Adrian Wilson M.I.A. (1 Viewer)

On The Rocks

What is the word on Adrian? I had read in the preaseason that the potential changes being made to the defense alignment would have a negative effect on his tackle numbers but I had no idea they would be this bad.

I realize it hasn't been the most consistent of five game stretches, but Wilson is on pace for 80 solos (2nd highest in his career) and is in the top ten DBs in most tackle heavy leagues with his usual big play boosts. Over the past five seasons, only 29 DBs have hit the 80 solo plateau.Consistency is almost always an issue, regardless of position, on offense or defense. Wilson is no exception. He's had 11 games of three solos or less over the previous three seasons, including two during his 93 solo explosion in 2005.

Adrian Wilson is currently ranked 3rd, 4th, 4th and 5th as S in my 4 IDP leagues. Still plenty of football left too.

Thru 5 games last year vs this year...

2006 - 23 solos, 2 assists, 2 INT, 3 sacks, 4 PD

2007 - 25 solos, 9 assists, 2 INT, 0 sacks, 3 PD

Only big difference is sacks right now..

That's because my boy Dansby is getting all the tackles. :goodposting:

another 4+1 performance with 1 flag x late hit, 1 flag x pass interference (and 1 FR overturned)

i'm thinking to start Bigby next week

Well that was a fantastic jinx! I have Dansby and Wilson, and they both sucked today.
Dansby left in the 1st quarter for a left knee strain

I have both of them also....and Warner. :wall: :pickle: :pickle:

I can live with Adrian Wilson's numbers as long as he stays near the top 10, especially considering how wacky this year has been for IDPs.

I've been reading reports that Wilson pulled a hamstring in yesterdays game. Is there any truth to this? If so, does any one know how serious?

Has anyone heard any news on Adrian Wilson? Ever since Warner and Dansby got hurt it seems like all reports of Wilson have disappeared.

Rotoworld 10/18/07:

Adrian Wilson (hamstring) missed practice Wednesday, but said afterward that he expects to play in Week 7. The Cardinals' defense is already without Karlos Dansby and Aaron Francisco.

He's a game time decision today.

AZ vs. Washington probably isn't a great matchup. I picked up P. Buchanon for this week to use instead of Wilson.

I don't know...a few weeks ago this thread made me think it was ok to keep AW on my roster...but now...I am thinking he is a candidate for bust of the year in IDP considering where he was ranked overall before the season started.

It is time to start thinking about dropping him. He simply isn't producing FF numbers.

Sigmund and I were recently involved in a dynasty trade that included me swapping AW for Laron Landry:Chris Brown, LenDale White & Adrian Wilson for Kevin Kolb, Demetrius Williams & Laron LandryI agreed to that aspect of the trade with trepidation, but I'm starting to wonder whether the new defensive scheme has changed things so much that he's not going to put up his old numbers. I would point out that that defense as a whole is better, which tends to reduce a safety's tackle numbers.

I was offered Sammy Knight straight up for Wilson early this week before the injury news. Not a bad deal....

I am highly disappointed in Wilson this year (and Jason Taylor, whom I dropped) - they were my top two IDP picks - but I have been lucky with Willis, Winfield, Sims, Morrisson and the recent Harris pickup.

Against DET Wilson had better get at least 5 solos or he's gone from my team.

Same for Gaither against Washington and Clinton Portis.

I was a little more fortunate. I have A. Wilson, and was able to drop Sammy Morris, and pick up Sammy Knight.I just couldn't bring myself to drop Wilson.....although it may not be long before I do.

Change in Wilson's role could be coming

There’s a feeling in the desert that, when it comes to the safeties, maybe the Cardinals’ approach so far this season has been just a tad too safe. And that’s why team insiders believe Pro Bowl SS Adrian Wilson, whose playmaking ability hasn’t been on display as frequently as it was last season, may get more of an opportunity to blitz and move up closer to the line of scrimmage as the season progresses. The defense is in dire need of more takeaways, and Wilson is unanimously considered the unit’s most capable defender in that regard. Team sources tell us it’s a very good bet Wilson has been lobbying more than a little behind closed doors this week to play a more well-rounded role in the team’s defense moving forward. As for fellow starting S Terrence Holt, the consensus on his play is that he has been average at best. While daily team observers believe the ’07 free-agent addition is smart and does a nice job dissecting coverages, Holt has missed too many tackles and playmaking opportunities, most notably his failure to make what should have been an easy interception on a 37-yard TD catch by Buccaneers WR Joey Galloway in the Week Nine loss to Tampa Bay.

