Adrian Peterson vs this years rookie class (1 Viewer)

I was just curious how people felt Adrian Peterson (rb OU) stacked up against this years rookie class. At this point in the season some how I find myself at 1-5 and in the running for the #1 pick next year... I traded for the #2 this year and drafted Bush. I really like Maroney and Jones-Drew (I kind of picture Peterson most like him.. Am I right??) out of this years class as well.. How does Peterson stack up against them and the other rooks from this year? At least the healthy Peterson.... I know he's hurt right now.

I would put Peterson ahead of all the backs selected this year. For this years crop I would put Maroney next and then perhaps Norwood and then Bush followed by L. White, Jones-Drew, Deangelo Williams. I know that might not make sense but Bush will not be an every down back until Duece is gone. As long as they are winning with Bush mainly getting the reception work there is no reason for them to change the strategy. Dillon doesn't have many years left in his career and is already splitting time with Maroney. Dunn the ultimate sleeper weapon probably has more left in the tank but in two years Norwood could get the bulk of the load. Norwood is a homerun threat behind that great run blocking line you just may have to wait a bit to realize this though. Jones-Drew and L. White may have starter to split time potential starting next year.

Adrian Peterson is a big 6-2, Eric Dickerson style (upright) back and needs the right offense (I-formation, double tight end, types). If he was able to join Chicago or Pittsburg, in my hunble opinion, he'd become the next great RB. If he's saddled to a more finesse offense, he won't have as much impact. I'm thinking he ends up in Green Bay, Cleveland, or Houston. None of those are great options, but if Houston could make some moves in free agency to improve their offensive line, a triplet set of Peterson, Johnson, and Carr coached by Kubiak could mean great results for Adrian Peterson.

Also, he's going to shock some people in his workouts. The dude is just in incredible shape and can go "All Day" (his nickname). He'll be a star from day one (assuming he gets into the right offense).

Houston may not get the number one pick this year they will need to underperform Cleveland and that is hard to do. I see Oakland or Cleveland getting the first pick. If Oakland lands the pick they will trade down to the highest bidder or most likely select Calvin Johnson. His best fit would be in Houston but I doubt it happens.

I'm afraid that AP will have injury problems in the NFL because of the upright position he runs and the way he throws his body out there.

I'm thinking that the injury was the best thing that could have happened in terms of his pro prospects. He'll have that much more left in the tank because he won't have the carries.

There's enough game tape available for teams to see what he can do. He just needs to perform well at the Combine. Draft wise, he'll be similar to Maroney and Williams. He'll get tons of hype early, but he'll slowly slide down from his projected spot because of questions about his injury and running style. Hopefully that means he'll end up with a playoff caliber team.

I'll go out on a thin thin limb and say he ends up with Baltimore or the NY Giants.

Unless something completely unforseen like a bad combine performance or a relapse in his health occurs, he won't fall out of the top 10. The 3 premier prospects right now are Peterson, Quinn and Calvin Johnson. Depending on who is picking at the top of the draft, those 3 guys are unlikely to even slide out of the top 5.

Thanks for all the incite all. I've seen some of the highlights but I really hadnt sat down and watched him play so I didnt know who he really was like.

Adrian Peterson is a beast. I believe he will be a better NFL RB than Reggie Bush and Bush was already hyped as a once in a lifetime player. Peterson is the only player I have ever seen that I believe could have went to the NFL straight out of high school.

Peterson is the complete package of speed, skill, and power. The only knock on him is injuries. He's been dinged up a bit throughout his college career. But he will be a top 3 draft pick next year. And if he stays healthy, he will be in the Pro Bowl within 3 years. He's an unbelievable talent.
