#3 pick in playoff league (1 Viewer)

I got the #3 pick in a fantasy playoff league that runs from Wild Card round all the way through the SB, pick a team and go...total points league...Ive heard the guy with the #1 pick is leaning toward a QB, #2 pick probably is taking AP...so, who do I take at #3, Id love to grab Ray Rice but if he is one and done I only get one game out of him...I was also thinking about Wayne, they should be good for 2 games minimum...

its a PPR league, any suggestions on who I should go with at the 3rd pick?

You have to take a guy that you think will go to the super bowl. Or at least play 3 games. In my opinion it should be someone from SD, Dallas, or Minnesota. Depends on the lineup you need to fill and other things. Without knowing the particulars, I'd go with Romo.

I personally don't think Rice is going to make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

How many are in this league? It's my opinion that QBs are gold in playoffs. If Brees is out there, that's a ton of points to pass up. Remember, you must have a QB and there's only so many starters. The reason why QB is not valued in typical redrafts is because you can get one anytime, there's 32 teams. Not the case here, so again, my question is how many teams are in this league. If it's 8-12, I'd get my QB now. Brees, Peyton and Rivers should all be safe for 2 games with upside for more. Having a hard time seeing anyone else that feels that safe.

I think I can get Favre later, no one in my league likes the Vikes, all hate them actually, and I dont think anyone is giving us any chance in the playoffs, so I think I can wait on Favre, who Id love to have...

7 teams in the league...we start as follows...1QB1RB2WR1RB/WR1RB/WR/TE1TE1K1DIts PPR and 6 points for all TDs...

If they follow suit from last year the projections and game predictor will come out on Tuesday but probably not until evening time is my guess.

If you click on the Site Map tab from FBG Home Page, then 2008 Articles, then P1, it will show you what and when they released stuff for last years Playoffs week #1.

I would go A. Rodgers. One game at Arizona and if Green Bay wins he will likely get the Saints. Green Bay is the team to watch as they may have the best shot to play at least three games. Even if Rodgers only gets two games in he should post huge stats in those two games.

Your roster allows 1RB and 4WR, that is what I would field in this PPR league.

Interesting. Initially I thought QB would be the pick but with a 7 teamer you will defintiely get a good one even if you are last to take one - plently left to choose out of Brees, Manning, Rivers, Rodgers, Romo, Favre, McNabb, Brady or Warner.As suggested earlier, a WR heavy approach could be a good strategy.

But he's also guaranteeing that one of them moves on if they face each other. And one of those guys can put up huge numbers in a loss. I don't mind picking them both. I'd rather pick a guy like Brady/Moss, though, and hope the Pats play 4 games. Or Driver/Rodgers.

I see your point, but IMO they will play in the AFCTG and that would mean I would guarantee 2 games from each and 3 for one, having at least one guy in the SB...I just took Favre as Rivers went right before me...Im a homer but I see the Vikes in the SB also...just had a run on TEs, Gates, Clark and Witten just went, I may need to grab one next but the top ones are gone now...

So much of this is dependent on the scoring system your league uses. Once you look at the fantasy stat totals from the regular season, the answer should be clear. You simply take the player that has the highest fantasy point total on a team you think is most likely to make it to the Superbowl. It doesn't matter if it's a kicker - take 'em. In many leagues, kickers have higher point totals compared to other position players, but the high scores of one kicker are offset by the high scores of other kickers on other fantasy teams. Unlike in the regular season, however, it's a battle of attrition with playoff fantasy pools. Only two teams will have starting kickers in the Superbowl. So let's say that you think San Diego has the best odds of making it to the Superbowl and, with your league's scoring system, Kaeding has more points than Rivers. Then you take Kaeding.

Good luck but I think you're hosed. By going with Favre you need the vikes to go to the bowl. You have no other Vikes position players to capitalize on. Your roster is to spread out to post big numbers the last two weeks. I think you locked yourself into a middle of the pack finish.

I'm not a homer, obviously, but also see the Vikes in the playoffs over N'awlins. Given that bet--I actually picked Favre over Brees at #4. As for the OP question--I'm with those who say QB's are gold. In our 6-team playoff draft--picking 1-2-2-1-1-1 plus WC--QB's went with the first five picks. The owner picking at the turn decided that he'd go for value elsewhere and pick his QB later--and was likely surprised when QB's went on 4 of the next 5 picks as everyone else but myself immediately filled their wildcard slot.

There's a lot to this, imo. I tried through our draft to target players off a few teams I favored to reach the SB or at least play three games--and missed out frequently by one or two picks ahead of me. So despite trying to focus on teams I ended up simply going for what I thought were value plays--and ended up with 8 teams represented on a 9-man roster. Hopefully they'll be able to build up a fair lead over the first couple weeks which maybe could hold up....
