8th pick in H2H points league (1 Viewer)

Who do you take?

Not in love with any of the guys likely to be there.

Wanted to wait on 1B and 2B, but really the best options here appear to be Encarnacion or Cano, or maybe Bautista. If Goldschmidt fell, would probably go for him.

Should Kershaw or Felix be considered? I do not like going pitching early, but they are really head and shoulders above. Would like to get Scherzer as the staff anchor, but still feel like 15 would be too early for my tastes, but he will be gone by 30, I guess.

Kershaw falling to 8? Don't think there's a chance of that happening, although don't know how competitive your league is.

Goldschmidt also, no way should he be there but YES jump all over him if he falls. Just did a H2H pts league last night, here's the top 8:

1. Trout

2. Kershaw

3. Stanton

4. Mccutchen

5. Goldschmidt

6. Miggy

7. Felix

8. Scherzer

I would have taken Abreu over Felix there. Depends on your scoring also , we have 2 pts per IP, 1 pt per K, Wins/QS's etc etc, so elite SP's are monsters in this format

Miggy. Or best available 1b.

Let the others stock up on pitching. Focus on bats then load up on pitching later. Deploy two start pitchers to offset the aces you're going upagainst. Quantity > quality in h2h points.

Our league employs a 6-start max rule every week just to offset this. ... Then the cream rises , which it should IMO.

Thanks for the opinions so far. I agree that Kershaw probably won't fall, but last year he was the first pitcher off the board at number 8 (of course he had that little injury at the beginning of the year). The second SP went at 25 (Cliff Lee), then there was a run in the 3rd of Yu, Felix, Wainwright, and Scherzer.

I was interested in general perceptions of players, so I didn't include much else, but I will say now that we start 3 SP each week. We get 5 pts for QS, 1.5 per IP, 1 for K, -1 for each H/BB, -2 for ER (and 5 for save).

Last year it was 3 pts per IP and the elite SP were monstrous.

But now that it's pared down, it's probably not as big of a deal. The top 50 hitters, for instance, are projected around 366 points or more and only Kershaw and Felix meet that criteria.

Kershaw in a pts league is a guaranteed 30 pts most weeks and sometimes up to 60 pts on double start weeks. Its almost an unfair advantage that no other player offers including hitters. Guys like Trout are a consistent 30-40 pts

Hope the buy in is $2,000+ to make learning that wonky scoring system worth your time, bro.

It's not Kershaw vs Trout. It's Kershaw + your last bat vs Trout + your last arm.

Ha, I wouldn't mess with that screwball scoring system for anything less than 10 racks.

Learning the system? Its a points league. As long as you can count to 6 for your starts, you will be fine RnR. I'm confident u can

guys, this is a serious thread!

especially now that our jackass commissioner decided that the draft order will actually now be randomly selected 1 hour prior to the draft.

I'd like a reason as to why he felt the draft style needed to change.

I'd seriously consider leaving the league for that move.

Scoring system is a little different and we get 8 starts per week, but here was our top 10:

Trout

Stanton

Goldy

Kershy

Miggy

McCutch

Abreu

Gomez

Bautista

Felix

I took McCutch over Abreu...was a tough decision and not even sure I ever sold myself on the final decision. But I think that top 7 is a solid group and you could get one at #8 if someone takes Felix or a different power bat ahead of you. If not, you have a tough decision. I probably go Bautista over Edwin.
