#5 Pick...What are my options? (1 Viewer)

TRR

Footballguy
We just drew for draft order, was wondering if has been a clear cut "Top 5"....I know I was hoping for a top 3 pick, and with a 12 man snake draft, I am thinking #5 might be about the worst spot for this draft.

depends in part on your scoring system (especially if it's a ppr reception league), but brown, williams, or jackson would be good choices. i'd probably lean toward brown, too.

I love Brown. But he's still got some question marks. I would take Jackson and number 5, and either handcuff him or get a solid 3rd or 4th back depending on how many your league starts. I wouldnt take Caddy here as I see him as an equal injury risk to Jackson, with less production. In PPR leagues especially, since Jackson and Brown are MUCH better recievers than Caddy. Not to mention Jackson looked amazing in the first preseason game. Even though its preseason, you can tell he's got what it takes to to be a top 3 RB eventually, replacing either Tomlinson, Alexander, or Johnson at some point. Injuries are my ONLY concern with Jackson. And, St. louis is a great place for RBs. Better than Miami by a slight margin, and definitely better than T, mostly because Gruden really likes to work (overwork) his backs.

Not that it means anything at all, but Im predicting Jackson finishes the season a head of either Tomlinson, Alexander, or Johnson by seasons end. As long as he can stay on the field, and take care of his achilles.

If Portis is there (very good chance he is now with the injury) jump on him w/o a second thought. If not, I like Brown at that spot too.

If it's a PPR, should Tiki fall to you, that's my guy. I happen to be in one that is a rookie keeper as well. Since I have Caddy (Round 3 pick), I will be in better shape than most. Brown is going to be kept as well.

With concerns about Portis, Jackson is my #2, irreguardless of PPR. Rudi deserves consideration as well, if not a PPR, given health of Cris Perry and uncertainty of Palmer to begin the year.

While I find round 2 to be the tougher decision-RB or WR? Pick #5 is not easy to start out of, yet may find Bush available in the 2nd.

I'm thinking to trade down...as I would be happy with any of the guys you mentioned.

With the portis injury and the people running our favorite site are all down on him now...it makes Number 5 look horendous with us taking one of the next 5 who everyone project about the same...

I would want Portis. He fell all the way to #8 in our 12 teamer yesterday, so maybe you could trade down a couple of spots.

I would take a gamble on Steven Jackson, personally, I think the guy is the 5th best back in the league. He had shades of greatness last year but I think he will have a top 5 year this year if he stays healthy. You figure, the guy is killer, he's young, he's hungry, etc. I think he's got all the makings of great back with D's keying on Bulger.

Just my 2 cents.

Your best option is to grab your ankles.

I just finished my first draft last night and picked from the #5 spot in a 12-team league. As expected, the top 4 picks were LJ, Tomlinson, Alexander and Tiki. The league is not PPR. I don't have time right now to post the whole draft (hopefully tonight), but my first three picks were Rudi, Holt and Gates. I really didn't like any of the RB coming back in round 2, figuring I could grab one of equal caliber in round 3 but then couldn't pass up Gates at 3.05.

I'll post the entire draft later so you can see how it all turned out.

Here are the results of my draft last night with some background information. Yahoo league, 12 teams, 17 rounds, start 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/1WR-RB/1K/1DEF (7 bench spots). Scoring is 1/25 pass, 1/10 rush/rec, 6pts/TD, no PPR.

This was my first draft of the season, and typically I like to use Yahoo drafts as a way to get a rough idea of how things might go during the draft of my main league. I know, it's a Yahoo league, but surprisingly last night people weren't completely wacko. My main league has a few people that know what they're doing and a few that don't, with everyone else in between. Some of you may find this useful, some may see 'Yahoo' and skip right on by....

I had the 5th spot and wasn't particularly thrilled about it. Before the injury to Portis, I would have been happy to take Tiki in this spot but now I really don't have a good feel for how the Washington running game is going to play out this year. I decided to avoid the whole mess if it turned out that way. It may end up being a bad decision, but hey - it's a free Yahoo league. :D

Round 1

1.01 Larry Johnson, RB

1.02 LaDanian Tomlinson, RB

1.03 Shawn Alexander, RB

1.04 Tiki Barber, RB

1.05 Great.....just what I figured would happen. I'm not totally sold on Ronnie Brown this year, and Steven Jackson doesn't particularly thrill me either. So many running backs...so many questions.....so I went with Rudi Johnson. I know the Bengals schedule is tough this year, but with Chris Perry nowhere to be seen, Rudi's the man in Cincy this year with no competition. The last two years he's been a steady performer, and that's what I want with my first round pick.

