ADP Question (1 Viewer)

Trap Play

Footballguy
Hi all.

I have a question regarding ADP in keeper leagues that I think is more applicable than to just my current situation, so I thought I would post it in the Shark Pool vice the Assistant Coach Forum, but if the mods think otherwise please feel free to move it.

In a 10 team league where owners can keep up to 2 players each, for example, the first two rounds of the draft have already occurred for all intents and purposes. Should you then subtract 2 rounds from all the remaining players ADPs, or is this a fallacy?

Thanks.

Take the best player available.

The DD helps out in these situations because you can remove the keepers from the draft pool and place them on the correct team and in the true round the team kept the player.

I can understand thinking that since essentially the first 2 rounds have occurred, that you would feel the need to subtract two rounds off of you ADP on your cheat sheet and then draft accordingly, but I struggle to see the where you gain any insight or value.

Ideally you'd use a site like MFL where the keepers can be allocated to the draft picks in the first 2 rounds and marked with Keeper, so you can go back in future years and look at your draft and see who was kept and who was drafted and where. If so, then the ADP numbers match up. But if you don't do it that way, then yes, essentially subtract 2 rounds from the ADP value.

I agree with what you are saying, but think it's a bit more complex. In one of the Audibles recently, Bloom mentioned that 'keeping Ro Brown as a 5th round pick' was a good value, but I think that was in a 3-person keeper with no restrictions. In my mind, then that '5th round' value is really about an 8th round equivalent value for Ro Brown, which is exceptional. I think in the same discussion, Steve 'Smiff' could have been kept as a 2nd rounder...again, probably more like a 5th round equivalent. In my keeper league, you can keep one rookie and one vet (exchange original draft position to keep), so it's more like a 1.5 round 'shift'. ie, when I am drafting #1, I know that ADPeterson, Turner, MJD, Forte, DeAngelo, Ra Moss, Ch Johnson, S Slaton, Calvin are gone. If I shift my Avg Draft Postion 'expectations' by about 1 round, my draft plan looks more reasonable. ie, in round 1, I am targeting a #1WR right away, or could expect to get a late redraft 1st rounder. In my keeper league, I can keep Roddy White for a 5th rounder. When I look at my keeper draft board, I would expect him to go off the board late 1st maybe 2nd round, although his 'redraft' value is about 3rd round. Seems to be very good value, since I get a 1st rounder for my 5th (or, I get a 3rd rounder for sacrificing my 5th round pick, which has an equivalent value of about a 6-7th) However, the best way to do mocks is to enter Keepers in Draft Dominator, put the settings on some average ADP settings, and see how it falls out.One other thing to note in my league, is given that we give up picks to keep guys, and most of those decent players are taken by round 5/6, the ADPs 'normalize' around round 5-6. This explains why in early rounds, I was always getting sniped about a round early, and later rounds I found myself reaching for players...Anyways...hope there's something in here that helps. I am still trying to figure out this concept of 'equivalent keeper value' for picks in a Keeper leagues.
