9-year-old girl accidentally kills instructor with uzi (1 Viewer)

I don't care what any of you gun-loving hillbillies say, if you're putting an uzi in your NINE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER's hands, you're the dumbest ####### on the planet.

Instructor dead, and this poor girl will be a complete mess because the people who are supposed to take care of her in life allowed her to be put in this position.

Between crap like this and the pitbull thread, I just can't understand why people take such stupid, needless risks. So, so, so stupid.

But Otis, you're a liberal northern city wuss, you don't understand that it's part of our CULTURE

Wasn't there a story a few years ago about a young kid shooting himself with an uzi at an "outdoor show/try a gun on our safe range" type thing?

Probably. But but but.... SECOND AMENDMENT.
It's been said many times. You can't fix stupid. Not sure what this has to do with SECOND AMENDMENT.

Well, in case the government turns on us and sends in the Marines. We can just unleash all our daughters with uzis.

DON'T TREAD ON ME

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/05/us/05gun.html?_r=0

The boy, Christopher K. Bizilj of Ashford, Conn., accidentally shot himself in the head while taking his turn with a 9-millimeter Micro Uzi on Oct. 26 in Westfield, Mass. He was accompanied by his father, an emergency room doctor, who, the authorities say, had chosen the Uzi for him to fire.Massachusetts law generally makes it legal for children to fire a weapon if they have parental consent and are supervised by a certified instructor. But that does not apply to machine guns, which may not be fired by anyone under 18.
The gun show's promoter (who happened to be the chief of police) was charged with involuntary manslaughter, but he was found not guilty at trial.

I find it amazing what people will defend. the sheer insanity that a 9-year old girl would come in contact with an uzi, let alone know what one is, should not be a norm people simply dismiss.

Nine year olds should be handling nothing more dangerous than a BB gun or an airsoft rifle. By 10 they can be moved up, responsibly, to single shot or non-semiautomatic .22's, bolt action being better than lever action as low strength, short arms, and lever action can lead to a lot of muzzle travel. By 12 some can progress to 410 and 20 gauge shotguns. By 14 to just about any sport or common self defense caliber if under responsible supervision. Uzi's well, they should not be shot by any but full grown and experienced shooters.

Those who allowed this girl to possess and control that weapon should be looked at for Child endangerment charges. Very irresponsible to my way of thinking.

Wow. Just horrible. So stupid. I'm a gun rights guy but this is just asinine.

Obviously because it was the instructor he consented to her firing this weapon. What happens if the family of the victim wants to bring a civil suit? Technically the negligence was with whom? The victim?

Explain this to me like I'm a 9 year old: why isn't there a law that kids can't operate firearms?

I believe it's illegal for 9 year olds to drive cars, work in coal mines, consume alcohol and tobacco.

There also seem to be plenty of laws about the standard of care parents/guardians of 9 year olds have to give. You probably get in trouble if you leave a 9 year old alone at home, or in a parked car, or let the 9 year old skip school.

Why can a 9 year old legally operate an uzi?

Here you go.

Sam Scarmardo, the manager for the Last Stop's shooting range, told NBC News that "the establish practice at most shooting ranges is 8 years old and up with parental supervision."
Yeah, HUGE difference between an 8 year old shooting an Uzi and a 9 year old. Light-years.

You're creating straw arguments here. I doubt there is a single pro-gun person in this forum that would state that giving a 9 year girl access to a loaded Uzi is part of their culture.

All you're accomplishing is attempting to demonize those you oppose. Does it make you feel superior?

Maybe not here but obviously they're out there.

See: the assassin-girl's parents.

You simply picked a few things you did not like to rant on. Not impressed.

Because, 2nd Amendment.

Yeah, It just one of the things that popped into my head. We recently had a cheerleader blow her knee out. This led to a conversation with the mother stating she knew how dangerous it was. When I researched it I was surprised.

Look it up, I think it was over 4,500 emergency room visits per year during football season. Something like 20-30 deaths since 1982.

Anyway, i'm done in here. Just thought it was funny he used the "Stupid needless risk..." line when so many of the things we do are needless and dangerous.

I say live life.

Yet somehow guns have killed more kids than cheerleading. Crazy, I know.

Just one example

What does that have to do with anything? My comment was "Just thought it was funny he used the "Stupid needless risk..." line". Then I listed a group of things that were stupid needless risk.

So I really don't care what your view on guns are when my comment was directed toward the "Stupid needless risks" comment.

Now I'm truly out I'm not getting sucked in by the stupidity.

And more kids die in car accidents and due to medical malpractice each year.

The point is there is a risk in everything and it is all the same risk at different odds, and people have different levels of risk aversion. Some people think the risk of training kids with firearms is acceptable some people refuse to allow medical care for their children and some parents think football is too dangerous. That's America.

I looked it up but can't find the link now, but from memory, six sharks have died from cheerleading related accidents since 1980.

Guns, dogs, racism, liberal media bias, reclining airline seats, tatted up nymphos. So many divisive threads this week. Doesn't somebody have a good story about bewbs, blackouts, or burritos they can share?
