3 players from same offense? (1 Viewer)

What do you think about having 3 guys from the same offense playing for your team? Statisticly, they are the best 3 I have for this week. Having all 3 in one game makes me nervous. Experience, thoughts??

For the better part of the year I hadthe following 3 in my lineup

Phillip Rivers

LT

Kaeding

I am 9-3. Got a bye in the first round and am playing week 2 of the playoffs.

I had planned on starting Favre as my QB but that kind of fell apart for me. So Rivers took over.

Depends who were talking about. In one of my leagues, I have Boldin and Fitz and was lucky enough to pick up Warner. In that case, its a no brainer most weeks.

i'm going with (as with most weeks) cutler, bmarsh, and scheff. gotta love those double-dipped long td passes

Guy in our league has Romo, Barber, Witten, and Folk. Won his division and earned a bye the first week of the playoffs. When he has a good week he has a REALLY good week, but when he has a bad one he gets beat pretty easily. Kind of a gamble.

Good, bad or otherwise I am rolling with Brees, Bush, P.Thomas, L.Moore & Hartley tonight.

If they are your best players, start them. I have started Warner, Boldin and Fitz all year and am not going to stop now. I don't care who they play.

There is a preseason article about this on the main site I'm too lazy to find. I believe there is even an additional point/counterpoint article on it. It discusses pros/cons of several combination (QB/WR, QB/RB, RB/WR, QB/RB/WR, WR/WR, etc.).

You just really have to hope that team doesn't have an off week. I've gambled starting 3 solid players from the same team because they were playing a horrible defense and ended up shooting myself in the foot.

Every week your gambling with your lineup, so what is the risk vs the reward? In my opinion, your risk increases substantially with every player from the same team you start, but maybe it's worth the potential reward (like one guy mentioned with Warner, Boldin, Fitz). Do you HAVE to start those players because they are studs? What is the projected drop-off in points for starting a player from a different team? Personally, I only do this now when I believe it to be a sure thing, there is a huge point discrepancy between my next best option, and/or I think I have no chance of beating my opponent and I'm willing to try anything. Otherwise, I like to diversify my portfolio - going for consistent returns over riding out booms and busts. I think Garrard will put up more points than Thigpen this week, but because I have to start MJD, I'm benching Garrard in favor of Thigpen. The difference between Garrard/Thigpen this week is pretty negligible so I'm not too sore over it.

Anything can happen to cause a team to be "off", even if the combination of players seems to be unrelated (QB/RB) - weather, off-field issues unknown to the public, the mood of the football gods (randomness of any given game).

been riding Cutler/Marshall/Royal pretty much all season. i also have CJ3 and LenWhale on that team, along with Tenn. D/ST.

finished 10-3, most points scored, first round bye.

During the regular season I don't think it's a big deal at all. You can bounce back from a bad week. But during the playoffs I would not go with more than two guys from the same team. There's just too much risk. I'm playing a guy who has Cutler, Marshall, and Royal and I know that if Carolina runs the ball against them and controls the clock I'm going to win. The same guy also has ADP and Berrian vs Arizona. So he's betting his entire season on two games. I think he's probably one of the most extreme but the idea is the same. During the playoffs I'm not willing to risk my season on the outcome of one game.

I'm in a keeper league and have Romo and Barber. That is worrisome to me as they are playing the Ravens. Given that Barber may not be 100% and I have Romo I'm probably going to play Slaton instead. I also avoided Folk this year (due in part to him going early). I don't think it's quite as bad to have a running back and a QB as a QB/WR/TE combo since one will succeed even if the other struggles.

Starting 3 from the same team adds risk to your lineup. Your fortunes will likely ride on the outcome of that game. What this means is that you're more likely to have high highs and low lows.

The question becomes when or if this is desireable. If you have a lesser team than your opponent, it probably makes sense to do this. You increase your odds of having a big week. But if you have a better team, you increase your odds of having a bad week and losing.

You can get into financial theory and the principles of diversification to more fully explain this stuff. But hopefully, the above gives a useful enough summary to be helpful.

I've been starting Turner/White all year and I'm not changing it up now. For a couple weeks I had Ryan going too and he did quite well with the right matchup. Number 1 seed.

guy in my league has:

McNabb

Westy

D Jackson

portis

cooley

over 2/3 of his line up from 2 teams

edit: he won the div and is favored in the rd 2 playoff

Wow I hope the bears don't shut them down tonight. That would hurt!!!
Yes, yes it would.
So far they are getting shut down for what they usually do. Whole half left to play, I hope they turn it around for you. This is the only issue with this strategy as discussed below, high highs, low lows.

In my league my goal is to average 9 points per player per week, I was really hoping for 10 points per player tonight but I hit 9 so I will have to be content with that.Moore has been a real disappointment since Bush came back, it's going to be tough to start him next week, even at Detroit.
