Add/Drop and Waiver Wire wonderment thread: Do you still own Domingo Santana? (2 Viewers)

Anyone have any strong feelings one way or another on Garrett Richards?
He's close, but I don't think he's there yet. I'm hoping he has some hiccups sometime in the next couple of months then I can put him on my post All Star break radar. The stuff is there, but I don't think he trusts his secondary stuff enough and it gets him into trouble.
Watched him for the first time last night. His stuff is awesome, 96-97 with incredible movement, his control is not. He cruised through the first 3 innings and then came unraveled in the 4th. Walked the first two batters on 9 pitches (two of them sailed over the catcher and nailed the wall - ala Unit / Kruk). Threw two perfect pitches to Werth to jump to an 0-2 count and then drilled him, nearly taking off his head. A lot of "nervous AB's" the rest of the inning. Fun to watch though.

Absolutely. The one thing I hate about having young children and living in the eastern time zone is there is a lot of great baseball being played out west and it is real hard to justify staying up late to watch too often. I try to catch Richards at least once every 3 or 4 turns.

Anybody worth taking a flier on that can provide cheap steals. Usual suspects like Rajai and Young are gone. I picked up Victorino but is he just going to be hampered by his hamstring again all year? Span? Aoki? De Aza? Anyone else close like Springer worth keeping an eye on if they get the call?
Will need some injuries to make it happen, but in deep deep leagues, I'd keep an eye on Nyjer Morgan. He's in Triple A right now for the Indians, but I think he could actually do some damage for average and steals given some playing time.

Get excited Lackey owners. I hated it the minute I bought him at auction. I'm cutting bait today. I've tried to hold off because the underlying numbers are still solid, but I just can't get myself to trust him for some reason.

No doubt he's about go 8 scoreless today.

Weekly h2h standard points league, at catcher Mesoraco is still out there and I have Wieters. This guy for real, or just hold on to Wieters?

Also, Mourneau is still out there as well and he seems to be doing pretty well. Is he all the way back? He going to return to his almost MVP type form? Him or Rizzo?

4th outfielder, would you rather have Nelson Cruz or George Springer?

I'm trying to be patient but Salvador Perez is killing me (10 team redraft league). Free agents are Montero, Ruiz, Jason Castro, hell, even Kurt Suzuki is putting up better numbers.

?

Speaking of post hype sleepers, i think its time to add trevor bauer. Indians cant keep rolling out danny salazar
Rumor is Indians management is frustrated with him, kinda like Arizona before they traded him at a discount.
That not an old rumor at this stage? Dude's been beyond money so far this year, including in his 1 MLB start. I don't get why they'd be frustrated with him now that he's pitching well.

I think he's highly dependent on whether the league uses AVG or OBP.

I cut him as soon as Castro and Montero somehow became available in my main (OBP) league. Gone with Pinto some too. In an OBP league, there might be as many as 18 better options at C than Perez. The walk rate for a couple of weeks was encouraging, but the lack of power and chance he reverts back to his career norms, means he's highly replaceable. A bunch of C's will hit 15+ bombs with a poor to mediocre OBP.

In an AVG league, he's closer to a Top 10 option. A chance to barely top 10 HRs still means you probably won't regret riding the hot hand with someone else, but he's worth waiting on in those leagues. The AVG will definitely come back around.

Though, if you have the room and inclination to carry 2 C's, I'd prefer the Castro/Montero combo there too. Castro can be tricky as a sole option because he sucks against lefties, but it also means you know when to bench him and he can give you .275 with nice power against righties. If you only wanted to carry one, I'd probably take Montero over Perez. He's cut down on the K's, so you could get lucky and get a .280/15 season out of him.

Thank you Pollards.

I'm in a weekly league without OBP/AVG - scoring is hits, RBI, R, SB, etc. -.5 per K.

I think Montero is the way to go tho I'm stuck with Perez the rest of the week so maybe I'll see if he can pick it up.

Actually, I'm not too familiar with points leagues, but that's probably the sort of the league I'd be really patient with Perez in. In that sort of league, I'd think you are looking for a compiler that puts the ball in play and doesn't strike out. That's what Perez does.

I'm holding Perez in a keeper because I see a big upside, but he's going to the bench for now. He's normally pretty consistent, it was the power that I was waiting on. No he's like 0 for his last 25.

For those with an addiction to cheap high K mashers, Chris Carter finally did something last night. He hit the wire in a lot of leagues.

Could be a great add if he's just a few weeks late to the 2014 35 HR breakout party.

Read it between his last start and his most recent one. Don't remember who, but I want to say Sam Amico.

It's all about his approach and listening to coaches. It's a non issue when he's pichitgn well, but when he inevitably runs into a problem? Have to manage that correctly on the front end, so any corrections are executed properly when the time comes.

Where would you put Gattis in that group...better than all?

I'd say those guys might be qualified to shine Gattis' shoes, but that's about it.

Sal Perez, IMHO, strikes me as a 2nd half type of guy. He's solid for batting average as stated by others, but I'm not sure you can count on him for much else.

IMHO, the long range catcher pickup is Josmil Pinto. I'm not sure why Gardenhire keeps pushing Suzuki, but he's probably accounting for handling the pitching staff more at this point. Those with Castro I think should stay faithful. Given the Astros have nothing offensively outside of Altuve, Castro gets some rare middle of the order RBI opportunity for a young catcher given the lack of other firepower in that lineup once he gets going.

As for Charlie Blackmon, sometimes you have to look past the stats and see what happens in the games. Some managers just won't let up on certain players. Tony La Russa used to throw Mike Gallego out there, then Mike Bordick, against all odds again and again. It's Weiss as the manager right? He clearly likes DJ LeMahieu and Charlie Blackmon.

During the break, I think folks are going to focus on Buxton and Bradley, but a guy to watch IMHO is Maiekel Franklin of the Phillies. I don't think Cody Asche is going to hold him off and sometimes it just comes down to getting at bats.

Profar might also be an interesting buy low right now, depending on the league and whether it has NA slots or not ( lack of NA slots would make him much easier to pick up)
Maiekel Franklin's friend Maikel Franco is currently hitting .134/.216/.164 at AAA, but he might be a second half type of guy too.

I keep trotting Chris Owings out there, due to complete neglect and boozing during the draft. Am I better off keeping him or adding any of these guys (or any deep sleepers?) in my OBP league?

Alcides Escobar

Hechverria (sp?)

E Aybar

Assdribble Cabrera

Jeter

Hardy

Solarte?

Couldn't you have waited until after his start against the Yanks?!

And another one tonight. He's firmly entrenched on my bench, but hopefully he plays on days like tomorrow when he can be worked in.

So is Blackmon sitting vs. lefties?
He has been most of the time, but no idea why.
The current line from Weiss is that he's going to sit against "tough" lefties, so he needs to be checked when they are going against a LF starter and expect him to sit against the Bumgarner's and Kershaw's of the league.

For his ML career he actually has a small reverse platoon, in a fairly limited sample against left handers, but his minor league numbers were more conventional.
