A ringing endorsement for Raiders' offensive line? (1 Viewer)

The Raiders' offensive line played decently yesterday, but it was against the Niners defense, which was awful last year and gave up its two best pass rushers.

With the first pick of the 2007 draft the Raiders select ......

Seriously this team is about as bad a team as there is in the NFL right now.

Yet they're 3-0 in pre-season.Sarcasm aside, they're not as good as their record shows, but they're probably not as bad as people are making them out to be.

:no:Steve Spurrier was the king of the preseason. Preseason records mean nothing.
Exactly my point. Pre-season records don't mean much, but often times neither do on-field performances. No way do I expect the Raiders to be that good, but I think it's premature to bury the team right now.

They are half way through preseason games. If they keep improving like last week they could be alright. They needed a little while to get used to a new coach and QB. We'll see after next week.

I disagree with what you're saying, but let me clarify. I don't equate records with "on field performances". The starters for many teams often come on the field, tear it up, maybe they score and maybe they don't but they quickly exit and the scrubs battle it out and decide the game. I take note of how the starting unit looks and performs, and what players are playing, and maybe compare performances of guys who are battling it out for the same position, and that's it. When the starters are sucking, I get concerned because they're essentially just playing a scrimmage the way they'd play in practice in 11-on-11 drills. It should be nice, easy and smooth. The Raiders are a team that was as inept as any in the league so far in the preseason until they showed some life yesterday. Granted, they have a new coaching staff, but they returned 9 of 11 starters from last year. To me, there's cause for concern.

I was considering posting a similar topic in the Shark Pool, but figured it would get little to no play. But, specifically, I have seen two of the Raiders preseason games, and Gallery has looked horrendous. Just whiffing. Here is a guy that they took #2 overall and has only played guard to date. Now, they want to throw him out on the island at LT and he is sticking out like a sore thumb. I am thinking bust. You either have a very high paid and average guard or a guy that does not look good at LT.

That's the problem. If the team was so bad they needed a new coach, then having 9 of 11 starters returning is not a good sign. They are used to practicing half-### with the coach before. Shell kicks them out of practice, they come back ready and perform better, and know what to expect now. They can turn it around.

The Raider Oline will determine whether they win 2 games this year or 8.

So far through three preseason games, they were flat out dominated by the 1st team Iggles and ViQueen DLines (both of which are VERY talented IMO) and then looked dominant against the Niner DLine, which is not good.

I don't think the Raider line is as good or bad as they've looked so far in these polar performances.

It is nice to see improvement and that the entire team looked good after Shell made a statement this week by kicking them all off the practice field.

I'm still concerned tho until I see more of their development. And I'm also still convinced that Jordan will struggle to get 35-40 catches, but may still be a decent RB2 in a Rudi Johnson like season if the OLine plays like they did yesterday.
