Add/Drop and Waiver Wire wonderment thread: Do you still own Domingo Santana? (2 Viewers)

Wife left the room as I was calling Len Casper a ####### idiot for not being able to add 4+3.

Then Jim DeDouche follows up coming out of the commercial break with RN football score shtick

Junior Lake is an interesting player, he has some power, speed, and has some big nights. I use him as a Monday/Thursday player in a deep keeper adn as a fill, and he's just fine. Pays off on nights like these.

Need a replacement for Jose  . Pick one...

Jarred Cosart

Tim Lincecum

Charlie Morton

Mike Leake

oof :topcat:
Is Dallas Keuchel available? If so, I think he's a better option than any of those guys.

Of that group you have there, I like Lincecum best if you can absorb some WHIP issues. He pitches in a huge ballpark and he gets a lot of Ks, also will get some wins. Cosart will have trouble getting a win and doesn't get enough k's. Leake and Morton both play for good teams, hard to trust Leake in that ballpark and his ground ball rate is about 7% higher than his career average right now.

Buddy, who's a Cardinal fan, was asking why he doesn't play everyday?.......he's always hitting the ball hard

I'm looking at Lincecum, myself. Mostly because he's the only one there that can retain the K rate. But I picked up Chase Anderson for now just to see what happens in the next week or so.

He is. Ill give him a spin. Thanks. Interestingly, he is compared to Lincecum in this blurb on CBS

(05/09/14) Dallas Keuchel averaged 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings over his minor-league career and 4.9 per nine innings in 2012, when he last played extensively there, which is part of the reason I ignored him up until now. He had stretches last year when he looked pretty good as well, but he still finished with a 5.15 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. He wouldn't keep it up.

Except he has now for a full seven starts, the latest coming against a red-hot Tigers lineup. Considering his 8.2 strikeouts per nine innings and 2.3 walks per nine innings, nothing about his 3.68 ERA or 1.18 WHIP so far strikes me as unsustainable. Which leads me to believe, for reasons beyond my understanding, he's simply gotten better. Last year, he showed glimpses of it. This year, he's arrived.

It's not another Tom Koehler situation where all the supporting numbers point to regression in the near future. The results are good, and the peripherals are better. Now, we could argue about how valuable an Astros pitcher with a 3.68 ERA and 1.18 WHIP is in today's game, where quality pitchers abound, but in most of my mixed leagues, I could find someone to drop for him.

Not Josh Beckett or Tyler Skaggs, probably, but Dan Straily? Tim Lincecum? Koehler himself? Sure.

He looked great vs the Tigers and he gets to pitch in some pitcher-friendly parks in Oakland and Seattle. He's a ground baller and although the 65% ground ball rate is high for him, the K's kind of suggest he may has some upside. Of the guys you listed, he seems like as good or better of an option and maybe you can catch some lightning in a bottle.

Kevin Gausman getting a start tomorrow.
Gotta think he'll be a part of the rotation by July. I'm surprised Miguel Gonzalez has hung on this long to the #5 spot.
Gausmann's command has been uncharacteristically shaky in the minors this season. Walks haven't been a big issue before so I expect him to work through it. But long counts will negatively impact his already limited pitch counts and innings pitched.

He has to keep the flyballs down to be great in Baltimore. Power pitchers struggle with pitch counts early in their careers, but his walks are double this year from his career numbers. His splitter is apparently his biggest issue right now, we'll be able to tell tomorrow if 85% of what he throws are fastballs.

Is Gausman worth a #1 waiver pickup? Im another fernandez owner desperately looking for pitching all of a sudden.
I'd wait for a prospect bat and stream veterans to replace Fernandez. I don't know if Gausman will pitch enough innings to justify the waivers priority. . I doubt he'll pitch more than 150 innings total and he already has pitched 26.

sorry guess i shouldve clarified. In my league the only way you can pickup players is thru waivers. So next pickup i make will bump me down. Waiver cycles very quickly. Id have to pick up somebody by this weekend anyway. So basically im gonna lose priority this weekend no matter what

Sounds like you've already made up your mind.

hard to tell without knowing who's available in your league. It looks like the Marlins will attempt to use Slowey or Hand (or Eric Clapton). The Yankees will probably be bringing up somebody to fill in for Beltran but Zoilo Almonte isn't worth a pickup IMO.

Was able to pick up both Keuchel and Beckett this morning.

This is just another reason why you should draft hitters over pitchers.

Byron Buxton has like a zero percent chance at making an impact until at earliest the middle of next season, right? I'm hearing he's out another two months since he aggravated his prior wrist injury.

I'm holding in a 12 team / 12 man keeper league, but it's looking like he's not in my top 12 and won't be playing much this year even in double A, so I might throw him back into the pond.

Agree on his ETA, but mildly surprised he can't crack your top 12 for keepers. Can you give your 12 for reference?

I'm in a 12 man keeper where you can keep guys up to five years. I have year two Buxton and wouldn't even consider dropping him until 2016, and my team is currently in 2nd place and the benches aren't that deep. :2cents:

It's probably stupid of me, but a BAL SP prospect would need something like an 18.0 K/9, 0.50 BB/9, and a 60% GB rate for me have any interest in them. If Mike Mussina ever walks though that door again, it'll just have to be on somebody else's team.

projected keepers:Trout

Stanton

JUpton

Will Myers

Chris Davis

Longoria

Gregory Polanco

Matt Harvey

David Price

Last 3 would come from group of Alex Cobb, Altuve, Ian Desmond, Springer, Buxton, Yordano Ventura, Wacha, Profar, and Cron.

Currently in 2nd place / Tulo team is killing it right now.

No way I'd be keeping Matt Harvey over Buxton (or any young pitcher for that matter*), and you'll have to see what Polanco does before the end of the year. That's a good group you have there though.

*ETA: I hate all pitchers

#### Buxton got hurt again? Saw him play in his 3rd game back last week when he homered in the 1st inning on a first pitch fastball. He didn't do much else. Definitely seemed raw out in CF though. Still, he looks the part.

Seriously, that's like the best prospect from every year for like the last 7 years.
It's year 1 and drew pick 1...

Trout in the 1st

Stanton and Longoria at the 24/25 turn

Upton and Myers in 4/5

grabbed Harvey late with the intention of sitting on him all year

and so on...

Traded Segura and Zimmerman for David Price

Traded Boegarts + K-Rod + something else I can't remember right now for Chris Davis

Ian Desmond actually got waived and I used my waiver priority on that

I think I'm really the only guy who pays too much attention to prospects. Buxton was a late pick, Springer I missed but he got waived about 2 weeks ago and I grabbed him, and Polanco was a pick-up early in the season.

Any of these guys worth a flier going forward/short term? Points league, no negative points.

Simon, Norris, Arroyo, Bedard, Hammel, Gonzalez...

Really hoping we see Heaney as that would solve my problem on having Gee and Perez just go down. Only six healthy starters right now and I need 8 starts per week (Felix, Lee, Wilson, Ventura, McAllister, Kennedy). Thinking I might need to make a trade though because Perez might be done.

That's pretty slim pickings. Jason Hammel would be my pick if you held a gun to my head but I've always thought he's been better than his reputation. I'd look at upcoming matchups though. If Arroyo is pitching in SD or SF, I'd probably take him or Hammel.

Buxton was left on the DL so long because the Twins are taking a very cautious approach to his development. Why wouldn't they? Especially wrist injuries, which can linger and negatively impact career progress.

He's going to be a June call up next year IMO, then he'll stick as an every day player.

Sure is...14-team keeper. I'm gonna have to go matchups or make a small deal.
