A Dynasty Look Back (1 Viewer)

from post 33:::

What do some of you project Charles Roger's stats for this season to be?

I'm guessing - 850 and 6 TDs

It is funny how so many people were so high on Charles Rogers and he ended up being a huge bust.

Rogers was a great prospect. There's no question about it.

Hindsight is 20/20, but there was no way to know that he'd smoke away his skills and whatever semblance of motivation that kept him going in college.

I still say he could've been a Pro Bowler if he hadn't been such a moron.

Unfortunately, we can pull a thread like that from every year. My only hope is that you guys don't find one with my stupid predictions.

Of course, the Charles Rogers not making it past like number 3 overall in most of those drafts is the most glaring misread of all.

Sometimes you roll snake-eyes, but I can't fault people for picking rogers in the top 3. If I'm sitting at 1.03 and I can take a WR/RB taken 1.02 overall in the NFL draft, I'll do it every day and twice on sunday.

yeah, the misread on that guy was by both. If the NFL guys miss that badly then of course we are going follow suit. I didn't have any rookie drafts that year, but I likely would have done the same at number 3. As someone mentioned in that thread, there was not much immediate help there.

Rogers is still a crazy NFL talent. He ended up getting hurt a lot, and had a bad attitude. Maybe a lot of that was due to the injuries? Sometimes a few breaks go against the guy and he never recovers. I'm not sure anyone could have seen what was coming on Rogers. The NFL draft is still a roll of the dice. It's just educated guesses.

I'm usually of the mindset of trading away youth/potential for proven players and this is a good example why. Many people put too much stock into potential and too little value on experience/current productivity.

There's a good probability that the Bush threads from this year will be bumped in the future for the same reasons. With people trading LT for Bush and similar crazy moves Bush will have to make some big time improvements to justify the hype and many dynasty trades based on his expectations/upside.

:goodposting: I did the same thing this year, I traded away my draft pick and/or rookis to get proven players, now I am sitting 8-1 and the top scorer in my league. It's so common we put too much value in those so-called potentials.
