Thoughts?
Hodge flashed ability in training camp last year, but in the regular season he looked like a rookie. What most concerned me was his inability to play OLB. With Barnett in the middle for now, Hodge needs to improve his coverage skills so that he can get in the game on the strong side. Unless GB decides to move Barnett outside, Hodge will never have tremendous fantasy value.

When Barnett missed a game last year Hodge played MLB. He looked like a real player and put up a real nice stat line (including a TD) and Barnett is in the last year of his contract with the Packers this upcoming season. Hodge's value is directly tied to Barnett's status in Green Bay. As long as Barnett is with the Packers Hodge will not have any real fantasy value. If Barnett is traded or does not resign with the Pack after this season Hodge would see his value jump through the roof.
That's true and Barnett basically refused to go to strong. He will have to ve forced to go out there and that time hasn't come yet. Barnett thinks he'll cost himself a lot of money if he does it.Hodge flashed ability in training camp last year, but in the regular season he looked like a rookie. I thought he looked pretty weak against Seattle too. He missed a lot of tackles. Seattle had trouble running all year but didn't have any trouble that night.. Not all of that was Hodge but some of it definitely was..That stat-line on Hodge is extremely misleading! He had a big play, which is nice, but looked terrible the rest of the game. He made below average reads and missed some tackles BADLY. Plus, Seattle ran a bunch, padding the stats. He fell to the 3rd round on concerns about his size, short arms and pass defense. He didn't do much in that game to disspell any of the three. I still believe he is a much better player than he showed that night, but hoping for more than an average-scoring 2-down role is asking a lot.

Hodge struggles early in camp
It seems like decades ago that Green Bay Packers middle linebacker Abdul Hodge was wowing fans at training camp, which had people calling for Barnett to be moved outside.
After a successful training camp in 2006, Hodge had a largely forgettable season. He was slowed by injuries, and they still haven't subsided.
"Coach Mike McCarthy indicated on Sunday night Hodge might have to go to a one-practice-a-day schedule until his knee problems subside," reports Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. "Meanwhile, he's getting passed by. Rookie Desmond Bishop worked in place of Hodge on Sunday as the middle linebacker with the No. 2 defense and held up well."
Why is Hodge's injury lingering for so long?
He was on the practice field pretty much in the Inside Training Camp episode last night. He seemed to be running OK, but the knee is an issue.ETA: I think I'm about to give up on this kid.
Well that is much more encouraging to hear. Let's see if he can keep it up.no new news, but some mccarthy quotes on hodge...

(What do you think of your backup linebackers?)
It's tough, Bishop has really jumped out at camp. Abdul is getting his legs back underneath him. I really like that group. Goodwell is doing a nice job. You have to be excited about Spencer Havner, the flexibility he shows, especially playing all three positions. Not to be redundant but the special teams work that they'll get will be very important as far as their ability to make this football team.
(Hodge was popular last year until he got hurt, are you seeing progress?)
I think he's done a very good job in the offseason, particularly from a mental standpoint. He's a very bright guy. He has a complete understanding of what we're doing, the base and the sub packages. I thought he did a nice job. He went out to Arizona after the OTAs and concentrated on his legs. He looks to be getting through the training camp part of it. I look to him to pick up where he left off last year.
...yeah, riding the pine.no new news, but some mccarthy quotes on hodge...

Thanks for this info.If you have a big roster and are looking for someone worth stashing, Desmond Bishop has picked up Bob Sanders D quickly and it sounds to me like he could stay ahead of Hodge (mind you, I'm a Bishop fan this is fwiw). Just gleaning from a variety of sources it sounds like Bishop is making a statement, even in coverage. It also sounds like a fierce competition with Hodge going full speed and doing some heavy hitting... at least since the 5th. Bishop has spent five days above Hodge on the depth chart with both going full tilt. While practicing once a day for the last week, Hodge has remained behind Bishop. Both should see plenty of action Saturday, and if I know Desmond, someone is gettting jacked up.
Hodge is fighting for a roster spot.PFWWell Hodge played "before" Bishop tonight and from what I can tell he played well.
Me either AB. He was only going to be a 2 down backer at best anyway.I have never seen anything about Hodge that tells me he will ever be a starter. He just doesn't make plays, and he looks really slow.
I suppose they aren't what they use to be, however I wouldn't totally disreguard them. I beleive they are more than likely accurate on Hodge. On The Rocks said:I have discovered the PFW is not even close to a valid source of information based on the line item they had on the Bills OLine this week. Stating that Jason Whittle locked up the starting RG spot while Duke Preston has pushed Melvin Fowler out as the starting C.
When in reality, Fowler sat out the Falcons game with an injury and Preston was just moved over for a one game start. Reports out of Bills camp is that the coaches will be deciding on the Whittle/Preston competition at RG this week.
Sorry to throw that onto the IDP page, but it is just an exampe of how PFW isn't a good source for information. Especially when it comes from their "rumors page".

Bishop is very impressive. He didn't look healthy this entire pre-season and didn't deserve to make the final 53. His fantasy hopes ended when the Packers resigned Nick Barnett anyway.Hodge has been cut.
He was put on IR, not cut.Hodge has been cut.
Desmond Bishop is a lot better than Hodge will ever be.He didn't look healthy this entire pre-season and didn't deserve to make the final 53. His fantasy hopes ended when the Packers resigned Nick Barnett anyway.Hodge has been cut.