1.06 Edgerrin James, RB

1.07 Peyton Manning, QB

1.08 Clinton Portis, RB

1.09 Ronnie Brown, RB

1.10 Steve Smith, WR

1.11 Lamont Jordan, RB

1.12 Steven Jackson, RB

Round 2

2.01 Reggie Bush, RB

2.02 Carnell Williams, RB

2.03 Chad Johnson, WR

2.04 Julius Jones, RB

2.05 Larry Fitzgerald, WR

2.06 Terrell Owens, WR

2.07 Willis McGahee, RB

2.08 None of the available RB really stand out, and I figure I can get one coming back in the 3rd. I'll take a good WR here...Torry Holt. To me, it was between Holt and Harrison with little difference between them...could have flipped a coin and been happy with either.

2.09 Marvin Harrison, WR

2.10 Brian Westbrook, RB

2.11 Warrick Dunn, RB (I really thought he would slip to me in the 3rd)

2.12 Anquan Boldin, WR

Round 3

3.01 Reuben Droughns, RB

3.02 Santana Moss, WR

3.03 Willie Parker, RB (see: Warrick Dunn)

3.04 Kevin Jones, RB

3.05 Now I really want to puke. I would have been happy with Westbrook, Dunn or Parker here and they're all gone. :wall: I just can't see taking a RB here since the ones left all have big question marks and I don't feel like guessing yet. I could continue with the 'big' WR and take Randy Moss...and I really thought about it....but in the end, I went with Antonio Gates. I just couldn't pass him up at 3.05. If he performs like I think he will this year, it might not turn out too badly.

3.06 Matt Hasselbeck, QB

3.07 Randy Moss, WR

3.08 Domanick Davis, RB

3.09 DeShaun Foster, RB

3.10 Carson Palmer, QB

3.11 Eli Manning, QB

3.12 Tom Brady, QB

Round 4

4.01 Chris Chambers, WR

4.02 Plaxico Burress, WR

4.03 Jamal Lewis, RB

4.04 Javon Walker, WR

4.05 Hines Ward, WR

4.06 Corey Dillon, RB

4.07 Reggie Wayne, WR

4.08 OK, I really need a RB2 at this point. I still see Donald Driver sitting there but I'm gambling that people will continue to forget about him and he'll get back to me in the next round. Looking over the list of available RB, I take a chance on Chester Taylor and him making the most of his opportunity to start in Minnesota.

4.09 Roy Williams, WR

4.10 Darrell Jackson, WR

4.11 Joe Horn, WR

4.12 Deuce McAllister, RB

Round 5

5.01 Daunte Culpepper, QB

5.02 Donovan McNabb, QB

5.03 Joey Galloway, WR

5.04 TJ Houshmandzadeh, WR

5.05 Sometimes things work out, and I take Donald Driver. No way he's making it back to me in the 6th.

5.06 Dominic Rhodes, RB

5.07 Andre Johnson, WR

5.08 Jeremy Shockey, TE

5.09 Tony Gonzalez, TE

5.10 Todd Heap, TE

5.11 Rod Smith, WR

5.12 Tatum Bell, RB

Round 6

6.01 Carolina, D/ST

6.02 Keyshawn Johnson, WR

6.03 Ahman Green, RB

6.04 Marc Bulger, QB

6.05 Joseph Addai, RB

6.06 Chicago, D/ST

6.07 Heath Miller, TE

6.08 Probably should have gone RB here but as it turns out, only Fred Taylor was taken between this pick and my next one. Not sure if this was a reach here but I think he's got a shot at a really good year now with McNair. My choice is Derrick Mason.

