49ers vs. Bears (1 Viewer)

Gore vs Barlow is the story of this game (and pre-season for San Fran!)

OK, Smith's develoment matters just a tad too.

I still think Brian Griese ends up starter in Chicago by week 5 too, but can't back that up with anything other than an injured Grossman bone.

Smith looks much more ready to at least handle the basics, but has a loooong way to go, maybe Dilfer is helping him this summer where Rattay was too worried about his job last year. ** Alex smith hooked up with Antonio bryant and Arnaz Battle so far, smith is at least mobile.** The Bears have barely a yard on the ground it seems, and they are sloppy just fumbled for a returned TD** Grossman looks good throwing but he really panics under pressure and should have had an INT I dont want to get excited about the 49ers as they are putting a ton of emphasis on this game, per coach Nolan, and they also won their season opener last year,it didnt mean they were going to be any good.

Gore - 3 for 13, long of 5

Barlow - 1 for 2

Good to see we'll get to the bottom of which is the starter.

come on folks, use the Detroit game thread as your blueprint.

Yards...comments and critique on the RB's.....gutt feeling about who is showing up and who isn't?

Grossman's mechanics look brutal, and he's forcing the ball...

Olin Kreutz stayed in Chicago as he was ill, and backup center Lenny Friedman f'd up a snap to Grossman, which got taken to the house for the game's lone TD.

Bradley's fumble set up the initial field goal.

I know it's only preseason, but the Niners QB is looking better than Grossman.

Nate Vasher got banged up annihilating Kevan Barlow on a dump off pass. He just got the wind knocked out of him.. he's fine.

Gore is acting as a safety valve for Smith, dump off passes are somewhat effective with guards pulling and him catching underneath. The commenetators calling Gore "impressive" which he seems to be. He just never has much daylight to run. I havent even see Barlow take a carry yet, i must have missed it.

Break up the 49'ers juggernaut!

Can anyone comment on these incomplete passes Alex is throwing. Are they bad throws?
he missed a wide open eric johnson (i believe) by quite a bit. Smith looks alot more confident and fluid though

Channel 5. NBC.

Only thing is... isn't the bears second string in right now while Gore is racking it up?? May need to temper the enthusiasm a bit.

Quick hits:

- Alex Smith looks like an NFL QB. He's mobile, he's finding secondary options, and he's making most of the throws.

- Antonio Bryant is the WR1 here, which shouldn't be a surprise. He's made several catches already. 1,000 yards will be a piece of cake if they play like this in the regular season.

- Arnaz Battle is the WR2. Brian Gilmore is the WR3.

- Barlow started, but Gore is getting most of the work with the first team. He looks solid, but not spectacular.

- Vernon Davis appears to be the starter.

- The Bears look horrible on offense. They're getting no push in the running game and Grossman looks pretty bad.

Alex Smith is having a great game, and so is Gore. Smith looks comfortable out there and is making good decisions, he's mobile and pretty accurate.

Bears offense looks awful. They are having a hard time running the ball against the 49ers starting defense. I wouldn't look at anyone on the Bears fantasy wise other than their defense if this continues. Maybe Jones or Benson will have better success, but the Niners line has been spending alot of time in the Bears backfield. U-G-L-Y.

Smith is really impressing me. Norv Turner was a great acquisition for this team and he is obviously having an impact on the kid. He seems to have a connection with Antonio Bryant. Bryant = VALUE. Gore also looks good. Very quick on a screen pass that picked up some nice yardage.

One more game before I have to decide whether to keep Gore in my 4-man keeper. Yes...it IS that bad for my team in that league.

Gore is the real deal, injury free, he could break the top 10
He looks okay, but saying he could break the top 10 is hyperbole at this point. Gore's strength is his acceleration and speed. He's doing a nice job of getting behind his blockers and quickly moving it upfield. I won't go as far as saying he'll be a top 15 back, but he appears to be an important part of SF's offense. Of course, he has to stay healthy.

Bears starters were in up until this current possesion. Urlacher had made the last stop on Gore.

the reason I say that is because his chances of getting the extra receptions/dump offs. I might be over exaggerating it a bit though, my bad :lmao:

A) It's preseasonB) Eric Johnson started at TEC) It's preseasonKeep things in perspective. The Bears went 15-1 and won the Super Bowl, yet were 1-3 in the preseason.

:goodposting:You've got to love the Week 2 preseason overreactions on both fronts...

Hey Gore is looking good, end of story. The "top 10" talk is utter crap and mindless, but 5 YPC against the starters (until this possession) and another 5 catches for 30 + yds looks just fine to me.

I know it's only preseason, but anyone who watched the Niners play last year would recognize that the difference between tonight's performance and last year's games is like night and day. They actually look like a competitive professional team.

81 total yards and a TD.How much of that was against the starters and how is the Bears D looking compared to last year?

I'd say the last 15 yds rushing by Gore was against the back ups. The rest was starters. Does Chicago have a bad d...ever?

;)

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!

Key here is 5 receptions and 5 rushs including goal line. If this is the case in the regular season then he is a steal if you get points per catch.

Last year, the Niners offense was non-existant. I think they had 20 yards of total offense against the Bears.

The good news for Bears fans. The Niner's Offensive Coordinator from last year is now the Packers Head Coach. :)

Griese was 5-1 as a starter last year and just took the Bears down the field 4/5 81 yards and a TD, four different targets.

LET THE QB CONTROVERSY BEGIN!
