Add/Drop and Waiver Wire wonderment thread: Do you still own Domingo Santana? (1 Viewer)

Long Ball Larry said:
where do you find the batted ball speed data?
Fangraphs has soft/medium/hard in player profiles. Maybe the premium package ranks them?
Yeah, I've seen that and you can make your own custom leaderboards to get the rankings. But I do not see the actual speeds, although I think I read an article about the top 10 speeds or something last week. hittrackeronline.com ranks the speeds of home runs for each player.

Is it just me or has it been impossible finding good SPs on waivers this year? Ive struggled all year as every guy I have picked up has sucked. I picked up guys like Fiers, Nelson, Velasquez, Hendricks. I havent had luck at all. Only pitchers I can think of that have been good pickups in my league are Hammel, Chavez, and Rodriguez. Maybe Im forgetting someone. Anybody have some sleeper SPs they like? I keep rolling out two start scrubs every week to go along with my "big 3" of Sale, Lester, and Tanaka

McCullers has been a good pickup.

rubby De La Rosa

getting unlucky with HRs, 5th highest HR/FB%. 3.35 xFIP, 8.39 K/9, but 50% GB rate. Great slider.

More matchup plays than waiver wire gold of years past, but Garcia has been a huge help the last four starts and as long as his arm is in one piece no reason to expect that to change.

Carlos Martinez was probably drafted, but it would have been late and he's been great.

Have been this year, but big handedness splits have not really been an issue over his career, as far as I can tell.

If Rubby has a couple of good outings vs. the Dodgers and Rockies (at home) I may take him for a spin in the Mets game before the All Star break then see where his spot in the rotation falls going forward. I'm not going down that well until he shows it a couple of times though. No matter what happens tomorrow, I'm not holding it against him though.

No doubt, just trying to identify someone with really big upside, as opposed to the Jesse Hahns and Chase Andersons of the world who I think are decent, safe pickups, but won't be game-changers.

I've been repairing my horrible peripherals lately with Garcia, Erasmo, and Chad Bettis. Dropped Bettis recently but might pick him up again. It's rough out there. Last year I was picking up guys like Carrasco, DeGrom, McHugh. Nothing like that out there this time around, except maybe McCullers, who I missed out on despite being a fan. Ugh.

Chase has been real helpful, but I'll be honest - I hate starting him. It felt good to not even consider him last night since he was in Coors.

Mike Montgomery looked great from the 3rd inning on last night vs the best hitting team in the AL. Nice curve and the change, at least for one day, was Johanesque

4 of last 5 starts have been QS. The one that wasn't (v SF) he gave up a single in the 8th and the bullpen allowed the 4th run to score. He would have taken an L anyway since Sea was shut out.

Cautious on Grichuk btw, who I gave a long look because my DH2 has been a swinging door of mediocrity. His walk/whiff ratio is not exactly Posey-esque.
I'd be surprised if anybody is committed to him for more than a week out, but watching him bat definitely helped sell me on him as a flier.

How many teams? 15?

I doubt it Posty. No reason to draft either Young or Heston.
We have 30-man rosters. Heston was the only one that wasn't drafted. Young was drafted late when he signed.

Andrew Heaney called up to start vs. Astros

grabbed him. maybe he'll figure it out.
Future member of the boring SPs who deserve to owned club.
Heaney is more highly regarded than a lot of guys who've made the jump this year. If we ignore PCL batting stats why wouldn't we ignore PCL pitching stats? But he has a 8.5 k/9, 3.10 FIP, a .372 BABIP, and he's been pretty good at every level. First cup of coffee didn't go well but he's in a pitcher-friendly park and he projects as a good k guy.

I'm in a roto dynasty with 40 man rosters and a 15 player developmental squad. Burnett was the only one on a roster before our first round of waivers. Only Colon and Gallardo were added to a roster before the season started. Pie's a more traditional redraft roto - 14 team, 28 man roster league and only Burnett + Gallardo were drafted.

I don't know the specifics of your league, but I'm betting your league mates over value starters.

Maybe. It is a 7x7 H2H keeper league (maximum three years).

Sit tight on Cashner?
Depends who you're adding and what he does for your roster, but based on what he's done if the league is shallow enough I'd make my decision based on Saturday's performance. He is scheduled for road games against St Louis and Pittsburgh before the break, so if it doesn't go well Saturday I'd have no faith starting him either of those games. Depending where he falls in the rotation, the schedule sets up favorably post break, but it's been fairly favorable in June and he's been mostly mediocre.

If he flounders Saturday and I decided to dump him I'd put him on my watch list and add him if he has a good performance but not until he has one.

Rougned Odor doing 395/442/632 with 2 HR and 4 SB in the two weeks since he got called back up from AAA, where he was also raking. Still unowned in a lot of CBS and Yahoo leagues.

Nearly picked him up today with both Utley and Rendon going on the DL (my CBS team is a disaster of red crosses), but I took a flier on Cesar Hernandez, and Wilin Rosario inexplicably was on the wire to slot in as my CI.