6.09 Fred Taylor, RB

6.10 Deion Branch, WR

6.11 Alge Crumpler, TE

6.12 Nate Burleson, WR

Round 7

7.01 Donte Stallworth, WR

7.02 Lee Evans, WR

7.03 Trent Green, QB

7.04 Randy McMichael, TE

7.05 I'm not really sure how he lasted this long, and I'm not big on Cedric Benson this year. I know the Bears paid Benson a lot of $$ but I just think Thomas Jones is the better RB.

7.06 Mushin Muhammad, WR

7.07 Cedric Benson, RB

7.08 Jake Delhomme, QB

7.09 Drew Bennett, WR

7.10 Michael Vick, QB

7.11 Jason Witten, TE

7.12 Jake Plummer, QB

Round 8

8.01 Adam Vinatieri, K

8.02 Lawrence Maroney, RB

8.03 Baltimore, D/ST

8.04 Lendale White, RB

8.05 Keenan McCardell, WR

8.06 LJ Smith, TE

8.07 Santonio Holmes, WR

8.08 How long can I wait for a QB? Apparently another round, it seems....with the news that Kevan Barlow had been traded to the Jets, I figured Frank Gore would be a good pickup here. He is a starting RB, even if it's for the 49ers. Looking back, I think Mike Bell would have been a better play here since 'Denver RB' is a good one to have and the 8th round offers little risk.

8.09 Mike Bell, RB (currently starting RB for Denver? 8th round? Where was I? Oh yeah, drafting a 49ER :wall: )

8.10 Chris Cooley, TE

8.11 DeAngelo Williams, RB (I actually like him this year when Foster goes down with the inevitable injury)

8.12 Greg Jones, RB

Round 9

9.01 Eddie Kennison, WR

9.02 Kevan Barlow, RB

9.03 Isaac Bruce, WR

9.04 Eric Moulds, WR

9.05 I guess I can take one at this point....let's see if QBBC works out for me in this draft. I'll start with the most likely to put up good numbers early and the most likely to get hurt in a stiff breeze: Kurt Warner.

9.06 New York Giants, D/ST

9.07 Ben Roethlisberger, QB

9.08 Neil Rackers, K

9.09 Pittsburgh, D/ST

9.10 Michael Clayton, WR

9.11 Chris Brown, RB

9.12 Marion Barber III, RB

Round 10

10.01 Ben Watson, TE

10.02 Mike Vanderjagt, K

10.03 Byron Leftwich, QB

10.04 Matt Jones, WR

10.05 Indianapolis, D/ST

10.06 Laveranues Coles, WR

10.07 Drew Bledsoe, QB

10.08 Donovan McNabb has to throw to somebody, right? Right? Almost went with Terry Glenn here as I'm not completely sure if TO is going to have a complete meltdown before the season even starts, but I decided to take Reggie Brown instead.

10.09 Steve McNair, QB

10.10 Mark Brunell, QB

10.11 Antonio Bryant, WR

10.12 Drew Brees, QB

Round 11

11.01 David Givens, WR

11.02 Miami, D/ST

11.03 Jerramy Stevens, TE

11.04 Braylon Edwards, WR

11.05 QBBC continues to pick up steam with Brett Favre. He can't possibly throw a billion interceptions again this year, can he? Passed on Terry Glenn again for absolutely no good reason that I can think of at this point.

11.06 Josh Brown, K

11.07 Tampa Bay, D/ST

11.08 Terry Glenn, WR

11.09 Jay Feely, K

11.10 Jerry Porter, WR

11.11 Seattle, D/ST

11.12 Michael Jenkins, WR

Round 12

12.01 Samie Parker, WR

12.02 Amani Toomer, WR

12.03 Antwaan Randle El, WR

12.04 Ernest Wilford, WR

12.05 Ron Dayne, RB

12.06 David Akers, K

12.07 Dallas Clark, TE

12.08 Yeah, I know, there's still five rounds left, so what am I doing taking a kicker? The four teams coming after me in this round haven't taken one yet, so I figure they will in the next eight picks before I get to choose again. Besides, Jason Elam is one of the most consistent kickers from year to year and I have to justify this pick somehow.