---

I apologize if i'm not supposed to cut and paste. It was a good read, and it seems silly for me to put it in my words if the message is gonna be the same.

I grudgingly trade him for Kiwanuka (who qualifies at DL in my league) and Roddy White. Only because I was able to nab Chris Harris to backup Sean Taylor and Roman Harper. It still sucked to trade him because I know he is just ready to explode.

It's cool. I think PFW can be considered in the public domain, like news and other major media. As long as you cite the source in your text or with a link, you're good. Thanks for the note.

Not even top 50 after this sorry performance today.

The Lions only had the ball for 8 minutes in the half, and only ran the ball 4 times in the half. He did not play much if at all in the second half. He didn't have many opportunities to make any plays. The low tackle numbers reflect the lack of chances rather than his play.

Wilson was playing a lot closer to the line of scrimmage than he has this season (after he told the coaches he wanted to play closer), and he blitzed at least twice, and came close to a sack. I would not cut him just yet. I think the sack numbers will go up if he plays like he did today.

I listened to most of the game on Sirius while watching (mute) the NYG vs DAL game.

I have KJones, RWilliams, and Edge in one league, and Dockett in another.

Wilson got hurt and did not return. I'm not sure of the nature of the injury.

FWIW...

(Rotoworld) Adrian Wilson apparently left Sunday's game with cramping.Impact: Wilson wore a boot on his foot as he left the locker room, but he had also been bothered by a heel injury this week. Regarding the cramp, he said, "We'll see how it is this week."

This is really getting annoying - game time decision this week again. I'm very skeptical that he will play, and even if he starts I'm keeping him benched because he's obviously not anywhere close to 100%. It's a real shame because this is another matchup that, when healthy, Wilson could put up big numbers (Bengals).

Yup, this is the last straw for me. Someone just dropped Madieu Williams for some reason, so Wilson is gone from my team and welcome Mr. Williams.

I am holding onto Wilson purley out of pride. I took him as the first DB off the board and I refuse to let my league mates see me drop him.

I have L. Landry and K. Rhodes to pick from and at this point there is few choices worth spending $5 on a waiver move on.

For the second time in two days, the Arizona Cardinals' secondary has taken a hit, with the team announcing on Wednesday morning that Pro Bowl strong safety Adrian Wilson will undergo surgery on his right heel and Achilles tendon, and will be lost for the rest of the season.

Arizona on Tuesday placed starting right cornerback Eric Green on injured reserve with a groin injury suffered in last Sunday's overtime loss to San Francisco. Although the date for Wilson's surgery has yet to be finalized, he will be placed on injured reserve.

Wilson, 26, missed the past two games because of the heel and Achilles injury. He noted earlier this week that, while his condition was gradually improving, he still didn't feel confident enough in his recovery to push off hard on the foot.

The seven-year veteran traveled to South Florida on Monday to have a second opinion, and orthopedic specialist Dr. John Uribe recommended the surgery. Wilson should be fully recovered in time for the team's offseason program next spring.

Oliver Celestin, who has started the past two games in Wilson's absence, will remain in the lineup. Matt Ware will likely also get some time at strong safety. The normal backup at the strong safety position, Aaron Francisco, has been sidelined recently by a calf injury. Arizona coaches are hopeful that Francisco can return soon.

The loss of Wilson is a devastating one because his versatility allows Cardinals defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast to design creative schemes around his rare combination of skills. The former North Carolina State standout, a third-round choice of the Cardinals in the 2001 draft, is one of the NFL's best blitzers from the safety position, but also possesses good ball skills as a cover defender.

Wilson is also one of the hardest hitting safeties in the league.

In nine games this year, Wilson had 44 tackles, two interceptions and two passes defensed. For his career, he has 544 tackles, 16 interceptions, 53 passes defensed, 16 sacks, and 10 forced fumbles.
