Aaron Rowand (1 Viewer)

Hoping to build a foundation for a new deal, Phillies management had a recent chat with Rowand's agent, Craig Landis, and was floored to discover Rowand is seeking a six-year, $84 million contract. The Phils think Rowand's value is in the three-year, $30 million range, and it's believed they'd be willing to go there, maybe even a little higher. But unless Rowand comes way off his $14 million-per-year asking price and cuts the years in half, the Phillies will spend the money elsewhere.

6/84? No. He's not worth anything close to that. He's gotta career OPS+ of 106 and he's had a few .320 OBP seasons. I think he's a good player and this FA market isn't great, but Rowand is an above average fielder with some power and not much more. Maybe they can give him a little longer deal at 10 mill per but 14 mill?

Eric Byrnes got 10 mil per year so the Phils wanted to use that as the baseline.

They're better off sliding Victorino over to CF and letting Werth start in right.

How is Werth doing? I haven't really looked at his stats but I played with him in H/S and he was a stud. Heads and shoulders above anyone else as a catcher, dude threw a p-rod from home to second. Oh and he could rake. :goodposting:

Agreed. Not to mention they'd still have Bourne to fill in where needed.I just hope they'd use that money to fill in pitching, 3B, and more pitching.

Career year? Might as well ask for the world.
The Jeff Blauser technique...
Don't Forget Me!-SignedGary Matthews Jr.
Another guy that got 10 mil per - had a decent year this season at least.
Excuse me?He dropped from .313/.371/.495 to .252/.323//419OPS fell from 119 to 98 and was hurt multiple times during the year, the last time costing him a roster spot in the ALDS.oof

Well, the first half of the season at least. He was only a solid 25/25 pace before he started getting dinged up.
