Addai's value in a PPR dynasty? (1 Viewer)

I can't quite figure out what the Colts plan at RB is for this year and the future. Last year Addai only had 3 more carries than Rhodes, had the exact same YPC, and 1 less rushing TD than Rhodes. Rhodes had more receptions and yards in the passing game, and one more receiving TD.

Is Addai's days as a feature back done? Is this RBBC? Any plans to bring back James or draft a RB Colts fans?

No one knows what the Colts are going to do at RB right now - and anyone that claims they do know is lying. It depends on who falls to them at #27 - they'll take the best (non-QB) player on their board at that spot - and it could be a number of different positions - including maybe a RB.

to me he scream the best value at RB right now.

IN the WSL's he was going in the 3rd round of a 16 teamer.

One season after a top 5 finish

If Addai is healthy he's a legit top 10 back

Eh, the Colts won't necessarily take the best (non-QB) available. I seriously doubt the Colts take a S , DE, OT, G, or TE with the pick.

Positions we might take in the 1st round

1. WR - Marvin Harrison is going to be released. If the Colts don't think Roy Hall or Pierre Garcon can be a quality #2 or #3 WR, then the Colts could draft a WR in the 1st round, especially if the class is as talented as advertised.

2. DT - The Colts DTs are seriously undersized (current starting DT Keyunta Dawson is only 254 lbs). Jim Caldwell said he wants to get bigger on the defensive line. I'm not sure the Colts will draft a DT in the 1st round, but I do think they'll draft a DT in the first three rounds. Peria Jerry is a possibility in round 1 if he falls to them. If not, then the Colts could trade down into the early part of round 2 to draft someone such as Sen'Derrick Marks, Evander Hood, or Fili Moala. The Browns and Bengals are teams that could trade up to #27 if one of the top 3 RBs is still available.

3. CB - After shelling out so much money to Kelvin Hayden, I don't the Colts will be willing to pay a 2nd CB a lot of money when Marlin Jackson hits the free agent market next season. The Colts often draft for the future and if they don't think Tim Jennings or another CB on their roster can be a quality #2 CB in 2010, then the Colts could draft someone such as D.J. Moore or Alphonso Smith at #27.

4. RB - The Colts offense could really benefit from having a 2nd RB sharing the load with Joseph Addai. The Colts could select Beanie Wells, Knowshon Moreno, or LeSean McCoy if one of them is available and they are blown away with their talent. The Colts could also select a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round or sign a free agent such as Edgerrin James, J.J. Arrington, or Dominic Rhodes to pair with Joseph Addai. It's worth noting that Bill Polian is on record saying that he would have drafted Maurice Jones Drew in round 2 in 2006 had he fallen to the Colts so the Colts aren't afraid to spend two high draft picks on running backs.

5. C -The Colts will have trouble resigning Jeff Saturday after spending so money money to keep Kelvin Hayden. However, the Colts seem to be fairly high on Jamey Richard so I would think the Colts would probably pass on Alex Mack.

Positions the Colts won't take

1. S - Both Bob Sanders and Antoine Bethea were Pro Bowlers in 2007. Melvin Bullet, meanwhile, was argueably the Colts' most pleasant surprise of 2008 and showed he could be a quality starter when Sanders was out this season.

2. DE - The Colts already have a solid three man rotation at DE in Robert Mathis, Dwight Freeney, Raheem Mathis. The Colts also drafted the speedy and seriously undersized Marcus Howard who might be able to fill Mathis's role (passing situation DE) in the future.

3. TE - The Colts resigned Dallas Clark to a long term contract last season. I doubt they put a lot of money into a 2nd TE even if Brandon Pettigrew falls to them.

4. OT - Both Ryan Diem and Tony Ugoh are solid (not great) starters and under the age of 30.

5. G - The Colts struggled with their interior linemen this past season, but that was in large part because the Colts were forced to play rookies at C and both G positions.

I think they could take an OT in round 1 if the value is there - Diem and Ugoh are at best OK, not great, and either tackle spot could use an upgrade.

colts need a DT really really bad. if value isn't there in 1st they should almost definitely take one in rd 2. they could still use DE (none of those guys can hold the line/stop the run for squat, DE is about more than just rushing the QB) but yes they need a legit RB. addai cannot be counted on at all. one who can actually get the tough yards for once.

Addai is a mid 4th round pick in a PPR dynasty startup. Of the consensus top 10 backs last year he may have fallen the farthest. Curious as to how his value would equate with a rookie pick. I'm thinking maybe 1.10.

Great post runner06

With the results garnered from Dominic Rhodes while Joseph Addai was on the pine why would Polian spend the Colts 1st or even 2nd round pick on a RB with so many other more glaring holes on the roster?

I'd say Colts go DT, CB, and WR rounds 1-3.

At a value of pick 1.10, you are basically saying Addai is worth about the same as the 4th or 5th best rookie WR.... I think the bust rate is way too high on WRs in that range to equate to a RB that has had solid success in the NFL.I don't believe in Addai's talent to say he is a stud, but he is solid. Injuries are the only thing that can hold him back from being a starting caliber fantasy RB, with RB1 upside. If I am going to equate him to a rookie pick, it would be in the 1.05-1.06 range, right after the top 3 RBs and the top 1-2 WRs. If you like his talent, I can see giving up 1.03 or 1.04 for him, though I would likely not do that.

In our PPR draft going on now, Addai was taken at the 17th RB and at 4.07. We actually pick rookie picks in this draft as well, which we will pick after the NFL draft. 1.03 and 1.04 went right behind Addai, within 1 round. 1.05 didn't go until two full rounds later. 1.10 was taken in the 8th.I like to compare values at startup dynasty drafts. So I'd put Addai's value compared to a rookie pick at 1.03-1.04...1.05 if you really want to trade him for a rookie pick.

1.04 seems about right.

With rookie picks you look for talent and opportunity. Addai has the opportunity in a great offense and his talent may not be elite but he's good enough to get the job done. As long as Manning is healthy I'd rather have Addai than 1.03 myself but I'm higher on his value moving forward than most.