12.09 Lawrence Tynes, K (See, I told you!)

12.10 John Kasay, K (I'm right x2!)

12.11 Troy Williamson, WR

12.12 Ben Troupe, TE

Round 13

13.01 Mike Anderson, RB (How's that kicker look now, genius? Great value here)

13.02 Jerious Norwood, RB

13.03 Denver, D/ST

13.04 Kansas City, D/ST

13.05 How much value can I get here? He's only the 21st QB taken in this draft, he plays for Da Raidaaahs and he always has a smile on his face. Gotta love Aaron Brooks to complete the QBBC. Chase, you'd better be right!

13.06 Jeff Reed, K

13.07 Mike Alstott, RB

13.08 Kevin Curtis, WR

13.09 Philip Rivers, QB

13.10 Philadelphia, D/ST

13.11 Samkon Gado, RB (7 rounds after Green? Seeing as how only one QB went after my Brooks pick, and I would have been happy with Rivers instead.... :bag: )

13.12 Jacksonville, D/ST

Round 14

14.01 Chris Perry, RB

14.02 Brandon Lloyd, WR

14.03 Kellen Winslow II, TE

14.04 Atlanta, D/ST

14.05 Joe Jurevicius, WR

14.06 Vernon Davis, TE

14.07 Dallas, D/ST

14.08 Maybe I should think about a defense, only have four rounds left. The Miami/NE combo isn't going to happen so let's try to get the second one on the list. I'll take Detroit but I don't have to like it.

14.09 Ladell Betts, RB

14.10 Cedric Houston, RB

14.11 Vernand Morency, RB (another great value slips by me as I'm taking a defense...can you tell it's my first draft of the year? It can only get better from here...)

14.12 Shayne Graham, K

Round 15

15.01 Cincinnati, D/ST

15.02 Michael Turner, RB (great handcuff by the LT owner)

15.03 New England, D/ST

15.04 Washington, D/ST

15.05 Why would I take a backup defense? Normally I play the waiver wire for matchups each week, but since there's a max roster move requirement in this league, I'd rather burn a 15th round draft pick than waste one (or more) of my roster moves later on. Oh yeah, I took the New York Jets.

15.06 Marty Booker, WR

15.07 Brandon Stokley, WR

15.08 Brad Johnson, QB

15.09 Bobby Engram, WR

15.10 Sebastian Janikowski, K

15.11 Chad Pennington, QB

15.12 Nate Kaedking, K

Round 16

16.01 Duce Staley, RB (If Fast Willie goes down....)

16.02 Mercedes Lewis, TE

16.03 David Carr, QB

16.04 Billy Volek, QB

16.05 Ryan Longwell, K

16.06 Vince Young, QB

16.07 TJ Duckett, RB

16.08 Remember that max roster moves requirement? Gates has his bye in week 3, so I'll burn a draft choice now and pick up the hot waiver wire guy in week 4 rather than guess who it's going to be. I didn't even check the schedule to see who the Vikings are playing in week 3 - turns out it's Chicago. AWESOME. At least they're at home where Jermaine Wiggins might do something....not sucky.

16.09 Jon Kitna, QB

16.10 Jeff Wilkins, K

16.11 Ashley Lelie, WR

16.12 San Diego, D/ST

Round 17

17.01 Matt Stover, K

17.02 Rian Lindell, K

17.03 Chris Simms, QB

17.04 Derrick Blaylock, RB

17.05 Jason Hanson. See: max roster moves; see also: Jason Elam, bye week 4.

17.06 Keary Colbert, WR

17.07 Matt Leinart, QB

17.08 Minnesota, D/ST

17.09 Joe Klopfenstein, TE (I actually had to look this guy up, had no idea who he was)

17.10 Mewelde Moore, RB

17.11 Buffalo, D/ST

17.12 Roddy White, WR

Wow, I write a lot.

Final analysis:

QB: My QBs have the incredible potential to hit the trifecta of injury, retirement and benching. If they stay healthy, I got good value. If not..... :X

RB: I don't even know what to say. I'm not all that happy about them but I think Gore was a good pickup in the 8th and if Jones can hold onto the starting job in Chicago.....

WR: I actually like my WR, which is a new feeling for me. Normally I sluff off WR and end up working the waiver wire to find someone good, but I'm happy to have a top WR in Holt, great value in Driver and I expect Mason to be good even if I did reach a little.

TE:

K: Does it matter?

DEF: See above.

