610 WIP reporting that (1 Viewer)

Deranged Hermit

Not cool & Pissed
Just a FYI, Howard Eskin (610 WIP reporter) is reporting that the Eagles came to a contract agreement with Javon Walker on Saturday. Denver trumped their plans, of course, by offering a higher second rounder than the Eagles could.

i can't imagine anyone is shocked by this

philly knew the broncos were at #37 amd had plenty of time to trade up or down in order to acquire a pick ahead of that one and still accomplish their other draft day goals (improving both lines)

at least reid thinks those wideouts can will a super bowl...because nobody else does

He obviously doesn't think so. Like I said, they had an agreement in place with Walker, just not GB. Heck, same thing happened with Owens if I remember correctly.

Guess they should have been more concerned with reaching an agreement with Green Bay rather than Walker since they're the one's who owned his righs.

:goodposting: i loved the eagles draft, but javon walker could be the differnece between a chance at the super bowl and a ho-hum 10-6 season. being a packer fan i can tell any concerned eagles fans...he's not a "TO type" guy. walker is a hard worker and will not be an issue for the broncos. you can't dismiss the ACL injury, but from all reports (and multiple team physicals) he's good to go this year

come playoff time (assuming the eagles make it again) they'll really regret not having another playmaker around mcnabb and westbrook

Again? They sucked last year. Their division got better. They come in last.

meaning they missed the playoffs last year after making it the past 4 or 5 years

They won't even finish in the top 2 of their division, you know that.

NFL games are still won in the trenches and the eagles have the best trench players within the division...when they make their way back to the playoffs (against other teams with great line play) they'll be unable to put enough points on the board to move on without a playmaker at WR or RB who can move the pile

Tell me what superstar WR's any of the recent Super Bowl champs have had? Ward, maybe? If Brown develops this year, between him and Westbrook they have enough receiving talent to win the Super Bowl.

 and I like the Eagles but in no way do they have enough receivng talent to win the Super Bowl. In some unimaginalbe way that they win the SB with the WR's they have right now, it won't be because of WR play, but it will be the defense playing at a ridicuolously high level. Philly is a WR away from being really dominant on offense like when they had T. Owens. I am pretty sure that Brown' s development this year will not be able to compensate the lack of depth they have at WR. Heck has Brown ever faced teams number one corners and defenses game planning for him? I like the Eagles and want them to succeed but they need a WR from somewhere.

 One of the most competitive divisions in football for sure, but the Eagles could EASILY win the division....or finish 4th. Right now I would say they're up against the Giants for the top spot, and if I had to make a bet I would say 9-7, 2nd in the East, and a wild card.

I thought Walker just had permission to take a physical for other teams and not negotiate a contract?I assume that the permission to seek a trade was legit then.

Of course not, there hasn't been an NFC wildcard team at 9-7 since 2004 (actually both were 8-8) and it has been just as long since a 6-10 finished 2nd in the NFC East

He had 287 attmps, 1157 yards, 4.0 ypc, 12 TDs. If I recall correctly, a lot of those TDs were at the goaline.

Not to let the truth get in the way of the facts, but the Packers wanted a 1st round pick from the Eagles, not a second. This goes in line what another poster said about the Pack wanting Walker out of the NFC.

BTW, the Eagles will finish at the top of the division no matter what anyone says here. Stop being a hater!

Which is why it was stupid on the Eagles part to be stubborn and not give TO a new contract. With the draft they just had and how weak the NFC really is imagine with TO how good this team would be for the nexty 3 years at least (of course Dallas would suck without TO....so take that into account). Given how well the Eagles manage their cap, sometimes you have to overpay someone like TO to get you the ring. These opportunities do not come a lot of times. And once you earn the ring, I bet you get enough $$$ in some way to recover that extra $$ you gave TO. Yes TO is an ###, but the Eagles clearly dropped the ball on this. All of the other issues (Mcnabb problems, fighting with other players etc) happened afterwards. If the contract had been re-negotiated to appease TO, the Eagles would be in the SB this upcomogn year, barring unforeseen injuries.

Remember Denver's 2nd (37) was pretty close to a 1st round pick

And of course we can all believe that Eskin is correct, cause you know, he's never wrong, just ask him.

All of this is just speculation. Nobody will ever know if GB would have traded Walker to Philly for ANY pick. Nobody will ever know if an actual agreement was in place between Walker and the Eagles. Even though it's after the draft, it would still be tipping of the hands by these GMs to release that info and neither one is going to do that.

I think the Eagles have to be considered one of the favorites to win the division again; they did really well in the draft upgrading their trench players and when it is all said in done, this will pay huge dividends.

1a Giants

1b Eagles

2 Cowboys

4 Redskins

Playoffs schmayoffs - almost half the league makes the playoffs. A title is what it's all about.

The more I read about the T.O. debacle, the less I think it was about the money. At the root of the problem was T.O. was just dead set on creating as many problems as he possibly could for his coaches and his teammates. The Eagles could have given T.O. a new contract but I believe it was unlikely that his behavior and intentions to annoy, bother and make a mockery out of the franchise would not have changed.

And I love T.O. the football player and T.O. the entertainer. I just accept him for what he is, "The best wide receiver in the game who approaches his job like an attentioned-starved nobody on reality TV."

You can't even begin to rank the NFC east right now.......You can argue every team can finish 1st or 4th in the Division. This offseason Philly did the least, but they get McNabb, Pinkson, Westbrook, etc... back healthy. Don't overlook them, and this division will come down to whatever team has the fewest injuries.

Probably true with the exception of the Redskins who I think lost more talent than they gained in the offseason. And I didn't think they had a lot of talent prior to the offseason.

Guess they should have been more concerned with reaching an agreement with Green Bay rather than Walker since they're the one's who owned his righs.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Eh, why bother? That's exactly how they stole TO from the Ravens (who had a deal with the team that owned his rights).NFC East is going to be highly competitive this year. The teams are all very closely matched -- just can't tell if they're all pretty good, or just a notch above average.

:goodposting: you can pretty much roll dice to pick that division this year....i can see every feasible 1-4 finish there being plausible....

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
a ho-hum 10-6 season ?Vegas odd makers have the Eagles finishing in last place.
