That's pretty slim pickings. Jason Hammel would be my pick if you held a gun to my head but I've always thought he's been better than his reputation. I'd look at upcoming matchups though. If Arroyo is pitching in SD or SF, I'd probably take him or Hammel.

I'm also pro-Hammel. He's always been streaky, both good and bad, so if you catch him with he's pitching well he can be really helpful.

Obviously, he seems like a great prospect, but I'm not sure how you could be confident in that timeline. He's 20. He's had one great season in minors so far, in A ball. Maybe he bounces back from the wrist injury and has a monster 2014, but chances are, that's a struggle this year.

It would seem to me that the more likely plan (barring a monster 3 months coming back from wrist injury) for 2015 would be to let the 21 YO finally get a mostly full, healthy season of development in AA/AAA. Especially if the team is taking a cautious approach with his development.

Getting a 22 YO to the majors in 2016 with just 2 really productive MiLB seasons doesn't seem like rushing at all.

Brandon McCarthy maybe?

SIERA is 2.90 and xFIP is 2.76. He has an insane 21.4% HR/FB rate right now which will normalize.

He's throwing a lot harder this year and striking out more batters and has changed his approach overall: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/the-new-brandon-mccarthy/

No reason to ever have him play in AAA. If he tears up AA which is of course an "if," then there is nothing stopping them from bringing him after after the super two next season.

 
I have Cuddyer coming back early next week off the DL. In a 5X5 average league (keeper), which of these three do I drop?

Aoki

Bourn

Lind

I'm first in steals, second in RBIs, third in average if that helps. TIA.

Bourn's been god-awful this year. If you're first in SB, I think I would feel pretty safe dropping him.

Bourn's been god-awful this year. If you're first in SB, I think I would feel pretty safe dropping him.

Thanks man. Aoki was my first choice because I also have Butler and Perez, and these KC guys are just pissing me off. Bourn was an auction mistake, one of those guys you are bidding up just to bid up, that you get stuck with. Eric Young Jr is on the wire also (surprised he was dropped even with him sucking, I'm in a very sharp league), he seems like Bourn with actual steals. I'm thinking of adding him just as a block.

Saw the Desciafani news, anything to see here? Heard of him, never looked into him. TIA.

Yeah, I had an insane amount of these this year. I've been trying calmly to off-load the deadweight as much as possible. I'm starting to think about cutting way back on this in the future.

DeSclafani was one of the lesser known prospects in the Reyes/Buehrle/Johnson dump trade, UF guy who was a fastball-only reliever (low to mid 90's), and has developed a pretty good slider, with a curve that also looks big-league ready (see video below). Solid 2013 split between high A and AA, picked up where he left off this year at AA again, racking up 38 K's against 10 BB in 8 starts.

Pluses: Very good control (never above 5% BB at any level), racks up K's, Miami's defense is + this year, keeps the ball down and on the ground. Could stick around and help people feel less sad about Fernandez going down. And he played college locally.

Negatives: Might get babied even more by Fish after the Fernandez fiasco, has always had a weirdly high BABIP in the minors, despite keeping a very low line drive rate.

i also support dropping Bourn, though it's pretty close between him and Aoki. Sounds like Lind's HR would be a plus. Getting close to dropping Aoki myself. KC's offense seems like a mess and somehow I have Aoki and Gordon.

 
I need 3B help. Currently have Prado and Boegarts, though I am now playing Prado at 2B due to Zobrist injury.

There is a team with Beltre, Aronado and Machado.

I have a lot of SP: Price, Yordano, Cobb, Gio, Lackey, Gerrit Cole, and Ian Kennedy.

We only start 3 SP.

I'm thinking Gio for Beltre.

Good, no good?

 
Really tempted to drop Beltran, but the waivers are thin right now. Drew Stubbs is the only guy out there remotely interesting. But my DL slot is occupied by Jose Fernandez from here on out and my outfield is surprisingly thin. Safe to drop? And if not, safe to drop if he has to have surgery?

I'm still holding onto him in my league, but I'll probably drop if he has surgery. I'm almost hoping he does to save me the misery. I've currently got 5 guys on the DL on my roster (including my entire starting OF), and wouldn't mind being able to drop one.

ZIPs projections have Bourn and Aoki pretty even for the remainder of the year. Same power, same runs, Bourn steals more (allegedly) and Aoki will have higher average. In the end I'm getting rid of Aoki because I don't want all these Royals, Butler is just making me sick but I think he might recover.

 
So basically, if you were looking to move Cutch, you wouldnt accept anything other than Kershaw if you needed the pitching?

 
my initial thought was to trade mccutchen for a 2nd tier SP and a 2nd tier OF, but I don't really like giving up a top 5 player like that.

I would probably look to the waiver wire for SP. It seems really deep this year.

I just don't know how you can get the right value for McCutchen. I guess if you can get a top 8 SP, it would be worth it, but I don't know if I like that team better that way.

 
5X5 avg league, I have Cuddyer coming off DL

I have Tyson Ross, Anibal, Hamels, Fister, Estrada, Hudson, Niese and Gausman as starters and am just below the pace for 1400 innings. It is a keep 12 keeper league (up to five years) and I was thinking I'd drop Niese even though I really like him, because I think I have the innings and Gausman at $1 year 1 contract is a hold for now.

My other option is to dump Seth Smith who I just picked up, or Adam Lind. I am a little short on power though so I was going to platoon these two in my last utility spot, and with Billy Butler sometimes. Niese provides depth, he would be the #3 starter available on the wire if I drop him behind two Colorado pitchers and ahead of RA Dickey. Thoughts?

 
I'll take the hot guy with the spotty history over the cold guy with the spotty history.

And Smith has always hit righties very well, and lefties hardly at all. He's an easy guy to platoon.

 
Yeah, I'm pretty close to dropping Butler. Even it isn't right now, it's coming.

He does have four hits the past two days and did almost homer yesterday. The Seth Smith wave is something I've avoided but figured I'd jump on while it was still high. Thanks for the input.