This certainly won't be the last Yahoo draft I do as I get ready for my main league, but I sure do hope I do a little better in the next few. I've got until the weekend to do this for real....I'm going to need every bit of time to get ready.

11.12 Michael Jenkins, WR

Round 12

12.01 Samie Parker, WR

12.02 Amani Toomer, WR

12.03 Antwaan Randle El, WR

12.04 Ernest Wilford, WR

12.05 Ron Dayne, RB

12.06 David Akers, K

12.07 Dallas Clark, TE

12.08 Yeah, I know, there's still five rounds left, so what am I doing taking a kicker? The four teams coming after me in this round haven't taken one yet, so I figure they will in the next eight picks before I get to choose again. Besides, Jason Elam is one of the most consistent kickers from year to year and I have to justify this pick somehow.

12.09 Lawrence Tynes, K (See, I told you!)

12.10 John Kasay, K (I'm right x2!)

12.11 Troy Williamson, WR

12.12 Ben Troupe, TE

Round 13

13.01 Mike Anderson, RB (How's that kicker look now, genius? Great value here)

13.02 Jerious Norwood, RB

13.03 Denver, D/ST

13.04 Kansas City, D/ST

13.05 How much value can I get here? He's only the 21st QB taken in this draft, he plays for Da Raidaaahs and he always has a smile on his face. Gotta love Aaron Brooks to complete the QBBC. Chase, you'd better be right!

13.06 Jeff Reed, K

13.07 Mike Alstott, RB

13.08 Kevin Curtis, WR

13.09 Philip Rivers, QB

13.10 Philadelphia, D/ST

13.11 Samkon Gado, RB (7 rounds after Green? Seeing as how only one QB went after my Brooks pick, and I would have been happy with Rivers instead.... :bag: )

13.12 Jacksonville, D/ST

Round 14

14.01 Chris Perry, RB

14.02 Brandon Lloyd, WR

14.03 Kellen Winslow II, TE

14.04 Atlanta, D/ST

14.05 Joe Jurevicius, WR

14.06 Vernon Davis, TE

14.07 Dallas, D/ST

14.08 Maybe I should think about a defense, only have four rounds left. The Miami/NE combo isn't going to happen so let's try to get the second one on the list. I'll take Detroit but I don't have to like it.

14.09 Ladell Betts, RB

14.10 Cedric Houston, RB

14.11 Vernand Morency, RB (another great value slips by me as I'm taking a defense...can you tell it's my first draft of the year? It can only get better from here...)

14.12 Shayne Graham, K

Round 15

15.01 Cincinnati, D/ST

15.02 Michael Turner, RB (great handcuff by the LT owner)

15.03 New England, D/ST

15.04 Washington, D/ST

15.05 Why would I take a backup defense? Normally I play the waiver wire for matchups each week, but since there's a max roster move requirement in this league, I'd rather burn a 15th round draft pick than waste one (or more) of my roster moves later on. Oh yeah, I took the New York Jets.

15.06 Marty Booker, WR

15.07 Brandon Stokley, WR

15.08 Brad Johnson, QB

15.09 Bobby Engram, WR

15.10 Sebastian Janikowski, K

15.11 Chad Pennington, QB

15.12 Nate Kaedking, K

Round 16

16.01 Duce Staley, RB (If Fast Willie goes down....)

16.02 Mercedes Lewis, TE

16.03 David Carr, QB

16.04 Billy Volek, QB

16.05 Ryan Longwell, K

16.06 Vince Young, QB

16.07 TJ Duckett, RB

16.08 Remember that max roster moves requirement? Gates has his bye in week 3, so I'll burn a draft choice now and pick up the hot waiver wire guy in week 4 rather than guess who it's going to be. I didn't even check the schedule to see who the Vikings are playing in week 3 - turns out it's Chicago. AWESOME. At least they're at home where Jermaine Wiggins might do something....not sucky.

