Adrian Peterson (1 Viewer)

Look at the holes this man has the first two years in the league. He doesn't have these this year. When he tries to bounce outside like he did in some of these runs, there's nothing on the outside, either. He also doesn't look as fast this year. Judge for yourself:

I dont know, I think its more a factor of the gameplan/playcalling and flow of individual games that is acting as a detriment. For example, a couple games this year. he has been more or less relieved by Taylor when theyre up and theyre throwing so often from within the ten....You could easily add 3-5 TDs(Then again you could say this about any NFL player so I dont know how valid that argument is)

I don't know man...something has changed. As a Viking's fan, it is tough to watch. Peterson had a crazy effect on people every time he touched the ball. He looked just a step or two away from breaking a big run every time. I just don't see it this year. Is it just me?

He has to be injured. He runs like a 30 year old LT. No burst, no vision, very few broken tackles.
I guess you missed his 1st TD this week where he threw half the team off him and drug the other half into the endzone?Bottom line the OL is not blocking very well, when the holes are there he is fine...they just arent there enough and teams are looking to stop AP first...

This last week blows my mind. AP sheds about tacklers and spins his way into the endzone in an unbelievable goalline run...and they reward him with about 3 carries the rest of the game. WTF??

I'm not sure if he is a nose tackle or a linebacker but I heard that this guy Tiger Woods has been filling quite a few holes lately.

Shocking how they have been putting up a lot of points this year but AP hasn't been getting the holes and the rock like he should be. Wonder who could be affecting his chances.

Wow.

Peterson is on pace for 1400+ yards rushing and 17 rushing touchdowns this year. Not to mention the receiving numbers.

And 4.4 ypc isn't all that bad either.

Talk about nit picking..............

He'll probably be ranked as the #2 fantasy RB going into next season...

It's the OL. Many NFL scouts (not fantasy talking heads) have said the OL is below average. McKinnie is not good and is living off a reputation. MIN needs to upgrade the OL.

Come on, man. Have you seen what he's been putting up yardage wise the past 4-5 games? The dude is tailing off big time.

You guys who think he is underperforming may want to check his short history against the Bears. Monday night may bring alot of doubters off the edge of the cliff. I am playing against him in my championship this week. I am hoping for a BIG lead going into Monday.

True, the last few games have shown horrible averages for him. His attempts haven't fallen much so that is more of a concern to me than if the Vikings were resting him more. I'm guessing this will change soon but if he continues like this he could fall behind SJax and MJD in drafts next year. (he's already behind CJ)

Come Tuesday morning this thread will be peppered with ecstatic AD owners who just won their championship because of AD.

I will be one of them x 2 :lmao:

With that said yes I have been a little concerned but will be shocked if they do not make the running game a priority this week. AD will be just fine long term also, way too much talent to be kept down.

I really hope you're right....I have to play the championship this week with no kicker....We have a limited number of moves and I only rostered one kicker and used all of my moves. Never would I ever consider the possibility that my kicker(Folk) would miss a 22 yarderto seal the game and get cut...I think I can still win though but itll be close....

Good luck, IC.

would anyone bench AP, CJ3, or MJD for Frank Gore this week in a PPR league? No, this is a not a joke...
In your 2 team league, I would not bench AP, CJ3, or MJD this week. Maybe trade Gore to the other squad for WR help.
Not that hard to get those guys is a long established league. I have a team in my 14 teamer that had AP, CJ3, MJD, and Rice before he traded away AP. He also has Wayne, Calvin Johnson, Vjax, Bowe and Brees.BTW- he didn't make the finals. Lost in Semi's by 1.5

:lmao: You can throw all the numbers around that you want, but Peterson is not looking very good lately. I'm sure a lot of his ineffectiveness is for teh same reason that Favre's been ineffective. The offensive line. Also, ADP's downturn is killing Favre and Favre's downturn is killing ADP. They are both shadows of what they were in October and November.

Its a 12 team $250 dynasty league, but thanks for answering anyway.I haven't started Gore much this year, but had to at least CONSIDER it vs Detroit. But as poorly as the playcalling and production from AP has been as of late, I just know if I bench him, he'll get 200 + 2TDs.

He may still be hurting a little bit, but I definitely think the blocking is the main problem. All he needs is a little crease like we see in the video. Some of those plays the defenders are getting shoved back or just being stood upright and Peterson's bouncing back and forth, going forward, and then breaking a big run. If he could get those openings I bet we'd still see some nice runs from him. This year two or more defenders are often getting to him before he gets to the line of scrimage.

I think Matt Birk, though on the downside of his career, is being missed. And as someone else said, McKinnie's not that good. Hopefully he gets himself in gear after his benching last week...

Partly oline, partly banged up AP. I think more of the former though. Also, partly less opportunities with Favre around. What people need to realize is even if you have a slight passing game that you use relatively infrequently, you can keep a D on its toes. Being predominantly pass-heavy doesn't totally open up the run. You can simply throw up the middle, draw, counter right, off tackle left, screen, etc. at a defense and effectively run on them. It comes down to really good play calling, really good oline, really good RB, just good enough QB. Chris Johnson has all three of those this year. In fact, CJ had a relatively "bad" game (by only his standards) last week as Vince Young pulled a Favre and was throwing TDs whenever they were in end zone range.

Unfortunately, I think your point ironically supports the "underperforming theory". In 2008 (250yds and 3 TDs) and especially in 2007 (300yds, 5 TDs) he went OFF against Chicago. But the "Short History" shows:2009 Week 12 against CHI: 25 att 85 yds (3.40); TD=1; FUMBLE=1; REC=2, 18ydsin my league that comes to a very average looking 9pts and certainly suggests a difference from his previous years. I think folks grossly underestimate the ability of an offensive line to be able to run block AND pass block. I think the emphasis this year has been on pass blocking to save Favre's butt, resulting in less scheme for the running game. What we see is Peterson's natural ability without the huge holes. The result is very good production, but not awesome, and certainly not godlike (which is what people who have him were hoping for this year).
