Addai next year (1 Viewer)

With Rhodes gone to Buffalo, what exactly are the expectations for Addai next year? He was the first guy to ever run for a 1,000 yards without starting a single game. We all know what Edge did when he was given all of the carries. Does he produce like James or does he get injured like he did every year at LSU. Can he actually carry the load for Indy?

Yeah, I haven't heard anything either.

I don't think it's happened (if it ever will) yet....Id

maybe someone (JJ) misinterpreted "going to buffalo" as "SIGNING" with buffalo?

Rhodes has GONE to buffalo to visit team officials, but he hasn't SIGNED with buffalo...

Rhodes also has plans to "go to Atlantic City", which will impact Addai very little.

So it is safe to say hai trip to Buffalo should have no impact on Addai next season right?
Breaking News: Dominic Rhodes will be 'going to the bathroom' (though not necessarily in the customary location). There should be very little, if any impact on Joseph Addai next year (unless he's a passenger in Addai's vehicle). :D Id

I expect the Colts to get a #2 back from somewhere that will get 150 carries or so during the season. If the 2-back system gets you a Super Bowl victory, why change?

Perhaps, but I've read Polian say down the stretch that the team plans on giving Addai a much larger role next year (don't have the link handy). Things can obviously change though.

Right now there's not much behind Addai. UDFA DeDe Dorsey is on the roster. Mungro is a free agent right now, and I don't know if he'll be re-signed. It seems Addai's backup is likely to be found in the draft. I haven't heard the Colts mentioned in connection with any of the available free agent RBs out there.

I agree here that if Rhodes leaves they Colts will bring in another RB to fill his role. Addai might pick up a part of Rhodes' carries but someone else will most likely pick up the biggest portion of them.

I think there is still a slight chance Rhodes stays in Indy. Slight because if Buffalo blows him away then he'll go there, but the market for him is thin and he cannot be considered an every down back.

Add to that the DUI and you have yourself a RB who may no longer command the BIG FA $ he was expecting.

These are JMOs no basis to it.

Alright, since everyone wants to make fun of the OP instead of actually discussing things...

I think Addai moves into the top 10, but at the low end of it. I'm not thrilled with him for some reason...and he very well could be another Barlow/McGahee/Julius Jones type.

I think you always have to watch out for that when a young player takes on a full time role. It seems that happens more often than the player actually succeeds.

If Rhodes leaves Indy then I expect Addai to become the primary RB with around 300 carries. They will have to bring in someone (FA or draft) to back him up but why would they want anothe big salary when they have their guy? Addai is a surefire first round pick next year and might even be top 7 in PPR leagues.

Again, careful with this. This happens every year with rookies from the previous year that showed flashes of good play. More bust than don't. I'd rather have Rudi Johnson than Addai every day of the week.

I'd say Addai did more than show flashes - he showed he's a complete player, and carried the load in at least a few games. For the season, without looking at the numbers, I believe he logged over 200 carries. Yes, there's some concern about how he could handle 300 carries, but that's about 5 more per game than his rookie workload. And let's face it, with the system and surrounding talent, he's certainly in a position to succeed.

Someone at the Indystar Colts forum said that "ESPN Radio" (probably the local feed - ESPN 950 in Indy) said that the Colts had some interest in Chris Brown.

McGahee had 284 carries in his first year where we all exploded on him. He only had 40 more in his second (bust) season.Jones had 197 carries in his first year when we all exploded on him. He only had 60 more in his second (bust) season. Both were considered to be complete players, and both carried the load in quite a few games the previous year. There are many, many more examples of this.I'm not saying Addai is sure to be a bust. But, I'd rather have someone more consistent and proven who's on the same level (first name that popped into my mind was Rudi).

Hard to compare the Bills and Cardinals team dynamics to the Colts though.

Cardinals? And Dallas has a very good offensive line, maybe even a better rushing O-line than Indy.

I agree here, something about him has me very wary. (said in my best Elmer Fudd voice)He has all the opportunity to be top 10 but if he wasn't in Indy I don't think we would be anywhere near this high on him. All I mean by that is I have a bad vibe. I had a JJ Arrington feel about him last year and traded out of spots where he was tempting me. I admit I was wrong but to expect him to become a stud might be a little optimistic, even with his great situation. just my opinion. One other question, would Buffalo realistically sign him while still holding Willis? I don't know why but it seems to me like they would want to unload Willis before they sign Dom. Would it be harder to move Willis after signing Dom? Or easier because one more player is off the market? Or would they consider running them both? Just a bit confused I guess.