16.09 Jon Kitna, QB

16.10 Jeff Wilkins, K

16.11 Ashley Lelie, WR

16.12 San Diego, D/ST

Round 17

17.01 Matt Stover, K

17.02 Rian Lindell, K

17.03 Chris Simms, QB

17.04 Derrick Blaylock, RB

17.05 Jason Hanson. See: max roster moves; see also: Jason Elam, bye week 4.

17.06 Keary Colbert, WR

17.07 Matt Leinart, QB

17.08 Minnesota, D/ST

17.09 Joe Klopfenstein, TE (I actually had to look this guy up, had no idea who he was)

17.10 Mewelde Moore, RB

17.11 Buffalo, D/ST

17.12 Roddy White, WR

Wow, I write a lot.

Final analysis:

QB: My QBs have the incredible potential to hit the trifecta of injury, retirement and benching. If they stay healthy, I got good value. If not..... :X

RB: I don't even know what to say. I'm not all that happy about them but I think Gore was a good pickup in the 8th and if Jones can hold onto the starting job in Chicago.....

WR: I actually like my WR, which is a new feeling for me. Normally I sluff off WR and end up working the waiver wire to find someone good, but I'm happy to have a top WR in Holt, great value in Driver and I expect Mason to be good even if I did reach a little.

TE:

K: Does it matter?

DEF: See above.

This certainly won't be the last Yahoo draft I do as I get ready for my main league, but I sure do hope I do a little better in the next few. I've got until the weekend to do this for real....I'm going to need every bit of time to get ready.
That was one of the most entertaining and informative draft commentaries I've read - even laughed out loud a few times! Let those who have never pounded their head against the wall of the draft room make the first criticisms!Give me Gates in round 3 any day!

:goodposting:

Here are the results of my draft last night with some background information. Yahoo league, 12 teams, 17 rounds, start 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/1WR-RB/1K/1DEF (7 bench spots). Scoring is 1/25 pass, 1/10 rush/rec, 6pts/TD, no PPR.

This was my first draft of the season, and typically I like to use Yahoo drafts as a way to get a rough idea of how things might go during the draft of my main league. I know, it's a Yahoo league, but surprisingly last night people weren't completely wacko. My main league has a few people that know what they're doing and a few that don't, with everyone else in between. Some of you may find this useful, some may see 'Yahoo' and skip right on by....

I had the 5th spot and wasn't particularly thrilled about it. Before the injury to Portis, I would have been happy to take Tiki in this spot but now I really don't have a good feel for how the Washington running game is going to play out this year. I decided to avoid the whole mess if it turned out that way. It may end up being a bad decision, but hey - it's a free Yahoo league. :D

Round 1

1.01 Larry Johnson, RB

1.02 LaDanian Tomlinson, RB

1.03 Shawn Alexander, RB

1.04 Tiki Barber, RB

1.05 Great.....just what I figured would happen. I'm not totally sold on Ronnie Brown this year, and Steven Jackson doesn't particularly thrill me either. So many running backs...so many questions.....so I went with Rudi Johnson. I know the Bengals schedule is tough this year, but with Chris Perry nowhere to be seen, Rudi's the man in Cincy this year with no competition. The last two years he's been a steady performer, and that's what I want with my first round pick.

1.06 Edgerrin James, RB

1.07 Peyton Manning, QB

1.08 Clinton Portis, RB

1.09 Ronnie Brown, RB

1.10 Steve Smith, WR

1.11 Lamont Jordan, RB

1.12 Steven Jackson, RB

Round 2

2.01 Reggie Bush, RB

2.02 Carnell Williams, RB

2.03 Chad Johnson, WR

2.04 Julius Jones, RB

2.05 Larry Fitzgerald, WR

2.06 Terrell Owens, WR

2.07 Willis McGahee, RB

2.08 None of the available RB really stand out, and I figure I can get one coming back in the 3rd. I'll take a good WR here...Torry Holt. To me, it was between Holt and Harrison with little difference between them...could have flipped a coin and been happy with either.

2.09 Marvin Harrison, WR

2.10 Brian Westbrook, RB

2.11 Warrick Dunn, RB (I really thought he would slip to me in the 3rd)

2.12 Anquan Boldin, WR

Round 3

3.01 Reuben Droughns, RB

3.02 Santana Moss, WR

3.03 Willie Parker, RB (see: Warrick Dunn)

3.04 Kevin Jones, RB

3.05 Now I really want to puke. I would have been happy with Westbrook, Dunn or Parker here and they're all gone. :wall: I just can't see taking a RB here since the ones left all have big question marks and I don't feel like guessing yet. I could continue with the 'big' WR and take Randy Moss...and I really thought about it....but in the end, I went with Antonio Gates. I just couldn't pass him up at 3.05. If he performs like I think he will this year, it might not turn out too badly.

