600+ Billion. 600,000,000,000+ (1 Viewer)

I get that people don't enjoy having the curtain pulled back and the reality revealed behind the facade. But we must deal with what we have become. If you don't.like it don't get mad at.me get mad at the people making it happen. Get mad at the lazy Congress that is bought and paid to turn a blind eye. Get mad at the media that rah rahs the bloodshed. Do something to change it.

Saying these things makes me sad. I don't want to denigrate my country I want to be proud of it. Don't you? Let's change it and be proud for good reason.

this sort of hyperbole is where you lose me.   You had me with "let's stop wasting money when we don't need to."  Then you switched to the "OH MY GOD WE'RE THE WORST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!!!" bit.

Not every decision the military makes is a bad one, and people claim isolationism is bad too.   Maybe even you've made the claim.   Or is it ok when we give aid to these nations?
Using our military needs to be the absolute last option, and since I've been alive I feel like it's the first.

BTW I am.not blaming common soldiers or the military in general. I do have problems with some of the generals but the military is run by the civilian government. I am former military. I know the a lot of the rank and file aren't very happy with all of this as well. So please don't try to make this I hate our soldiers or something like that. Because I don't. In fact it's another place I am critical of our government. We haven't kept our promise to the men and women that have sacrificed for us and that needs to drastically change as well.

I think the difference is the speed at which you know about it.   Where is our military in Russia?  How about in North Korea?  Or are we not using it "first" there?

I'm not an isolationist. And I have no problem with economic aid.

I do have a problem when we sell weapons to a repressive regime to commit genocide. See Saudi Arabia versus Yemen. I do have a problem when we drop over 25000 bombs on a country that never did a thing to us. Killing a crap ton of civilians along the way. I do have a.problem when a war.of choice results in the deaths of 100000 civilians, minimum. I do have a problem when our drone program is a civilian killing machine by the militaries own admission. I do have a problem.when that same program is allowed to commit war crimes. I have a problem when a President kills an American citizen without so.much as a show trial. Then we kill his son. And now we've killed his daughter. All American citizens all dead with no due process. I can go further back in history if you'd like. We can talk about the brutal dictators we set up and kept in power. You know like.the Shah and Saddam.

We aren't the good guys the way we play the game now.
Economic aid to these countries was our first problem...then it was something we wanted to defend, then we ended up involved.

Anyway, if you don't think it's hyperbole to call me an accessory because I pay taxes, then I can't help you.

I actually called both of us an accessory. Unwilling perhaps but just the same. And we have the power to change that reality. Or we can pretend it doesn't exist and keep the killing machine rolling. Our choice.

I will definitely concur with that.  I want a MUCH smaller military.  We don't have to vilify the whole organization to justify that position, though.
Luckily then I didn't.

I villified the actions the civilian government ordered them.to do. I villified the civilian government for weapons sales. This isn't about the military at the personnel level as I thought I made clear in an earlier post. Although we have proof that there are those in that group that deserve it. But as a whole those that serve do so with honorable intent and actions. Airmen don't decide who to bomb. Infantry doesn't decide who to shoot at. They follow orders. Given by civilian authorities. And most would rather be home than doing either.

So again this isn't about those who have served. It is about the people running the show and our acquiesce to their murder for profit schemes.

But a little more kicking and screaming with a few more hyperboles would help.

And now I find myself in agreement with Duncan Hunter. Who agrees that cutting the Coast Guard budget by 15℅ to pay for the stupid wall is nonsense. It completely ignores the reality that our security is not all wrapped up in a wall partially along one border.

With you on this one Duncan.