Um, isn't that who initially drafted Thomas Jones?ETA: Julius Jones may be a decent comparison, but I believe injuries may have played a part there.

My bad. As I noted in my edit above though, Julius may be a decent comparison, but IIRC injuries were a factor there. Could be wrong though.

I can give more, I'm bored in class. :)Kevin Jones: 241 carries in rookie year, 186 the bust year.Ronnie Brown: 207/241.Problem is, there are players like Steven Jackson who actually perform, but predicting those are much harder, just because fewer of them pan out than don't.

Honestly, I forget what went wrong with JJ. I do think an injury led to Barber's success.ETA: And yes, I have the same fears about MJD.

Good points. Seems like the underlying QB situation plays a big role in the haves and have nots.

That's a good point that I hadn't thought of.

I thought the Bills (Jauron) were high on Anthony Thomas. He was brought over because he was a Jauron guy from Chicago. He performed pretty well when given the chance and people in Buffalo were actually hoping he would steal more carries from Willis. I'm not quite sure what is going on with him and his contract but I would expect him to be resigned.

As long as Peyton Manning is the QB...the RB will do just fine. The only thing standing between Addai and a top 10 season is health. He's money in the bank in the Colt offense and I would take him OVER a guy like Rudi because he will add those hidden receiving yards and be a more consistent yardage producer.

Looks like Duckett or Anthony Thomas could be inexpensive options for the Colts too. Neither of these guys look like they will get a big contract.

As an lsu homer I would be very wary of Addai, he has shown he can be a powerful all purpose back, but he has had a long history of injury and wearing down repeatedly. Next year will be the first year he has EVER carried the full load of an offense

I don't see 300 carries. 300 touches maybe. 240-260 carries and another 40-60 receptions is more likely.

He had 266 touches ahring the load with Rhodes. So you think he won't add much more than 2 touches per game? That seems conservative for someone that performed at the level he did. I can easily see him getting 21+ touches per game.

I understand the comparison but I respectfully disagree. There is no basis for comparing Addai to either of these players. Sure it can happen but there is nothing to suggest it will.Looking back, I was iffy on McGahee as no one knew for sure how he would respond from a major knee in injry he had in the bowl game. As for J. Jones, I have never been high on him. I've never felt he was an elite type player.Addai is someone I've been high on since he was drafted by Indy. Last year I said teams don't usually draft RB's in the first round to have them split carries. Many thought I was off on that assessment. Indy has a great track record for drafting good backs. They knew what they had in Rhodes and still went after Addai and that tells me they're not sold on him. If they truely wanted a RBBC they would have drafted someone later for less money. As the season wore on Addai became more of a focal point to their running game. Now it appears Rhodes may be out of Indy.Bringing in another high priced back (knowing what they have) wouldn't make much sense. Maybe that's why they're ok letting Rhodes go.So if Rhodes is gone then you have to look at Addai as a first round option in fantasy leagues. He has the potential to be a top 7 back and would be a nice option if you end up with the 7th or later pick. In many drafts he will likely go at the end of 1 and that would be a steal.

And that's fine. Like I said, I'm just wary because of the past, but I know there's exceptions. I'm much more worried about MJD, quite honestly, than Addai. But, yours is a perfectly valid opinion here. I think there's more risk than you do...but that's part of differing opinions. I just don't agree with people who dismiss it completely.

I think that 2-4 additional touches per game would be realistic. So many teams are having success with a 2 back system and Addai seems to be well suited for a 2 back system IMO.

This is an interesting point. I think many FFer's will fall prey to that and miss out on a great back Addai. If you think about it, the reason most teams have 2 back systems is becasue they don't have 1 back they can count on. Turns out Chicago isn't a RBBC afterall. And soon it will likely be that way in Indy. Jax will be so because Taylor is on his last legs much the way Dillon was this past year. So last year we had Indy, Chic and NE and now they are looking like 1 back deals.

In PPR leagues his value goes up tremendously. Did you see some of catches he made in the SB? He had 10 receptions last I checked.

I expect over 70 receptions for him next year.

over 70 might be a little bit optimistic, there were only 3 backacks who had over 70 receptions this yearSJax 90 The President 88Westbrook 77

I know. I believe that the number of receptions he had in the playoffs is a good indication on how many he'll have in the regular season this year. His 22 receptions in 4 playoff games projects to 88 in 16 games next season. But I think he'll be in the same range as Westbrook.

2 months ago, I offered the Addai owner Rudi/1.7 pick he said no. I really like Addai and think he'll have better overall numbers than all that were drafted before him. :)