3.06 Matt Hasselbeck, QB

3.07 Randy Moss, WR

3.08 Domanick Davis, RB

3.09 DeShaun Foster, RB

3.10 Carson Palmer, QB

3.11 Eli Manning, QB

3.12 Tom Brady, QB

Round 4

4.01 Chris Chambers, WR

4.02 Plaxico Burress, WR

4.03 Jamal Lewis, RB

4.04 Javon Walker, WR

4.05 Hines Ward, WR

4.06 Corey Dillon, RB

4.07 Reggie Wayne, WR

4.08 OK, I really need a RB2 at this point. I still see Donald Driver sitting there but I'm gambling that people will continue to forget about him and he'll get back to me in the next round. Looking over the list of available RB, I take a chance on Chester Taylor and him making the most of his opportunity to start in Minnesota.

4.09 Roy Williams, WR

4.10 Darrell Jackson, WR

4.11 Joe Horn, WR

4.12 Deuce McAllister, RB

Round 5

5.01 Daunte Culpepper, QB

5.02 Donovan McNabb, QB

5.03 Joey Galloway, WR

5.04 TJ Houshmandzadeh, WR

5.05 Sometimes things work out, and I take Donald Driver. No way he's making it back to me in the 6th.

5.06 Dominic Rhodes, RB

5.07 Andre Johnson, WR

5.08 Jeremy Shockey, TE

5.09 Tony Gonzalez, TE

5.10 Todd Heap, TE

5.11 Rod Smith, WR

5.12 Tatum Bell, RB

Round 6

6.01 Carolina, D/ST

6.02 Keyshawn Johnson, WR

6.03 Ahman Green, RB

6.04 Marc Bulger, QB

6.05 Joseph Addai, RB

6.06 Chicago, D/ST

6.07 Heath Miller, TE

6.08 Probably should have gone RB here but as it turns out, only Fred Taylor was taken between this pick and my next one. Not sure if this was a reach here but I think he's got a shot at a really good year now with McNair. My choice is Derrick Mason.

6.09 Fred Taylor, RB

6.10 Deion Branch, WR

6.11 Alge Crumpler, TE

6.12 Nate Burleson, WR

Round 7

7.01 Donte Stallworth, WR

7.02 Lee Evans, WR

7.03 Trent Green, QB

7.04 Randy McMichael, TE

7.05 I'm not really sure how he lasted this long, and I'm not big on Cedric Benson this year. I know the Bears paid Benson a lot of $$ but I just think Thomas Jones is the better RB.

7.06 Mushin Muhammad, WR

7.07 Cedric Benson, RB

7.08 Jake Delhomme, QB

7.09 Drew Bennett, WR

7.10 Michael Vick, QB

7.11 Jason Witten, TE

7.12 Jake Plummer, QB

Round 8

8.01 Adam Vinatieri, K

8.02 Lawrence Maroney, RB

8.03 Baltimore, D/ST

8.04 Lendale White, RB

8.05 Keenan McCardell, WR

8.06 LJ Smith, TE

8.07 Santonio Holmes, WR

8.08 How long can I wait for a QB? Apparently another round, it seems....with the news that Kevan Barlow had been traded to the Jets, I figured Frank Gore would be a good pickup here. He is a starting RB, even if it's for the 49ers. Looking back, I think Mike Bell would have been a better play here since 'Denver RB' is a good one to have and the 8th round offers little risk.

8.09 Mike Bell, RB (currently starting RB for Denver? 8th round? Where was I? Oh yeah, drafting a 49ER :wall: )

8.10 Chris Cooley, TE

8.11 DeAngelo Williams, RB (I actually like him this year when Foster goes down with the inevitable injury)

8.12 Greg Jones, RB

Round 9

9.01 Eddie Kennison, WR

9.02 Kevan Barlow, RB

9.03 Isaac Bruce, WR

9.04 Eric Moulds, WR

9.05 I guess I can take one at this point....let's see if QBBC works out for me in this draft. I'll start with the most likely to put up good numbers early and the most likely to get hurt in a stiff breeze: Kurt Warner.

