I know he wasn't known for having big numbers, but I'm still surprised that Troy Aikman never had a 3,500 yard season.

Also surprised that Jeff George is the only Falcon QB to do it, especially considering how many big years Rison and Mathis had.

The Falcons threw for over 3500 yards several times, but they never had a QB that was healthy enough and/or good enough to play all 16 games.

I think if you asked a serious NFL fan which teams had the most different 3500 yard passers over the last 20 years, I'd bet that quite a few of them would correctly identify Denver as one of the franchises. At the same time, I doubt anyone would have guessed that Brian Griese wasn't among the 3500 yard passers. Heck, I'm a Denver diehard and even I had to go back and double check... but it was absolutely right.

In order to post 3500 yards over 16 games, you only need to average 219 yards per game. In his 4 seasons as a starter, Griese averaged 247 ypg, 269 ypg, and 229 ypg... he just kept missing time. The only time in his 4 years in Denver that he started more than 13 games, he only averaged 188.5 yards per game.

God as a Chiefs fan seeing the name Elvis Grbac makes me want to hang myself. Grbac and Bono, ugh brings goosebumps, rage, and serious homicidal thoughts.

I cringe....

You should, considering you had an awesome QB on the bench and chose to play those clowns over him. If I recall correctly Gannon tore it up for you when Elvis got hurt (96 or 97 season?) but in the playoffs Marty decided to play Elvis instead of Gannon and you lost a close game. I hated the Chiefs quite a bit, so this was a joyous time for me. :-) sorry

These are very interesting lists (QBs, RBs, WRs) David.

I appreciate the work and research you put into them.

Good stuff!

Thanks.

Gannon took over for Grbac and lost his first game to the Jags but won the next 5 by a combined score of 146-52. Grbac returned for the last regular season game and the Chiefs lost to the Broncos 14-10 in the divisional round of the playoffs.

These threads are extremely interesting. No big surprise to see the teams at the bottom....

From a fantasy perspective, it seems like it would be more useful (forward-looking) to see this view not from an NFL franchise standpoint, but looking at the same cuts by head coach (e.g., Holmgren, Cowher, Bellicheat instead of GB/SEA, PIT, NE)

All-time, over 4500 yards passing. Marino, Moon and Fouts did it twice. Warner did it twice, but with different teams, which has to be good for something. Marino did it at the ages of 23 and 25, which always impressed me. The right place for Lomax, I guess, is with Arizona. I expect this list will really grow in the next ten years.

St. Louis/Arizona, Warner, Lomax

Denver, Cutler

Houston, Schaub, Moon (2)

Indianapolis, Manning

Kansas City, Green

Miami, Marino (2)

Minnesota, Culpepper

New England, Brady, Bledsoe

New Orleans, Brees

Oakland, Gannon

San Diego, Fouts (2)

St. Louis, Warner

Interesting. Not to be too picky but you forgot to put the (2) by Tony Romo.

I wasn't too suprised by Aikman not having a 3500 yard season but he did come within 50 yards one season.

Tony came within 50 of having another one.

As a Jets fan, I am very surprised Vinny is our only 3500 yd passer considering during that time we had Tony Martin and Terrance Mathis (never really did much as Jets), Rob Moore, Keyshawn Johnson, Wayne Chrebet, Lav Coles, Santana Moss and Jericho Cotchery (if the Jets do anything right, it is WRs and RBs).

The other thing I think is cool is that Vinny is listed 3 times with 3 separate teams. Could he be the best "jouneyman" QB ever? What would that even entail? 3+, 4+, 5+ teams? Would be pretty cool to look at since there are guys in the HOF that I do not think would be able to hack such inconsistencies...

Bledsoe did it for the Pats, Bills, and Boys.Moon did it for HOU, MIN, and SEA.I don't think there are more guys that have done it for 3 teams.

Hey, easy there on the Steve Bono hatred. He's one of the only pro athletes I know of to attend Norristown - my HS alma mater. Mike Piazza grew up in Ntown but was too good for us and went to Phoenixville.

yeah I thought Grbac was decent for the Chefs if not good, why the hate? The sudden retirement?
