Yeah 19man rosters seems extremely low to me. Scoop xavier up. 3b-ss eligibility is nice and providing some decent numbers and showing a great eye at the plate. Kids gonna be a star and already is a solid roto option at ss

I love Bogaerts as a SS option, and obviously as a long-term prospect.

But I'd take a number of those jokers over him as a UTL in 2014. Martin and Bourn should steal 30 bases. Khrash, Grandy, and Rasmus should all hit 25 HRs, with a chance for more. I don't particularly like any of those guys, but I'd take about all of them over Bogaerts in the UTL spot.

Bogaerts would have a big power year to hit 15 bombs as a 21 YO, albeit with a nice OBP. In the UTL spot, that's called Billy Butler's downside.

He said bench/util meaning he can plug him into various spots not as his everyday util guy. That was my interpretation at least

ok, to clarify, i could use another hitter to potentially fill my util slot some weeks.

right now, i've been using michael brantley, with chase headley on the bench. I was going to use teixera, but he's on DL and now i'm not sure what to think about him anyway.

Got rid of mujica so i had a spot and wanted a hitter.

i do love multi-pos eligibilty.

1 pt for each TB, R, RBI, BB

2 for SB

-1 for K, CS

I think Bogaerts is an overall more valuable player in most leagues. Certainly if he's weak at SS, he's the guy to get.

But it's a shallow weekly H2H league, and I assume he's got a pretty good SS. So I assume Bogearts would have to spend a whole week as UTL barring injury or trade.

Then again, I guess if you can always find a 20HR K-machine OF or a 30 steal guy on the wire, grabbing the SS that can hit while he's there would make sense just for trade bait later.

So, I have been bitten by the injury bug early. With players about to come off the DL, I am pretty undecided about who to drop. We get a limited number of waiver moves in this league...15 and I have already burned 6 between the injuries and losing my closers. So I really need to think long term to conserve waiver moves...

On my Injured Reserve: Ramos, Beltre, Middlebrooks, and Reyes ( who should be activated this weekend)

Here is my current lineup in a standard 5x5 Roto...

C Montero

1B Freeman

2B Bonafacio

3B McGehee

SS Gordon

MI Hardy

CI A. Gonzalez

OF Braun

OF Bruce

OF Heyward

OF De Aza

OF Gardner

U Hart

Bench - Pedroia (normally would start, but was injured to begin week), Crawford, + the IR group

Pitchers- we start any combo of 9 each week

F. Hernandez

Shields

CJ Wilson

Bailey

Cingrani

Lincecum

Peralta

Quintana

Kluber

Broxton

Santos

Valverde

Jim Johnson

So, when Reyes is activated, I need to et someone go. With his issues, I don't think I can let Hardy/Gordon go, nor do I want to. Johnson is wasting space at the moment, but I think he will eventually get the closer spot back. It is hard to chase saves with limited waiver moves. Does Bonafacio need to go??? I like his multi eligibility. One of my SPs...Kluber, Quintana? I sort of like both of those guys for the long term. Valverde?? Give up on Johnson?

Cosart in OAK seemed like a great idea at the time.
While the park is nice, Oakland had the 3rd best offense last season and is doing well this season.
It was more that Cosart had been pitching well coming off a great showing in Arlington, and it was a great park.

But yeah, an unfortunate decision.

I was also excited that he could help make up for the mess that Smyly and Lackey made.

Anybody worth taking a flier on that can provide cheap steals. Usual suspects like Rajai and Young are gone. I picked up Victorino but is he just going to be hampered by his hamstring again all year? Span? Aoki? De Aza? Anyone else close like Springer worth keeping an eye on if they get the call?

Jarrod Dyson will get some playing time while Lorenzo Cain makes his annual trip to the DL. Unfortunately, Dyson went on the Bereavement list at the same time so he'll miss some time as well. Dyson doesn't contribute much beyond SBs and he'll likely share time with Justin Maxwell but he stole 30+ bases in partial duty the past two years. If he plays 5 games/week for the next month or so, Dyson owners could easily bank a dozen really cheap steals.

i guess jonathan villar isn't the worst. will probably hit about .250, decent walk rates, maybe 10 HR/50 RBI.