9.06 New York Giants, D/ST

9.07 Ben Roethlisberger, QB

9.08 Neil Rackers, K

9.09 Pittsburgh, D/ST

9.10 Michael Clayton, WR

9.11 Chris Brown, RB

9.12 Marion Barber III, RB

Round 10

10.01 Ben Watson, TE

10.02 Mike Vanderjagt, K

10.03 Byron Leftwich, QB

10.04 Matt Jones, WR

10.05 Indianapolis, D/ST

10.06 Laveranues Coles, WR

10.07 Drew Bledsoe, QB

10.08 Donovan McNabb has to throw to somebody, right? Right? Almost went with Terry Glenn here as I'm not completely sure if TO is going to have a complete meltdown before the season even starts, but I decided to take Reggie Brown instead.

10.09 Steve McNair, QB

10.10 Mark Brunell, QB

10.11 Antonio Bryant, WR

10.12 Drew Brees, QB

Round 11

11.01 David Givens, WR

11.02 Miami, D/ST

11.03 Jerramy Stevens, TE

11.04 Braylon Edwards, WR

11.05 QBBC continues to pick up steam with Brett Favre. He can't possibly throw a billion interceptions again this year, can he? Passed on Terry Glenn again for absolutely no good reason that I can think of at this point.

11.06 Josh Brown, K

11.07 Tampa Bay, D/ST

11.08 Terry Glenn, WR

11.09 Jay Feely, K

11.10 Jerry Porter, WR

11.11 Seattle, D/ST

11.12 Michael Jenkins, WR

Round 12

12.01 Samie Parker, WR

12.02 Amani Toomer, WR

12.03 Antwaan Randle El, WR

12.04 Ernest Wilford, WR

12.05 Ron Dayne, RB

12.06 David Akers, K

12.07 Dallas Clark, TE

12.11 Troy Williamson, WR

13.11 Samkon Gado, RB (7 rounds after Green? Seeing as how only one QB went after my Brooks pick, and I would have been happy with Rivers instead.... :bag: )

13.12 Jacksonville, D/ST

Round 14

14.01 Chris Perry, RB

14.02 Brandon Lloyd, WR

14.03 Kellen Winslow II, TE

Nice job on your draft. It reinforces to me the need to take a RB like Parker, or Westbrook in the 2nd round as they will be gone by the 3rd, even if they seem like a reach in the 2 round. I really like the Rudi pick, safe as it comes for a first round pick.

I think the key to your draft was getting chester in the 4th. If you didn't get him you would have been in trouble.

sorry for the hijack.

Great post, Zen Master. As the above poster mentioned, Taylor saved the day for you, and the Driver pick was enormous. Those two picks should guide your fate. Taking Gates in the third could have weakened you at RB/WR but you survived it. Ride Warner until he gets hurt, Farve until he bows out, and then Brooks until he gets benched. You won't win the superbowl without a qb but at least you have a good shot at the postseason!

I think he'll be kicking himself by mid September for not taking M. Bell in the 4th (vs. CT). Otherwise nice work all around - especially if T Jones can get and keep the job.

One thing I forgot to explain in better detail is the max roster moves. I meant to go back and add it in later but it was late and I just didn't get to it...

There is a max roster move limit of 17. Normally I play the waiver wire like crazy playing defensive matchups and things like that, but this little wrinkle forced me to do a couple of things I don't normally do like draft a backup K and TE. Since my main guys have early bye weeks, I figure I can drop the extra player after the bye week and pick up someone more useful.

For my first draft of the season, it wasn't too bad but I certainly see room for improvement. Thanks for your comments. I'll be sure to post results of any other drafts that I do. I expect there will be a few.

Wow. I hate your defenses, but I think you did well. I would have taken SJax at #5, but getting Reggie Brown in the 10th is an absolute STEAL.

Thanks. I've got another draft scheduled for tonight so we'll see how that one turns out. I'm really hoping to land a spot near the end of the draft (10-12) so I can see how a stud WR theory might work out. Again, it's a free Yahoo league so I don't really mind if I do something stupid as long as I learn something from it.
