Aaron Rodgers Update (1 Viewer)

This is from McCarthy's press conference today:

# "They are going to rehab him today and tomorrow and we'll have a better idea. Speaking to Aaron, he has every intention of playing. It's just something we'll have to continue to rehab and monitor."

# "It's important for him to have the strength and see how well he throws on Wednesday, and Thursday morning how he recovers."

# Matt Flynn and Rodgers will be ready to play.

# On Rodgers: "There's no major structural damage. I think it's just how he responds to rehab and how fast we can move forward."

# Hawk has a pretty good strain. Wednesday is important.

I hope they don't rush him back and hinder a full recovery. I'd like to think they're smart enough to not worry about 2-3 to the extent Rodgers will have his injury linger longer than it should, or have him be ineffective if they do run him out there. I'm saying maybe they should just plan on him sitting this one out. But I'm not a doctor, and I have zero inside info, so I realize my opinion means bupkus.

This is great news. Now he just has to be tough enough to play through pain.
If there's no structural damage, it seems like he really couldn't do anything to it if he played. Heck, he had pretty good zip on the last pass he threw for a TD to Jennings. In this case, I could see him giving it a go, assuming of course he runs no risk of further injury.

Re-ReadIt says no "major" structural damage.

Bye week is 8 for the Pack, yes? Man, that's gonna sink lots of teams (especially in 2QB leagues) if he misses time while rehabbing and getting strength back in it. Anyone have any confidence in Flynn at all? He looked completely lost/raw to me thus far....like not even worth-a-pickup bad.

I hope he shows he's a gamer and rehabs/fights through any problems. He's been throwing into some very tight windows thus far, so I don't think it would be good for him or the team to try to go at anything less than 100% strength in it.

To the above poster talking about the zip he had on the ball to Jennings. That was the throw he hurt the shoulder. He through his own shoulder out. That was a helluva a frozen-rope throw though. /shrug. We'll know more as the week goes on.

 Of course there's some kind of structural damage, it was a sprained shoulder. Which means the capsule surrounding the shoulder was stressed to the point where some kind of damage has occured. 1st degree is just a stretch of the ligaments, 2nd degree is partial tearing, 3rd degree is complete tear of ligaments of the capsule. My guess is since there is no major damage to the shoulder he suffered a 1st degree sprain, which means no major damage.

The guy had significant pain and has to rehab this week... there was obviously some damage done otherise what is the rehab for? You expect a guy to be in a considerable amount of pain one day and 24 hours later be completely healed?!?

Quit being nit-picky and trying to read between the lines. There is no subliminal message here

 He played for 4 years with a torn ACL before so his pain threshold has to be pretty high. As long as he won't injure the shoulder further he'll try to play.

I wonder if there was any score board watching in Tampa yesterday as Rodgers was hurting and Jets were pumping up the points???

Green Bay is hurting! Especially on D side of ball!

RODGERS HAS SPRAINED SHOULDER

Posted by Mike Florio on September 29, 2008, 2:38 p.m.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said during his Monday press conference that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has a sprained shoulder.

McCarthy also added that there’s no “major” structural damage to the shoulder. (Which of course implies that there’s non-major structural damage. Whatever in the hell that is.)

If it’s a “sprain,” it also might be a separation. Two weeks ago, the Steelers and NBC were engaged in a pissing match regarding whether quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a separated shoulder. NBC reported that he did (because that’s what Roethlisberger, you know, told NBC), and coach Mike Tomlin insisted it was only a sprain of the AC joint, which by definition is a . . . separated shoulder.

McCarthy also said that Rodgers and Matt Flynn will split reps in practice.

And so the consecutive start streak for Rodgers could end at, um, four.

per rotoworld

Aaron Rodgers (shoulder sprain) will not throw footballs until Friday.

"He's throwing tennis balls and heavier objects," coach Mike McCarthy said. "He will be reevaluated on Friday. He's gotten better each day. I'm going to give him every chance to play in the game against Atlanta." It sounds like we won't know much more about Rodgers' status for another two days.
