49ers going after QB Warner (1 Viewer)

Just rumor from what I've heard but the 49ers have a strong interest in trying to get Warner. He'd be a godsend to our woeful offense. I imagine Ike Bruce might hang around another year if Warner were there. I'm sure Kurt would do wonders for the two young receivers JasonHill and Josh Morgan. He'd be familiar with Bryant Johnson, if that means anything, as well if they keep him. I'm sure they'd have enough cap space to sign him for a couple of years. If they got him then they could look at taking QB Mark Sanchez with the #10 pick in the 1st if he's still there. Our pitiful team is sorely in need of help like Warner. I can't stand the Yorks as owners and wish someone else would buy the team 'cause they've really mocked up this storied franchise. They would however get a small reprieve from me should they land Warner. I'm probably just wishful thinking that we'll get Warner anyway. Why would he want to leave a team that just went to the superbowl and has receivers like Larry Fitzgerald, Boldin(if he stays) and Breaston to throw to. All 3 had over 1,000 yds last year.Warner would certainly help to start to bring back some respectibility back to the 49ers as we had quite a few bad years here lately. So, I'm gonna hold my breath and my expectations that we'll get Warner for our QB but stranger things have happened inthe NFL.

I think Warner's agent is doing his 'due dilligence' in maintaining leverage and market value for his client. No way is Kurt Warner leaving Arizona.

I agree. On NFL Live yesterday they were talking with him and bringing up the rumor that he might talking with another NFC West team, and he had a big grin on his face and wouldn't say if it was true or what team it was.

I COULD see the 49ers interested. Hell, I could see ALL the teams in that division in interested in him. But I think it's also part-ploy to drive his price us, and get AZ to budge and get him in the $14-$16 mil range.

Think I have to agree with you. Smart move on the part of his agent looking around at other teams that would surely welcome Warner for a couple of years and would spend the bucks to get him. It really does create leverage for Kurt in the fact that Arizona better pony up some money to keep him away fromthose other teams or they will be forced to go with Leinart and their odds of returning to the SB with him greatly decrease. Don't think they really want to go that route this year after being in the SB with Warner at the helm. Regardless of the teams that are showing interest in him and for sure would put up the coin he's looking for I think it'd be a very foolish move at this point by the Cardinals to let Warner get away because of a difference in a few dollars, well maybe a couple of Mil. I'm not ready to call Leinart a bust just yet but I don't think he has a better chance of getting them back to the SB than Warner does and that's even if they don't have Boldin. I think their chances are a little better if they can find a way to keep Boldin but Warner is a great QB and he'd make good use of Steve Breaston as his #2 if Boldin were gone. They also have Jerheme Urban who as the #4 guy had 34rec/448yds/4tds with Fitz,Boldin and Breaston in front of him. Should Boldin be gone I think Urban could be a viable #3 guy for them, plus they have the rookie from last year Early Doucet to help contribute. I think their chances of getting back to the SB only lessen somewhat, not to a major degree, if Boldin is gone. It'll be Kurt Warner that makes things happen and he'll be successful with the 4 guys of Fitz,Breaston,Urban and Doucet. Now the running games a different story. From what I've seen a lot of people have the Cards taking RB with the 31st pick. Surely one of Wells, Moreno, Shonn Greene, Lesean McCoy or the recently stock elevated Donald Brown they should be able to get one of those guys. With one of those guys and along with Tim'All along the' Hightower they should be able to create a sufficient running game outta 2 of those guys.

He would be insane to go to the Niners. Even the SF speculation is that he's just looking for leverage.

Agent Mark Bartelstein's conversation with general manager Scot McCloughan was seen as little more than an attempt to gain leverage with the Arizona Cardinals, who failed to re-sign Warner before the start of free agency.

Warner, who will be 38 when the 2009 season begins, has said he wants to re-sign with the team he took to the Super Bowl or retire.

"More leverage than anything else," is how one source put the discussions.

I don't think this is any more than leverage for Warner either, but there are reports that Warner will be visiting SF on Monday. Given that SF wants to run the ball a ton, this doesn't make sense for either the team or Warner. Maybe SF is just trying to stick it to the Cardinals, who knows.

This probably won't go over that well, but I am going introduce the religion angle. Remember both Warner and Singletary are openly devout Christians. Not convinced it would an only reason situation, but it maybe a factor that many of us would not immediately think matters.
