A quick & dirty WR consistancy analysis (1 Viewer)

Here is a little analysis I did for one of my leagues. It was an attempt to determine which WR's have been the most consistant over the last two years.

It is based on my league's scoring system, which is very different so I don't know how useful it will be to anyone else.....

.2 pts/yd receiving

6 pts/TD

.25 pts/reception

.1 pts/return yard (& rushing yards)

Note the return yardage which was a factor in determining who even made this list. The criteria I used was any receiver who finished in the top 60 in total scoring among WR's for both 2005 & 2006, which gave me 34 WR's. Some notable names did not make the list (Randy Moss & Javon Walker most notable) due to an injury or just very poor performance. Since these factors effected the sample size, which unfairly effected standard deviation, I felt justified in excluding these names.

I then calculated the standard deviation & avg ppg over the entire 2-yr period (games not played were not part of the calculation) I then ranked both numbers (stddev & avgppg). Then I averaged the two rankings to come up with a combo ranking (the theory behind this is that higher scorers have more opportunity for a higher std dev) The results follow:

Code:
2-yr StdDev Avg	PPG Avg	combo player, team StdDev	Rank PPG Rank	rank rank Owens, Terrell DAL WR	10.03 16 23.9 2 9.0 1 Fitzgerald, Larry ARI WR 9.45 11 21.4 7 9.0 2Houshmandzadeh, T.J. The return guys appeared to be the most consistent in their week-week numbers. The biggest surprises to me were TO, Hines Ward & Andre Johnson. I would have expected TO to be less consistent and Ward & AJ to be higher up the list. But then again, this isn't exactly a scientific analysis.
