6 points per passing TD format... (1 Viewer)

10 team, serpentine redraft. I have the 9th pick of draft. I just learned today that our league is changing the value of passing TD's to 6pts (not sure why, and not sure I like it either!). Prior to the change, I was set to go RB-WR or WR-RB with my first 2 picks. However, the change to 6pts for passing TD's has me rethinking this strategy.

Would it be a better strategy to grab a QB and WR with my first 2 picks? My thinking is this: everyone will now be scrambling to grab a QB early (2nd round), which will allow some of the borderline early 3rd round RB's to fall to me at the end of the 3rd round, resulting in some better value if I wait on RB. However, if I wait on WR, the drop off might be too significant.

So, would you rather have:

1. Brees/Andre Johnson/Pierre Thomas

2. LT/ Brees/ Jennings

Let me know if you think my player expectations are off-based for the 9th pick in a 10 teamer.

I started a slow draft from the 9 hole today (12 teams) PPR, 6pt passing TD's.

Brees was long gone before my pick... so was Brady. I ended up taking SJAX over LT after long deliberation. I've decided im gonna use a similar approach in this draft to the one I would use for 4pt td's and wait for my QB.

I highly doubt you are gonna get Brees AND LT2. But that's the combo I like best of the ones you listed.

I've been in a 2-protect league with 6-point TDs for QBs for the last 15 years or so. I cannot remember the last time that I took a QB in the first 2 rounds and I've won 4 of the last 7 years and made the final 9 of the last 11. Typically I've waited until the late 5th for QB without it hurting my team. Some year's I've lucked out and got a gem late (Rodgers last year) other times I've been able to use a committee approach to get the job done. Experience varies, but I've round good ol' RB/RB can still fine in this format.

I've been in a 6-point pass TD league for 9 years.

Guys who draft a QB in the first round almost never win titles. They are usually weak at RB and/or WR.

However, guys who wait real late for a QB almost never win titles either. If you're facing a top QB with a sub-top-12 QB, you need a lot of things to go right that week at your other positions.

You can't compete without good production from your QB. But you don't want to sacrifice depth at other positions too much either.

Taking your 1st QB sometime between the 3rd and 6th rounds usually works pretty well.

Thanks guys! My strategy has always been to wait on QB until rounds 5-6, but I wasn't sure if the increase to 6 pts per passing TD should affect that line of thinking. I guess I will hope for several QB's to be taken in the first before me, and allow a better RB option fall to me at pick 9, followed by a elite WR option on the turnaround (maybe an LT/Megatron combo?).
