______ Passed Away Today, RIP (7 Viewers)

RIP Michelle Trachtenbert - only 39. She was hot when she was younger, but got a little odd in her 30's.
Sad sounds like she had some kind of liver disease and this may be from a transplant that didn’t quite work. Also not sure that’s a cool way to talk about this poor woman who died so young.
Apologies - it did come across a little insensitive. Wasn't my intent.

All good, I know you didn’t mean it like that.

Unfortunately her experiences as a youth in Hollywood were not great. When Joss Whedon was all in the news a few years ago, a bunch of Buffy/Angel stuff came out as well. One item that came out apparently was that Whedon was not allowed to be alone in the same room with Trachtenberg. Trachtenberg never specified whether that was because of verbal abuse (which Whedon was mostly in trouble for) or something else.

Gene Hackman, 95
I can't remember any role he played where he didn't dominate. All time great.
I just watched The Conversation recently, he’s incredible in that. RIP

He was incredible in just about every film he did. Top 5 favorite actor for me. RIP

Yep and they don’t cast leading actors like him anymore. Had that average guy look, actually looked his age. We need to bring that back.

Hackman looked 55 when he was 25 and he looked 55 when he was 80. Damnedest thing I've ever seen

I'll submit that he looked to be in his 50s since his 20s.

Someone would have a real hard time trying to convince me that we've had a better film actor than Gene Hackman.
Robert Duvall comes to mind but I think they're both on that Mount Rushmore.

This was exactly my thought as well. Flip a coin between those two.

What’s so amazing about the two of them was how versatile they both were - Hackman was totally believable as a villain, a lawyer, a priest, a cop, a submarine commander, a conspiracy nut and a basketball coach.

Completely agree with one glaring exception. He was an ugly woman/Drag queen (Bird Cage). Played the role to a T though so I guess that doesn't count. Carry on

RIP

I read this too. So many of these Hollywood execs/directors sound like total scum. When you hear about it so often, you can only imagine how much happens that goes un-reported.

Strange he, his wife and the dog were found dead. Makes me wonder if it was CO poisoning?
That's what I was thinking - from the article it says no sign of foul play.
My wife told me about this a little while ago and she was totally perplexed how the couple and their dog could be dead and not suspect foul play, and I immediately said CO poisoning. It's pretty much the only option that makes sense.

I am a huge Buffy/Angel/Firefly fan so I have done a lot of reading over the years on this topic.

Of all the harsh complaints about Whedon, it does not appear any one ever said anything about him being sexually inappropriate with any of the females. It appears he was just a complete dickhead to many of the actors and writers he was around, both male and female.

The story goes that Michelle came out of his office balling her eyes out (she was just 14/15 at the time) after he likely said some horrible things about her performances. It was at that point that the rule came into place, as every one tried to protect Michelle on set.

Why the $%#@ is it so hard to be a decent human being for many of these people in Hollywood? Imagine flushing a career as successful as his because you could not treat people with basic kindness and civility.....

This is my guess, too. I mean, unless they were both totally off-the-rails mentally, they wouldn't have taken the dog if it was mutual suicide.

and they wouldn't have said "no foul play" if there was suicide... I don't think.

Anyone ever have a more cynical laugh than Hackman? I'd think two things when he'd chuckle:

1. I want to jump through the screen and choke him out.
2. Someone's about to have a bad day.

Dude was an absolute monster on the screen. A true leading man.
He conveyed a sense of earnestness that could turn menacing, even in his few comedic roles; that's why he was the perfect Lex Luthor.
"AUSTRALIA!"
My favorite is:

Miss Tessmacher, some people can read "War and Peace" and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

I rank that just ahead of Otisburg?

Hackman was incredible and he has so many wonderful performances but the one that stands on top for me is Little Bill in Unforgiven. What a truly contemptible. sadistic, cruel character played with such cold venom, he made my skin crawl.
  • Little Bill Daggett: Now Ned, them whores are going to tell different lies than you. And when their lies ain't the same as your lies... Well, I ain't gonna hurt no woman. But I'm gonna hurt you. And not gentle like before... but bad.
ETA: He stood toe-toe with Eastwood making the final gunfight an open question until the end. Great movie.