Strategy question with pitchers:

In general, would you lean toward using a 2-start pitcher in the RP spot if he has eligibility or a closer?

In this points league, a closer basically maxes at 11 with a save (5 for the save itself). A good start gets like 15-20 pts, a very good start gets 21-27 and great start gets like 28-35.

I feel like with the way these closers are this year, it's better to take the chance with a decent SP/good matchups who has 2 starts.

Innings Pitched (IP) 3

Earned Runs (ER) -2

Losses (L) -5

Saves (SV) 5

Strikeouts (K) 1

Hits Allowed (H) -1

Walks Issued (BB) -1

Quality Starts (QS) 5

A couple options on the wire this week for SP's. Would anyone be able to help rank them for me? Or possibly even help tell me how much faab (out of 100) I should think about going? Thanks.

Dillon Gee

Brandon Morrow

Alfredo Simon

Kyle Gibson

long-term or just for next week? i assume long term, as gee is the only one with 2 starts.

if talking long-term,Gibson looks the most intriguing from a quick glance at the peripherals. Great K rates and FIP in the minors and good GB%. Next start vs. TB, which should be pretty good.

Simon had a very low BABIP last year and ridiculous so far this year.

Gee is not bad, but more of a FB pitcher, which is ok for him at home, but less good on the road.

Morrow, your guess is as good as mine whether he can put it all together this year, but he will turn 30 in july and still hasn't.

Sorry guys. My pitchers are terrible and I'm talking long term.

My team is:

SP - Ryu

SP - Shelby Miller

RP - Uehara

RP - Mujica (yes, have to start him my RP's are so bad)

P - L.Lynn

P - AJ Burnett

P - Tanner Roark

P - Cassilla (again, starting a middle reliever)

And no bench. Went really hitter heavy in a 15 team league.

Hoping to get two of them. Thanks for the advice.

Gibson has major control issues. His stuff is great but until he can harness his control at best he is a stressful #5 or 6 starter and at his worst he will set your team back two weeks with one start.

in the majors, this is true, but in the minors, his walk rates were average to good.

never seen the guy, just going off stats.

i have watched him in three of his starts, he is all over the place right now. Doesn't know where his secondary pitches are going.

LBL i generally go with good RP eligible starters with two starts or one with two good matchups over most closers. For example, this week i started jesse chavez over jason grilli.

picked up Simon. surprised he wasnt rostered already
Low K's and no real history as a starter, small ballpark, pretty good hitting division probably all good reasons he's not a hot commodity. He's the 7th most added player on CBS, so I guess he's worth a flyer if you are desperate for innings. Don't expect his excellence to continue though.

Mesoraco was still sitting out there (everyone tends to like their catcher in a ten team league) but i couldnt leave him out there anymore. Now i have two catchers which i hate doing (castro is the other). Go with the hot hand for now.

For those in weekly leagues, some good two start pitchers available... Peralta vs SD and CHC, mccallister vs KC, @SF, and volquez (has two tough matchups but hes been pitching really well)

I normally hate carrying 2 catchers as well, but I'm rolling with it this year. It's nearly impossible to hit a games limit with just one, and there are a lot of catchers that can hit now. Plugging one in as a UTL from time to time isn't a bad option at all.

Especially with Castro being essentially useless against LHP.

I even picked up Pinto to back up Castro for now. His regular playing time might have an expiration date, but I really like him and want to see how it plays out.

thanks. makes sense to me. still going back and forth on Keuchel @SEA and vs. OAK over Broxton or Santos. not the greatest SP option.

Anyone have any strong feelings one way or another on Garrett Richards?
He's close, but I don't think he's there yet. I'm hoping he has some hiccups sometime in the next couple of months then I can put him on my post All Star break radar. The stuff is there, but I don't think he trusts his secondary stuff enough and it gets him into trouble.

I picked him up and plugged him in this week, so hiccups are all but guaranteed. You're welcome. :towelwave:
