2QB Redraft - How early do I take my 3rd QB? (1 Viewer)

Hi All -

I have my redraft league draft coming up in a couple weeks. It is an annual 2QB redraft, standard scoring, 10 team league.

Given what we are seeing in other sports, in particular MLB and the NBA, it got me thinking about how early I should be looking to draft my 3rd QB in this format. In years past, the earliest a 3rd QB went (in 2019) was the 9th round. Then another in the 11th and then it staggered after the 13th round. It is a 20 round draft with a DEF, K and (3) IDP players, so 15 offensive skill positions

We've seen players suddenly be put on the COVID IL list in baseball, and given the social circumstances in the US, we've seen players and or teams postponing their games. Would it be advantageous at all to draft your 3rd QB much higher this year in the off chance one of these situations come up mid week or game day? Looking for QB's on the wire is a fool's errand. How early would you draft a 3rd QB given how shallow the league is and without bypassing so many skill players at WR and RB.

I think this is dependent upon who your other 2 QB's are and if you think there are tiers that are drying up.  I understand your thoughts about the unforeseen but in reality I think you need to play it just like normal.  There is no way to know if/when you get hit just like any other injury situation so I don't think you should necessarily plan for it.

What's the rest of your starting lineup requirements? If it is pretty standard outside of the 2 QBs (ie 2 RB, 2 WR, Flex, something similar), then QBs are very valuable, as given the nature of the league and some unsettled situations, there aren't enough stable situations in which to not only get the two starters for your team, but also a good enough backup to cover byes and injury. I'd do whatever was necessary to be sure I had 3 QBs that were highly unlikely to lose their job and did not share a bye week across all of them. If that means 3 in the first 9 rounds, I don't think that is unreasonable as you would have been able to fill the rest of your skill positions by then (I'd only adjust this if the IDP rules are such that they actually have an affect and you need to consider filling those spots earlier)

10 team leagues leave plenty of WR (and some RB) option in waivers, but the two QB rule makes them scarce. Target them early/often, and I wouldn't even avoid carrying 4 with the idea being to stream TE/K/IDP and maybe even the last WR.

it's pretty standard across the board 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, W/R, W/T then six bench players

IDP are usually drafted late with DEF and K, so no need to fill those any sooner.

Thanks for the input. I am looking to secure 1 of the top 6 QB's in the first 2 rounds, take my 2QB in around the 4th-5th, then come around the 9th-10th I'll see who is available and nab an unquestionable starter.
