I play in a Diamond Mind computer baseball league (See sig. for more info). I have pick #3......The first pick will be Eddie Matthews. The next best 3 remaining are **** Groat, Lew Burdette, and Hoyt Wilhelm. Who to take?

Will hang up and listen, and will answer yours.

I'd probably go with Groat in a progressive. He'll fill a key defensive position for twelve years but you'll have to wait out 53-54 while he was off in the Army.I don't know how valuable relievers are in your format. As for SPs, Harvey Haddix is better than Burdette in runs above replacement and ERA+ but Burdette ate about 700 more career IP. Burdette's quantity is probably better than Haddix's quality in a progressive.

I like Burdette a lot, he'll give you solid innings for a decade. I'd be surprised if he didn't go #2, though. If Haddix is there I'd consider him over Groat, unless you're not in a position to win 53-54 anyway.

I found out through the league that the first 2 picks will be Mathews and Burdette. After looking more closely at the list I will be taking Harvey Kuenn with pick #3.

Got another draft coming up in May for 1975 that I traded for the #1 pick overall. I will be taking Ron Guidry with that pick.
