Yeah I don't understand the problem. They've wanted this guy for what, 2+ years? I know the Yankees aren't involved so that reduces the need to pay through the nose...but Gonzalez is a better player than Teixeira, so just match that contract and be done with it.

Think they were hoping for a little discount esp in years. Feeling is theyre giving three top prospects for a guy they could get for nothing at the end of the season.
I stand corrected, but there is a 10 million buyout versus a 23 million dollar option on the age 37 season. God is that an ugly deal, Gonzalez would have an excellent shot at 8 for 200 million on the open market, especially if Pujols re ups.
Jon Heyman of SI tweeting that A-Gon will get a 7-year extension at $23 million a year added onto his remaining deal (2011 for $6 milion). Per other places, details of the extension won't be announced until after Opening Day to save on the salary tax (which apparently is based on Opening Day numbers).
That's logical thinking. So, since the Phillies offered up one of the worst contracts in the history of professional sports, somehow that can be used as a barometer?
