Add/Drop and Waiver Wire wonderment thread: Do you still own Domingo Santana? (1 Viewer)

Cashner owns a 2.07 ERA and 0.987 WHIP in 182.1 career innings at Petco Park, including a 1.43 ERA and 0.88 WHIP in 11 starts there last season.

If nothing else, there's some serious value to leaving him on the bench and using only his home starts.
Maybe, but I hate burning a roster spot on that sort of thing. If/when I don't feel comfortable rolling an SP out every time he pitches, I'm cutting bait.

With new closers potentially popping up everyday, and this year's slate of solid, surprise batters sorting themselves out, roster spots are just too valuable.

Plus, it's 2015, you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a flawed pitcher that'll luck himself into a stupid low ERA.
Eh, ok then. You seem to have made up your mind. I don't know how shallow your league is, but guys that you can count on every time he pitches don't exist on my waiver wire. And rarely are those flawed pitchers you mentioned easily identified before the stupid low ERA happens. If they were easily identified, the outcome probably wouldn't be luck and they probably weren't all that flawed.

You are right about it being the time to speculate on unowned closer candidates and surprise hitters, I just wouldn't cut bait of Cashner after one dud start to do it.
10-team mixed, but it's 35 roster spots and to hit the IP limit, you need what amounts to about 9 SP.

Being a daily roto, I prefer not to have too many SP to start the season. Innings can easily be made up later, but games played and missed opportunities cannot. I wanted to let somebody go, and I'd rather take my chances on some guys at the end of my rotation (McCarthy and Paxton) than to see if this the year Cashner finally puts it all together (K's and ratios).

I phrased that wrong about "luck", but it's not terribly difficult to find some guys that'll produce these days.

Got the Canha love real bad. How long can Ike Davis and his wiffle ball bat keep him out of the lineup? Talk me down.
Ugh. Of course he just got picked up in my league. Well, at least one of the cellar dwellers got him.
Just made a play for him in my home league. Like the upside here.
He's versatile. Even plays 3B, and he hits both righties and lefties equally well.

Pretty good Rule 5 grab for Oakland, but I wouldn't blow an FAAB budget on him.

Anybody excited about Michael Saunders?

My OF stinks, so I'm throwing a bunch of #### against the wall to see if enough sticks to get me some cheap OF4/5 production (that's even generously assuming that I can get some OF3 production out of Choo or Polanco).

Right now, rolling with Snider, Gose, Morse, Peralta, Saunders, and, good Lord willing, I might nab that red-headed A's kid that quoted Bull Durham.

Am I wrong thinking Saunders could end up the jewel of that pupu platter? Well except Snider of course, who's a shoe-in for 35 bombs and a .360 OBP.

Saunders could be the best of that group, he'll need to hit lefties though or could end in a platoon with Pillar.
Lefties are one issue. How much he'll run, and if it will effect his swing, coming off a knee injury is the other.

Worth a dart throw if you have issues, but you aren't going to know whether it hits or not for some time. Gotta have patience if you're going down this path.

Need help on picking up a 1B as I took a flyer on Belt for some stupid reason. 10 team league head to head with points system.

Top free agents:

Adam Lind
Steve Pearce
Eric Hosmer
Yonder Alonso
Stephen Vogt

I think Pearce might be the guy. Obviously last season was abnormal for his career history (and he had a crazy HR/FB%), but he has made changes to his swing: http://baltimoresportsandlife.com/steve-pearces-mechanical-changes/

Typically, guys who suddenly break out like this have specific changes that they've made (e.g. Jose Bautista).

Vogt could be useful since he will presumably get C eligibility at some point.

If it's a weekly league, Hosmer. I wouldn't dump Belt though.

Daily and I'd just play matchups day-to-day, especially with that caliber 1B available.

Thanks guys it is a weekly league so the lineups lock for the week on Monday. Was leaning to Hosmer/Pearce but maybe I'll see who Mil is facing next week SP wise.

Can't trust Belt with his injury history and the fact he is already missing time.

Just going based off memory, but before this muscle pull haven't most of his been of the fluke variety?
His problems last year were a broken thumb (HBP) and a concussion (during fielding practice).

While the brain and groin are intimately connected, I don't think there's a clear pattern of injury.

Pearce shouldn't be a free agent in any league
I was curious about that, as ESPN says that he is 100% owned. But in a 10-teamer it could happen, depending on roster sizes and skeptical owners. Last year was quite an outlier. He was not drafted in my 12-team league with 19 roster spots. Picked up on day 2.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Monday that pitcher LaTroy Hawkins will get "a break" from closing duties, the Denver Postreports.

Rafael Betancourt will be in line to get a save opportunity Monday if needed, but the team could also use Adam Ottavinoor Boone Logan in the role. Ottavino is likely unavailable Monday after pitching Saturday and Sunday but has racked up seven strikeouts in 4 1/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and one walk. Logan has tossed three perfect innings in three appearaces.

Some more Ottavino stuff for those interested

Keep an eye on Carlos Peguero. Getting a chance with Rua on the DL.

6'5" 260 and can steal a couple of bases too.

White Sox haven't announced a pitcher yet for Sunday. Might be worth stashing Carlos Rodon until you see what the decision is, Worth holding on to for a couple of weeks if you have the room, imo.

Ender Incirate

What is his story

Keeps it up or no way
With a .448 BABIP and a 2.9% BB rate? No way. Whether he ends up valuable or not depends if he channels his minor league base running and starts walking more. Ride the hot streak though.

Damn guess I dropped John Philip Souza too soon. Pick him up now if its not too late. Hopefully I can get him back after waivers clears.

Danny Salazar gets the start tomorrow vs Twins and Francona said he's staying in the rotation after. Probably a guy dropped in a lot of redrafts, 47% owned at CBS, 40% Yahoo.
