FCFL LEAGUE OVERVIEW:
League Setup:
86 teams across 6 conferences (14 teams per the Power 5 conferences, 16 teams in the MiD16).
Player eligibility:
Only players in their first 4 years are eligible (well potentially 5 but more on this later)... Rookies are freshmen, 2nd years are sophomores, 3rd years are juniors, and 4th years are seniors. So, Todd Gurley is walking at graduation in the coming weeks, OBJ graduated last spring, and Brees... yeah he graduated back in spring of 2004!
Who is in the league?
Mahomes is coming off a stellar sophomore season and is a rising junior. Saquon is hoping to avoid a sophomore slump. And, MT and Tyreek Hill are forgoing the draft and coming back for their senior seasons. And don't even get me started on this year's recruiting class. And then there is this year's recruiting class. There is a 5-star Dual Threat coming out of Norman, OK for a second straight season, a 5-star Pocket Passer from the recruiting hot bed of Columbus, OH, and an athletic freak from Oxford, MS that has FCFL scouts salivating.
Hey smart guy, this is a cool idea but how are there enough players in their first four years for 86 teams?
Fair question. There are 2 copies of each player in each conference (NOTE - you can't own both copies of a player). So for an example, there are 12 copies of Mahomes across the entire FCFL.
Uhmm in real college football a player can get a 5th year of eligibility via a redshirt, can you redshirt in this league?
Yes, redshirts and even medical redshirts exist in the FCFL. Further details on redshirts can be found in the by-laws at the end of this novel (apologies for my lack of brevity).
Starting Lineup:
1-QB, 1-RB, 1-WR, 1-RB/WR, 2-WR/TE
Rosters:
Teams have $1,000 in scholarship funds and can roster up to 20 total players.
NO TRADES OR WAIVERS mid-season. RECRUITING IS KING! So how does recruiting work?
Player copies are auctioned off in the recruiting windows:
JUCO Window - Players who weren't under scholarship at any school last season. There is a lot of chatter about Phillip Lindsay out of Denver Tech and James Conner out of Pittsburgh North Community College.
Transfer Window - Players cut from other schools and Restricted Transfers (see restricted transfer rules in full bylaws)
Freshman Signing Window - NEW RECRUITS! Early Signing window opens up May 1st. And the general signing opens August 1st.
League Schedule:
I mean it's college football... But for those not so familiar with the college game, teams will have a 12 week regular season schedule (9 conference games, plus 3 out of conference games). Oh and those out of conference games, you get to play the role of Athletic Director and set up as well. But choose wisely, your SoS (strength of schedule) factors into your FCFL SCORE (best believe we have our own ranking system, full details can be found in the by-laws). Just a suggestion - if you do decide to challenge the reigning National Champion Kansas State Wildcats, then I highly recommend following that game up by scheduling the University of Virginia to get yourself an easy win.
Week 13 is reserved for the conference championship (Each conference is split into two divisions similar to the college game).
Playoffs and Bowl Season. Weeks 14-16 are reserved for Playoffs and Bowl Season (more on this in a later section)
How do playoffs/payouts work?
Great question. The FCFL has an 8-team playoff, Mark Emmert you may want to start taking notes here, where the conference champion from each of the Power 5 conferences is guaranteed a spot, and the remaining 3 spots go to schools with the highest FCFL Score regardless of conference. Playoff seeding is determined by the FCFL Score.
For teams that don't make the playoffs don't worry, there is an FCFL Bowl Season. Bowls are separated into two major categories (Major Bowls, and Minor Bowls). Major Bowls are the (BCS or New Years 6 bowls), so you might have guessed it, there are 6 Major Bowls. And then there are the minor bowls, which are broken out into four tiers. Any team with a record above .500 is bowl eligible. For a full breakout of the payout structure please see the full by-laws attached below.
League Sounds cool, what is the cost?
$50 for a Power 5 school and $30 for a MiD16 school
What platforms/websites/apps are used/needed?
League is hosted and run on MFL (MyFantasyLeague), Communication happens via GroupMe (there is an all league and then a conference specific chat), and payments are handled via LeagueSafe.
Alright I'm convinced how do I join?
Take a look at the full by-laws and available positions attached below. If there is a school which you would be interested in leading, shoot me a message or leave a comment with the job you want, and I will be in touch.
Can I change one of the MiD16 schools to my alma mater or another college?
Conference realignment in the MiD16 is 100% permissible (the only exception to this rule is Navy and Army, we need that rivalry game).
