Add/Drop and Waiver Wire wonderment thread: Do you still own Domingo Santana? (1 Viewer)

So i have to replace travis, turner, and Dickerson in my lineup. Im hoping i get kang of waivers for MI. If i don't get him are there any other MIs i should look at? Also in OF, who do you guys like better? Tomas, Belt, Soler, Hicks, Zimmerman?

Depends on what you need. I'd take Tomas over Soler if I needed average but not if I needed an influx of power. Belt seems the safest among those listed for across the board contributions. I actually have all three players you listed and I just grabbed Dexter Fowler. Keeping an eye on Jayson Werth also since it's a H2H league and Werth is a walk machine when he's on.

Also Dickerson can blow me.

I don't think Houston has announced what they plan to do with McCullers. He pitched around 100 innings in each of the last two seasons and is right around that mark now. He hasn't pitched in a game since he got shelled at the end of last month. He's only been throwing on the side at AAA.

If you use the 25% IP increase rule of thumb for young pitchers, he has ~25 innings left in him. Even if he starts, I doubt the Astros will let him get deep into games. If you had him this year, you should consider it found money but probably look somewhere else for SP down the stretch in redrafts.

You expecting to find anyone with a better shot of giving you 6+ IP and over a K per inning on your waiver wire?
Obviously depends on the league, but I've found Jimmy Nelson, Patrick Corbin, Raisel Iglesias, and Ivan Nova over the last week or two in different leagues. Entirely possible any number of them are gone in a week if another option pops up, or they suck, though. All things being equal I'd rather have McCullers, but (at this point in the season) availability becomes more important in a lot of cases so I don't think waiting for those IP's is the right move. Every league (and team) is different, so there will certainly be some exceptions, but generally speaking a guy like him is more of a pain than he's worth.

I doubt he'll give you 6+ IP from here on out. We're coming up on September and there will be streaming matchups available.
Yeah, between his likely IP limit and expanding rosters I'd think Houston will be looking for reasons to pull him after 4-5 innings. All bets are off if it's do or die the final week or two and he's been pitching well, but we're a ways away from that.

Not sure why McCullers is any less of an option than those guys. I have Corbin and Nelson on my team, and they both had 1 terrible, 1 decent, and 1 good start in the past 2 weeks.

H2H should be self explanatory, at least if you have to set your lineup each week on Monday. Can't start him if I don't know if he'll pitch. Roto is a bit different - you've gotta consider the size of bench, your IP limit pace, categories in which you can still catch others, other things I'm sure.

Again, it all depends on the league and team, but McCullers makes more sense on waivers/someone else's team in most leagues right now imho.

Picked up Danny Valencia to fill in for Aaron Hicks who was filling in for Steven Souza.
I've used Valencia more than I've wanted to, but he's been mildly effective for a waiver wire play. Can't usually find power out there and he obviously offers it. Try not to start him vs. righties even when he's starting against them, but like most at this point in the season I'm without alternatives some days.

Dropping him in Pie when I did was rather dumb though.

Dropped Grandal, who's been slumping pretty hard and who I suspect might be playing hurt, for D'Arnaud, who seems to be back to his early-season form.
