49ers @ Saints game thread (preseason) (1 Viewer)

The entire 49er team looks rotten. Tim made a good point that they are under a new regime right after a lockout. A total of 12 practices under the belt.

I'm pretty much not drafting a single Niner except for Willis.

This is pretty unhelpful for those of us not watching the game. Unpack a little?
sorry bout that.1st half thoughts.9ers D looks good, Aldon Smith is a force already. Their offense is having major protection issues, Gregg Williams is dialing up blitzes like it's the regular season. Kap came in and looked ok. Couple nice throws, couple bad ones, couple 3rd down runs for 1sts, including a 30 yarder.Brees was only in for a few...Ingram looks good...which isn't much of a surprise. Same deal as in college. Great vision and balance. A ray rice/emmitt smith type back.

Yeah they need more practice...Might be good for us to wait and see what kind of improvements they make by the last preseason game.

I honestly don't think that's enough time. I see this playing out with Smith starting, sucking, then giving way to Colin. I love his potential and would take him in dynasty, but he needs grooming. i don't see many good games for the Niners until late in the season.

I think this year is going to be a "rebuilding" type year with the niners, with a lot of growing pains. The O-Line looked horrendous today, but there were a lot of blitzes coming from the Saints. I think Gore and Willis might be the only fantasy worthy players, and if the O-line doesn't drastically improve, I see trouble for VD. That said, it is still the first preseason game. I could still see VD putting up decent numbers, but I think any hope for Braylon or Crabtree has to be slim.

RB joique bell looked good for NO against the back ups. something like 6/42 on the ground. showed good burst and confidence. i don't think he's going to replace ingram - right, i know - but he could catch on with another team (if NO put him on practice squad). NO is loaded at RB with sproles, ingram and thomas. ivory is expected to remain on PUP once the season starts, so bell will likely hang on as RB4 until then. he is having a surprising and good camp, according to the beat reporters. he could push ivory, if ivory isn't ready come week 7.

Forgot all about Joique...

Personally I wasn't too impressed with Ingram considering the amount of hype. He looks to be a strictly between the tackles guy, and didn't flash receiver instincts on the dropped pass. TD run was good, but IMO he's not an all-around back, which is probably why Sproles is there as well.

Pretty much what I expect from him. A bigger, stronger Rice/Emmit. Problem I see with him though, is you will see vajayjay a lot on his injury report. Got some Beanie Wells to go with his Emmit Smith.

How'd Chase Daniel look running the Saints' offense?

It's his third year there and camp reports were glowing about how he'd progressed. Payton said that's why they weren't considering signing a vet backup.

I just nabbed him to handcuff to Brees (instead of grabbing an Alex Smith or Rex Grossman).

6 rushes in the preseason and he's getting hated on!What exactly is a "strictly in between the tackles guy" and why is that a bad thing anyway? He is an Emmitt Smith clone, bottom line.

I'm not really hating on him, just observing what I saw. He didn't look natural as a receiver and didn't look to have enough speed to get around the corner on outside runs. With all the hype i've been reading I figured he'd be more impressive against the niners 2nd and 3rd string D.

Interested in how Kendall Hunter looked.....
Hunter was decent, didn't get to do much on returns. He goes down a little too easy for my liking so don't expect MJD here, but generally showed good vision. Reminds me of a slightly bigger LaRod stephens-howling, which isn't a bad thing.

As opposed to saying he's a clone of the NFL's leading rusher of all time on 6 preseason carries.

i think daniels did pretty well. he seemed to play within himself. the o-line did a good job of protecting him and giving him time. i recall him throwing much downfield, if at all, but there were some throws to WR roby and TE humphreys that were mid-range. he didn't have a great touch but he seemed to know what he was doing. his experience in the system seems to serve him well.

The hype on Ingram is his vision, balance, strength, and instincts...not his speed to get to the outside.

Watching the replay now. One play he had 'happy feet', got sacked, and fumbled. Another play he had all the time in the world, maybe 8-9 seconds in the pocket......then threw an incompletion.
