haven’t gotten any real value out of it. The candidates are almost always 90% of the time on rosters.

I'll add in they are dead last in sacks this year with 13. Like historically bad. We can research fantasy defenses for countless hours and the one thing I know for sure is my fantasy defense needs to get sacks. They don't. Hard pass no matter the matchup.

1. Dallas' defense continues to improve. The trade-deadline moves continue to pay off for Jerry Jones’ club. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams generated a team-high six QB pressures and tied for the lead with two run stuffs. Williams’ presence completely changes how Dallas can play defense -- he took on 10 double teams on 29 pass rush snaps, most among Cowboys players. This time of year I look for teams trying hard vs teams that are quitting. Minn has the look in week 16 - disappointed season, bad/young qb, star player checking out, and a dome team outside in the cold.

No way do I start the Giants, for that reason. When are people going to learn? Don’t start bad defenses; even in good matchups.

In my scoring system the Giants DST is dead last in points on the year at #32. Are you going to trust that in the fantasy playoffs?

Seems every time I’ve started the bills over my lifetime they’ve failed me.

They actually looked decent against Pitt last week.

Last week was a bad one for us "prioritize good defenses over good matchups" truthers. Actually, Houston's D played well against Indy but didn't put up a lot of fantasy points. Cleveland's D didn't play terribly, either, but that game script was the exact reason you worry about teams like that. The offense/special teams kept screwing up and giving the SF offense great field position, and eventually the game got out of hand. That's going to happen sometimes with an offense that bad.

I'm still sticking with both. Obviously Cleveland has a dream matchup vs Tenn this week. Houston has a much tougher one with KC, but I've ridden them this far, plus with the uncertainty on the rest of my roster I don't really have the spots for a second defense. We'll see if that changes for the playoffs

You have to consider the offenses of these Ds as well. Last week Baltimore was completely hung out to dry as the offense turned it over 5 times. Yes, Burrow looked good, but part of that was giving him the ball in great field position. Cleveland D has to be in that camp as well, no? I guess they will get the sacks. But a big part of scoring system is points allowed.

I’m riding with the Bills week 16, and only week 16. Browns O is very generous to DSTs and Bills D is improving. Deshaun Watson’s practice window opened today, so the Bills might even be able to tee off on his shakey self.

For whatever reason there aren’t a lot of great matchups in week 16 compared to the other playoff weeks, so the Bills are toward the top of the options you can reasonably still pick up off the WW.

Not sure how confident you are in your lineup or your scoring rules. Maybe your league scoring rules favors Colts over TB.

TB has one of the most favorable matchups ROS.
